Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Blue Ox Adjustable drop height receiver. And this is gonna be a great option for any of you that are flat towing your vehicle with a two and a half inch hitch on your RV and you need to get a little bit of adjustment to get your tow bar up in line and nice and level with your vehicle. Now this is gonna allow you to have not only an eight inch rise like we have here, but also an eight inch drop and pretty well everything in between. Each pin is gonna be an inch adjustment as you drop down so you can really fine tune it exactly where you want it to go. And being a two and a half inch means that it's gonna be pretty heavy duty at coming in with a weight capacity of 15,000 pounds. So on our Jeep Grand Cherokee that we have today that should be more than enough.
Now it is steel construction, so it is pretty heavy duty and it does come with a pin and clip, which is really nice. But do remember, since you're gonna be putting it into your hitch and still attaching to your tow bar, you do probably need to pick up an extra pin and clip if you don't have one. To adjust height is super easy, obviously you determine if you need a rise or a drop and put this in the proper orientation for that. And then with each adjustment, you just take your linchpin, slide these out and these are included. And as you move the pins, as I mentioned earlier, each one is gonna be an inch adjustment.
So if you have a vehicle that's maxed out like we have today, this is gonna work for that eight inches. But also, if you ever change vehicles, you can always adjust this and this is gonna work well with that. Once you're happy with your adjustment, you just put your pins back in place, snap your linchpins back in and then you're ready to go. Now you might see that there's a small grub screw here and also included is an allen wrench. And as you tighten this down, that's gonna go against the side here.
Reducing rattling, not that there's a whole lot here but to take some of that clanging around out is really nice. And then just an added feature that they didn't have to do but it does make for a little bit quieter towing experience. Now a few things that I'll point out that this is obviously for a two and a half inch hitch, but also so is the receiver. So make sure your tow bar is applicable to that two and a half inch. And something else is, this is extending where the tow bar is gonna be mounted.
It's gonna push it further back. So sometimes your safety cables might get a little bit short or your umbilical so that might be something you'll have to look at to make sure that yours works. And you can actually pick up safety cable extensions to allow for that extra space that you're adding. Now this is a perfect solution to a problem that we had, when hooking up your flat tow vehicle. You obviously want your tow bar within the three inch window of being level and as close to level as possible. And we had a hitch height of 18 inches and our vehicle was at 25. So having seven inches, that means the tow bar's gonna be at this point that it's not gonna be really safe, not only for towing but also the braking of the vehicle against it. It's gonna put force that you're not really gonna want on your tow bar as well as all of your components. So getting this nice and level with this maxed out worked out perfectly. And now we have a great setup that's gonna be safe for towing. And that was a look at the Blue Ox two and a half inch adjustable hitch receiver with an eight inch rise or drop.
