Determining Which Gen-Y 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Adapter For Trailer W/ 20k GVWR and 3400lb Pin Weight

Question:

My 5th wheel specs are: dry weight 15.5K, GVWR 20K, Pin weight 3.4K. Does the 21K Gen Y have adequate pin weight for my application or should I go with the 25K Gen Y which shows a much higher pin weight? Im thinking for the down pressure indicator to function appropriately the correct pin box ion is also a concern.

It really comes down to the which model pin box is currently on your trailer.

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1621/1621 HD - Auto Latch - 25K # GY66FR you were looking at is for a Lippert 1621/1621HD pin box where the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box - Lippert 1116/1716 - Manual Latch - 21K # GY43FR is only for the Lippert 1116/1716 pin boxes.

The # GY43FR has a 3500lb pin weight rating so it will work just fine with your 3400lb pin weight.

To determine which pin box you have you will need to look for the sticker on your pin box that has the model number. If that sticker is missing just send me a picture of the serial number and brand of your pin box and I would be happy to identify it for you.

I included videos for both of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
