Video Transcript for Review of Superwinch Electric Winch - Portable Winch - SW1140232

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Winch2Go, the portable winch by Superwinch. This is going to be a nice and lightweight, compact, portable winch so that you can easily take it along with you, move it to different locations, whether you want to use it for a one trailer and then move it to another trailer, or you want to take it out, just in case you need to get your vehicle pulled out of a ditch or something like that. It is going to be really nice, very convenient to keep with you and take along so that you have it when you need it. This can also be mounted permanently in your trailer or something like that.If you know you're going to be using it there the most frequently, it does have this metal plate here that you can bolt it down to a surface to make sure that it's always going to be there, but it is still going to be compact, nice and organized.

Everything that you see here that comes with it is going to fit inside this toolbox style case, so everything's going to be there when you need it.Let's go over a few of the specifics here. If we open up the box on the inside, we're going to have our 4,000-pound capacity winch. This is on that same mounting plate that you saw on the bottom, so it's going to be nice and secure. It's going to be able to pull in 4,000 pounds. They've got a 1.4 horsepower motor with a gear ratio of 166 to one, so it's going to be plenty powerful to pull in that 4,000 pounds.

We are going to have 50 feet of this 3/16 inch synthetic rope. It's going to be nice and strong, give us plenty of room there to reach out to whatever we're pulling in. We also have this free-spooling clutch here. So if we turn this yellow dial, that's going to release the clutch so we can pull out the rope very quickly to whatever winch that we need. And then, we can just re-engage it so that the winch will pull it in.

I would not going to have to wait to slowly spool it out with the remote and just easily release the clutch and pull it out as much as we need.On the backside, here we are going to have built-in disconnects. So this bottom one here, this is going to be for our power cords. These are 10-foot six gauge quick connect battery cables, leads that will allow you to easily connect to your positive and negative posts on your battery with these alligator clips here. 10 feet should give you plenty of reach to get to your battery. And then, they'll just easily plug in with that plug down there on that receiver.

Then, the one right above that is for our remote. We have a 10-foot remote that's going to let us pull the winch in and let it out if we need to. But, it's going to give us plenty of distance here, 10 feet, so we can be away from the direct line pole. If something we're to snap or spring back at us, we can be away from the winch, so little protection there. We're also going to get these two six-foot straps so that we can keep our winch secured to our trailer or post or wherever we have it hooked up, a tree if we're off road, something like that. And then, we can use the other one to wrap around whatever we're winching. So if we want to wrap it around our frame on our vehicle or whatever the case may be, these do have a weight capacity of 4,000 pounds each so they will hold up well. We're also going to get three of these metal shackles that will allow us to connect again our winch to a stable platform to give it a nice sturdy base or to whatever we are winching. So, everything that we're going to need is included minus the battery. You will have to provide that on your own. Little quick connect hook here, easy to get connected to whatever the strap or whatever else we're trying to winch. And then, a hand saver here so that we can easily pull that out.We are also going to get one pair of gloves. So if we're needing to get down or prevent our hands from getting dirty, or just tuck them a little bit, we have those there. We're also going to get this pulley block hook so we can connect this to another platform and pass our rope through there. That's going to give us two points of attachment, which will double the weight capacity up to 8,000 pounds, so give us a little extra weight capacity there if we're able to do that in our set up wherever you may be. This does come with a three-year limited warranty for electrical components and a lifetime warranty on mechanical components.Overall, I think this is just going to be a really neat option for you if you're wanting a portable winch so that you can just take it, throw it in the back of your truck. So, you have a backup if you we're ever to go off road, need help getting back on or to pull another vehicle up from the ditch, something like that. Or, if you know that you use multiple trailers rather than having it bolted down to one trailer, having to undo all those bolts, you can just throw this in the trailer and then switch it back and forth. So, I really liked the portability of this. There is another option that is the exact same thing, but in rather than having this synthetic rope, it's got a wire rope. They both have the same weight capacity, so up to you if you have a preference of one or the other. But, I think it's going to do a good job for you, giving you that portable winching option. That's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

Used this to winch a vehicle onto a car hauler. The winch pulled the vehicle up with zero problems. I like the fact that this winch is portable. Powered winch off of a deep cycle battery. Winch did not drain battery. Powerful, compact winch. Plenty of accessories included.

by:

Great portability, but I’m going to mount it in my enclosed car transporter. It’ll be used for pull the car in with dead batteries or low tires. Nice!

Really great piece of equipment. I mounted min inside my enclosed car trailer. Perfect size!

by:

Great tool, saved my butt more than once

by:

Exactly the correct size for loading my Lotus Evora onto my Featherlight trailer. I like that there is storage for accessories. I’d buy it again.

by:

Set it up to practice and all seems as advertised. Power and connections are sound. Plastic handle and closure clasps are suspect but no issue yet. It’s nice that everything you need is there. Maybe add a couple soft shackles and tree saver.

by:

Love it. It works very well and as always etrailer delivered it with in days of the order. Thanks. The case clasps could be a little more durable as they are a plastic. But still like the portability of this winch.

by:

From the order to the shipping went like clockwork, wish i could give 6 stars

Everything was as anticipated. Delivery was on time. Great product.

I purchased this winch after a friend loaned me his. I had to winch my 6k lb boat on the trailer when the eye hook broke. I had to strap the stern of the boat and winch the boat from the water. It saved the day and bought myself one right away for any emergency.

by:

This is an awesome winch. I use it to haul antique railroad motorcars in and out of an enclosed trailer with ease. This winch is great because it is essentially portable. I hook a short chain to the rear clevis hooks to a bracket in my trailer and pull the machine up the ramps. The power is provided by a battery jump pack by clipping the battery leads to the jump pack leads for now and it works great with no permanent wiring. I also have an open trailer and use it with that trailer as well for pulling tractors and cars onto the trailer as well.
In a few seconds I can close up the power cables and the remote cable, close the box, disconnect the winch from the trailer and move it to another trailer or put it away. However, it easily can stay home in the trailer since it is so compact and easy to store out of the way.
The only complaint is probably the same with most winches, you must guide the cable onto the reel so it does not bind up on one side and pinch the cable. If you remember to guide the cable, it works awesome and is a very good product. You can also freespool the cable out to hook it onto whatever you are pulling which makes the job faster. The speed it operates is safe and seems like just a few seconds and the job is done.
Great product and great service with Etrailer.

by:

Works great when it works. Have it in a 24 ft enclosed trailer and most of the time it takes wiggling all the connections around to find just the right fit for it to work. 25% of the time I can’t get it to work at all and have to find help to push a car up. Will be trying to sell it soon and put a permanent one in.

by:

I bought this because so I could get my I s x 800 Farris zero turn on to my trailer. I weights around 1100 lbs. i do not think 3 men could push this mower up the incline. I have tested this out , no problem. I hope it never brakes down but now I have something to handle it.

by:

great item, only issue is plastic clips for toolbox-scared i'm going to break one. But good so far

by:

Out of the box it comes with a lot of handy items. I’m most impressed with the plug and play end of the dc cable to the winch, and large alligator clips for positive and negative. I’m hoping it performs as well as it looks.

by:

Looks like a great product and nicely p ackaged.

by:

Tried pulling a car in the garage yesterday just to see if it would work and no problem! Very cool item :)

  • How to Use the Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000SR Part # SW1140232
Yes, the Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000SR part # SW1140232 will hold while you are making the steering adjustments on the vehicle. It has a 4,000 lb line pull capacity but please keep in mind that the vehicle, assuming the wheels turn freely is considered a rolling load so the actual line pull strength needed to move the vehicle will be far less than the actual weight of the vehicle. For example, if the vehicle weighs 4,000 lbs then it could very well only take 2,500 lb of line pull to move...

  • Winch Trailer Wiring Kit for Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000SR
To provide a permanent connection to your vehicle's battery for the Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000SR # SW1140232, you can use the Winch Trailer Wiring Kit # BDW20307. This kit includes the 6-10 AWG connector needed to be installed on the winch wiring harness in place of the alligator clips. This kit comes with enough wire to reach the back of the vehicle. You can also use this kit for the front of your vehicle, but there will be excess wire. I have attached the installation instructions...

  • Does Superwinch Winch 2 Go Have Braking System
The Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000 SR, part # SW1140232 does have a brake but is not designed to hold a load, such as a suspended item in the air. The hand held rocker switch controls the in and out feed of the load you are using with the winch and when released will pause the in or out function.

It sounds to me like you have the Trailer and Vehicle Electric Winch Wiring Kit part # BDW20207 already installed on your Chevrolet Tahoe that is currently ran to a Superwinch S4000. If you are looking to attach the Superwinch Winch 2 Go 4000 SR part # SW1140232 to this wiring harness kit, you can either use the pigtail the runs to the Superwinch S4000 or you can simply cut the clamps off the Winch 2 Go and attach a new set of quick connectors like the Superwinch Quick Connects part # BDW20047...

  • Does Using Winch Snatch Block Affect Winch Cable Capacity
This is a really good question but the answer is that if you were to use a snatch block with the Superwinch Winch 2 Go part # SW1140232 to double it's capacity you would not have to worry about the cable. The cable would also have it's capacity doubled as well.

  • Can the Superwinch Winch 2 Go Portable Be Mounted to a Hitch Receiver
I do have an option for you but there isn't any receiver mount options for the Superwinch Winch 2 Go Portable part # SW1140232 since it's designed to be portable and it's a little underrated for full-size trucks. Instead, I recommend the Superwinch S5500 Trailer Winch part # SW1455201 which can be receiver mounted using a winch plate like the Curt Trailer Hitch Electric Winch Mount Plate part # C31010 and it has a higher capacity.
