2007 Mazda 5 - T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector

  • 4 Flat
  • Trailer Hitch Wiring

Quickly and easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Mazda 5 with this custom wiring harness. T-One connector plugs directly into existing wiring. Powered ModuLite reduces strain on wiring system.

  • Connects quickly and easily
    • Locate connection points in trunk
    • Plug in T-connector

    • Powered module connects directly to battery to avoid overloading vehicle's electrical system
  • Constructed of 16-gauge bonded wire
  • Comes with dust cap for 4-way flat connector

Specs:

  • Maximum amperage:
    • Stop/turn lights: 2.1 amps per circuit
    • Tail lights: 5.6 amps per circuit
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located inside your trunk, behind the tail lights on both the driver's side and passenger's side. You will need to remove some interior trim or carpeting to access the harness. Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed within your trunk or rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

the custom wiring harness for Mazda 5 that I purchased from etrailer.com was a well thought out component which made it easier to install and very dependable. Compared to the standard types, which I have used before, no damage whatsoever is done to the original wiring and OEM connectors are only used. I only had one problem with providing a 12 volt connection in which the instructions required to find a way to get heavy gauge flexible cable from the rear of the minivan to the firewall and into the engine compartment. I could not find existing holes so what I did was modified this part to run cable to fuse box on passenger side and purchase a Twin fuse holder from from Bussmann at an auto parts store for a few dollars and hooked it up to accessories fuse in parallel. Everything worked the first time!

by:

This kit made wiring my Mazda5 a breeze. The equipment is of good quality, the instructions (on paper and online YouTube video) are clear and concise. Everything worked as described. The 4-pole trailer harness tucks nicely in the side storage compartment of my car when not in use (see photo). Excellent!

Wow!!!! I must say the product was excellent and the service was even better. I installed the hitch and did the wiring myself, thanks to all the instructions including videos that were available on the website. Thanks etrailer y'all are awesome!

Easy to install and works flawlessly!

2012 Mazda CX-9

I received the product undamaged or missing parts. I watched the video online which gave a good overview of the installation. It took a little longer than I thought but it wasn't out an outrageous amount of time (if had did another, I'm sure it would go much faster).
Haven't tried it on a trailer. I did a meter test on the plug and it appears to working. I will be road testing it this weekend.
Only wish the wire length between the tail light connectors was longer. I added some wire so I could run the wires along the harness in the back of the CX9.
Great product, everything you need for the install is there.

The product fit my SUV perfectly. The wiring harness and connectors fit those existing in my SUV.I only use the hitch every now and then, but when I do need to tow a trailer the lighting system works great.

by:

I had my mechanic install the hitch aand wiring and they did so without issue. A year later and everything still works great.

2012 Mazda CX-9

Great product - gets power to the trailer lights and looks like professional install.
Straight-forward instructions, and the YouTube video makes it particularly easy to follow. Most cumbersome part of the install is feeding the wire to the battery. Couple barriers not mentioned in the instructions/video: 1) subwoofer speaker in trunk floor had to be removed to access driver's side panel, and 2) underbody guard had to be removed to feed wire to front.
All in all, very happy with the product - glad I chose to install it myself with this kit.

Great product; great service!! Installed the hitch the morning after it arrived. It was every bit as easy to mount as stated in your website. Two days later I installed the trailer wiring harness; while a bit more time consuming the instructions provided are clear and consice.

Thanks

Installed this product on a 2012 Mazda CX-9. Still not sure about this one. There appears to be a connector that is set up for the trailer in the back of the vehicle, but I installed this anyway. It was a lot of work, but the video on etrailer made it easier. Also, there is already a power outlet (cigarette lighter) in the back, not sure why we have to run it all the way to the battery. Oh well, its done now.

HI Mark:You stated that seemingly there is a connector that is set up for the trailer in the back of the vehicle.Do you know what it looks like? Thanks in advance!Cheers, Jim Liotta

Vehicle manufacturers can put 12V power sources at the rear of the vehicle for running a radio or light or small compressor. The harness manufacturers typically don't tap into these sources if they are not on a high enough amperage circuit to support both the trailer lights and the 12V outlet inside the vehicle. They avoid overloading factory circuits that could result in a blown fuse or damaged electrical components. I'll notify Mark that you had a question about his review and he can add whatever input he might have.

2009 Mazda CX-9

wire harness for passenger turn signal was very tight needs to be 2-3 inches longer. Driver side was also tight should be made longer as well. The short wires did not allow me to properly place the modual so the adhesive could be properly adhered. It looked to me the adhesive is on the wrong side, if I flip it over the wires would be even more taunt. After going through the trouble of installing this system I was informed of the plug already installed by Mazda all I needed was a short pig tail with the proper plug. No fishing wires!

Jim L.

10/17/2012

HI Mike:I just read that you installed the trailer wiring from eTrailer for a CX-9 possibly CX-7 but later on you discovered that all you needed was a short pig tail with the proper plug. Do you know if all CX-9s have this feature and dont need the kit installed? How do I check to see if I dont need to be fishing wires? And, where do I access the electrical point to install the wires of the pig tail? Thanks in advance for your help!Cheers,Jim Liotta

Jim, Sometimes there other connectors available for trailer wiring. Sometimes they use proprietary connectors that are only available through Mazda or could even require a computer re-flash to activate. TowReady and Curt build the easiest possible system they can, but sometimes there are restrictions that prevent them from using the dedicated ports. I'll notify Mike that you had a question on his review so he can respond if he has more info.

This product works as advertised. Running a power wire under the vehicle was a pain just using a couple car ramps in the driveway, and the utility trailer I connected needed some work, but now it’s all working great.

Yes, the wiring harness fit good for my Mazda 5's hitch. I had it professionally installed, at Rain-X in Killeen, Tx. I haven't had any problems with it & it's still secure.

by:

First. Everything was in the trailer hitch package that you need. It only took about 1/2hr to install.
2nd. The wiring harness was a little more difficult, because I had to remove the side back panels. The plugs were exactly what was advertise everything fit perfectly. I would recommend this product to anyone. By the way it took about 2hrs to install the wiring. Not hard but teadious. Anyone can do it.

Every thing worked perfectly

2013 Mazda5

When they say the kit is complete, they mean it. This outstanding wiring harness made the job easy. The worst part of it was removing the interior panels to get at the tail light wiring. I luckily found a video on YouTube of a guy who did the job before and gave a great narration with the 10-minute long video that gave me the courage to tug hard on the panels to separate the snap connectors. Once I got access to the wiring, the job was simple. The wiring was all cut to length and had factory-grade plug-in connectors that mated with the existing wiring. The instructions that came with the kit were adequate. But I suggest a search for video if you've never taken your interior apart before. One challenge was running a hot wire all the way from the driver-side taillight, to the battery, to power the unit. It's your choice to run it inside the car or under the chassis. I went with the interior. The wiring job took about 2 hours and the finished job looks like a pro did it...and I'm no pro. Highly recommend this kit.

Mazda CX-9

I had two separate orders with eTrailer; 1) tow hitch for a Mazda CX-9, and 2) the trailer wiring package for the same vehicle. The orders were several weeks apart becasue I thought I could find a better price on the wiring kit, which I could not. The service was excellent and I somebody even talked to me on the phone while I was installing the wiring kit. Everything was incredibly easy to install, but I think the wiring kit installation might not be for everybody.

2006 Mazda5

I ordered a hidden hitch trailer hitch receiver and the wiring kit for the trailer lights for my Mazda 5 and was amazed at how easy they were to install. The videos that etrailer.com provides are invaluable and watching them answered all my questions. I will highly recommend etrailer.com to anybody who looking for anything trailer related.

by:
Mazda5

Overall a good product. The video instructions on etrailer are much better than those included in the kit. Generic for a range of Mazda vehicles. For the Mazda 5 and/or if you have a 12v outlet in the rear area, you can splice into it instead having to run a wire all the way up to the battery, and you can run the trailer pig-tail out one of the spare-wheel well drain plugs by cutting a slot in it and then resealing it. Makes for a completely hidden installation.

by:

Works great ! I wasn't fond of running a power wire all the way to the battery from the back of the car but in the end, I got it done. This install was easier to do on a car hoist. I couldn't imagine trying to install the power line by use of an automotive creeper and squeezing under the car. Thanks for all the videos on the install. Saved me a lot of time and effort.

by:
2015 Mazda5

This product was used for a 2010 Mazda5. The leads for the right tail light connection were a bout 18 inches too short. I had to splice in an extension to connect it to the right assembly. The connectors for the Mazda tail light harness were correct and everything else was OK. The barrel connectors to splice the wires required a crimping tool - not something I have had since the days I was worked as an electronics technician. The instructions for routing the 12VDC lead to the battery were a bit sparse. I did locate a drain grommet in the bottom of the spare tire well that can be used to wire under the body. Over all took about three hours, including the extensions of the right side wires (and finding hook up wire for the job). The quality looked OK. I'll use it to connect to a small trailer for general use.

by:

The direct fit wire harness is GREAT. fast installation and is pretty much hidden. I have the trailer wires tucked in the side along with the jack so you don't even know its there until you need to use it. Highly recommended over universal fit, will save you a lot of time and headache. Comes with instruction but Etrailer has a video on the website that makes it that much easier.

2012 Mazda CX-9

For a 2012 Mazda CX-9, I bought the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" - 75531 and the wiring harness T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - 118520

These items were exactly as advertised. Everything lined up and bolted in perfectly, and it was shipped very fast and FREE. I read someone having to remove the heat shield from the muffler, but I did not have to. Just rotate the aft part of the receiver hitch down toward the ground and fish the mount ends up vertically behind both heat shields, rotating as you go and it slips right in above both heat shields with plenty of clearance. In addition to removing the spare tire (as described), I also had to remove the spare tire cable assembly to give enough clearance for the torque wrench on the passenger side, but it was easy to remove and reinstall. With a box end wrench, you would not need to remove it, but my torque wrench is for use with a socket and I needed the extra clearance. The whole thing only took about a half hour to install. I connected the wiring kit to both light socket connectors, but still have to wire the ground and positive leads. The wires are plenty long, unlike other reports I read. Not a lot of extra length, but enough to reach both light sockets with slack to tuck it away and secure it under the molding. Clean and easy install.

by:
2012 Mazda5

I didnt want to buy this harness as I didn't want to run a wire all the way to the battery. Well...I did. It works great. All the connections fit well. I fished the power wire through an existing hole below the spare tire. It took me 2 hours to lay under my Mazda5 and tie-wrap it up to the battery. If I would have been able to lift the car like at a shop I would have done it in 10 minutes. Anyway, glad I went with this unit. Lights are nice and bright on the trailer.

by:
2015 Mazda CX-9

Trim removal and T- connector installation was a snap, only took 15 minutes. There are several you tube videos to help through this part. Running the power wire up to the battery takes a little more creativity. Once I mapped out a good route the connection was easy. Had the entire thing installed in under 2 hours

Works good. I ran the wires inside the car. Took some time but it was a clean install. This was on a 2012 Mazda CX9.
