Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1998 Toyota Sienna

Today we are going to install part number 43475 from Hoppy. This is their wiring kit and we are going to install on a 1998 Toyota Sienna mini van. The wiring plugs for this T connector are going to be located behind the plastic here. You can either: a, access them behind the tail light or take off the tail light and get to them that way and run them straight down. Or, in this case, we are going to go behind the plastic and install everything on the inside. First off, we are going to go ahead and take off the thresh hold right here so we can take out the side panels. Alright, undo a couple of screws for the panels. Take off this panel here and there is an additional screw back here you can loosen the panel, the whole rear interior quarter panel with.

Alright, this is the gray connection right here. This is the one we want to take apart and the T part into it. It is real tight working, so you push down the tab here. I think you can pull off the bottom. We are working on the passenger side. We will install the green wire to there and then do the same thing back up in here. And then we can reassemble our panel at this point. We will repeat for the same thing on our drivers side here. We have to take out the jack assembly to pull this whole panel off because this interior part is connected to the plastic here. Again, the same thing applies to the other side. Just push in that little tab and it should pop apart. We will hide our box back behind the plastic and leave this little plastic end, the port for the 4-pole, we will leave that hanging out. We will go ahead an put our panel back together. And we can just reassemble everything inside this panel here.

Next what we are going to do is hide our green wire next to the harness underneath the carpet here and we are just going to pull these little tabs out, just tuck it behind it. Now what we are going to do is bond up our white wire here and our green wire to take up the slack. Now we will install our ground. And we will use the overlapping pieces of steel here. That way, you will have more steel to go through and more for the screw to adhere to. And our little converter box here, we can just tuck back up inside of here. And then, we will leave our 4-pole end port, we will leave that hanging out below the thresh hold. Now at this point here, you can simply just fold this underneath the plastic here and come up inside the jacks storage compartment. And then we can go ahead and plug our 4-pole into the port. And when you are ready to use it, you can simply pull it out, a little bit of it. Go ahead and put the door back on. And you have the excess hanging out and it will come down right down to your hitch. And there you have it for part number 43475 from Hoppy for a 4-pole T end wiring harness.

Does the trick in the Sienna (after the new kid at the local U-Haul shop installed the hardware for a hitch just fine, then drilled RIGHT THROUGH several wires in the bundle in the rear threshold for their adapter! [GRRRR!]) I was able to repair/splice that, and got yours. Makes for a nice clean, plug-n-play installation!
We can take the utility trailer for a load of compost or DG and be street-legal.
Instructions and testing ideas made the whole process do-able, THANX!
Now off to see about other RV/Camper things we'll need later...

I ordered and installed the wiring harness as well as the trailer hitch for my 2003 Toyota Sienna. I am not a mechanic and usually do not do my own work.
I am very pleased to say that the instillation went without a hitch (pun intended). I definitely recommend these products and etrailer.

Perfectly, that is an easy install.

Went together easily and quickly. Less tha an hour total. Would have been faster had not two of the Toyota bolts had not been crossthreaded.

Only shortage, a mounting bracket as a premanent install.

Written instructions don't help much, WATCH THE VIDEO! Watched it once, then took about 15 minutes to hook up harness and reinstall panels. Hooked up friends trailer with "wiring issues" and everything worked first try!

  • Replacement Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Toyota Sienna with Original Harness Not Working
You are correct, if you have power going into the converter box and not coming out of the converter box you, for any one of the trailer lighting functions, will need to replace the converter. Although the converter does not look the same it preforms the same function, combining the separate brake light signal and turn signals on your vehicle on to the same wires going to the trailer lights. The Hopkins Custom Fit Wiring Harness, item # 43475, will install inline with the connectors going...

  • Is Drilling Required to Install Draw-Tite Class III Hitch, Part # 75120 on 2000 Toyota Sienna
Installing the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 75120 would require drilling. I attached the installation instructions for you to check out. We also carry the wiring harness for the Sienna to provide a connection for trailer lighting. The Hopkins Wiring Harness, part # 43475 is specifically designed for your Sienna. Installation is simple, with no cutting or splicing required.

  • Hopkins Wiring Harness # 43475 and 5-Way Adapter Recommendation 2000 Toyota Sienna
Yes, there is a way to get a 5-way at the back of your 2000 Toyota Sienna, but you would first need to install the Plug-N-Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 43475, that you referenced. I attached installation instructions for this product below. The next thing you would need is a Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, part # 47515. This will give you a 5-way at the rear of your vehicle and would also give you the option to decide what you want the fifth pole to be. Some people...

  • What is the Right Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Toyota Sienna
For a 2000 Toyota Sienna the correct trailer wiring harness is # 43475. This harness plugs in line with the tail light wiring so you will not need to splice into the vehicle wiring. I have included instructions and video links that explain a typical installation for you.

  • 4-Way Trailer Connector Mounting Bracket Recommendation for a 200 Toyota Sienna
The 4 pole trailer connector will be able to be mounted under the Toyota Sienna by the hitch. From the way the instructions seem to explain it, the 4-Way will be on the outside underneath the vehicle and not hanging through the rear cargo doors. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. For a bracket, you can use a combination of # 18144 and # 18140. If you determine that the 4-Way would have to be pulled through the rear hatch, you can follow these alternative...

  • Left Turn Signal Makes Right Trailer Signal Blink With Hopkins Wiring Harness,1998 Toyota Sienna
I suppose it is possible that something, somewhere was not installed correctly when you installed the Plug-N-Tow Wiring harness, # 43475, into your 1998 Toyota Sienna. There is an easy way to determine if you have the sides switched. The wires with yellow, red, and brown plug into the driver side taillight wiring. The Connector with the green wire plugs into the passenger side taillight wiring. make sure that the white ground wire is attached to a bare metal surface. Looking at the picture...

  • 2000 Toyota Sienna Wiring Harness Installation Quest
We have videos that will show you how to install your hardwire kit, however I would recommend getting the Plug-N-Tow, simply for the fact that you will not have to splice and test wires. Just plug it in and you are set. Depending on where you are located, we can have the wiring harness to you in a few days. I have included a link below to the Plug-N-Tow custom-fit wiring harness for your vehicle. If you would rather hardwire the harness you have, the video I am recommending shows an installation...

  • How to Remove Rear Threshold to Install Trailer Wiring on a 1999 Toyota Sienna
To install the Curt Wiring Harness part # C55418 you will need to remove the rear tailgate threshold. Basically you will just pull straight up on it and it will come out. To see how a very similar wiring harness would install on a very similar Sienna as your 1999 model check out the video I attached. It shows how the threshold is removed as well as the rest of the install process.

  • Is it Required to Use all 6 Bolts to Install the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75120
It sounds like you have the Draw Tite Hitch part # 75120 for your 2003 Toyota Sienna. I can only recommend that you install this hitch per the manufacturer recommendations by using all 6 of the installation points. Otherwise the warranty would be voided. If you need trailer wiring you would want the Hopkins Harness part # 43475. For a ball mount, hitch ball, and pin and clip, I would recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit, part # EBMK4. This is a kit which includes 2 ball mounts, a 1-7/8...

In order to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch, # 75120, you would need to drill 2 holes, 1 on each frame rail. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view. Drilling the holes will not be that difficult. You will attach the hitch to the 4 (2 on each side) holes that are already there. Then you will use the hitch as a template and drill the holes for the remaining two attachment points. Using a special high quality drill bit like the 1/2 inch rotabroach bit...

You are correct, the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75120 will work for your 2002 Toyota Sienna and unfortunately some drilling is required. The upside to installing a trailer hitch on your vehicle is that it is only a one time thing. Once you have the hitch installed, your Thule Apex 5 bike rack will work well. Another advantage to installing a trailer hitch on your vehicle is having the ability to tow a trailer if the occasion arose. I have listed a few more items that you will need to complete...
