Video Transcript for Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at Etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Hopkins Endurance Quick Seven-Way Connector. So right off the bat I wanna mention this isn't going to be a connector just for motor homes. All right That's just what we have here today and that's what we're showing it off on. But primarily, this is going to be a direct replacement or be able to utilize the factory tow package on a lot of passenger vehicles. Primarily Mopar, so your Chryslers, Jeeps, Dodges things of that nature, amongst some others too.

But what this is gonna do is plug into your factory tow uh plug there. So if your vehicle has a factory tow plug that looks like that, kind of a squared off one, this is going a plug into that. And then essentially this is almost a little adapter it's gonna have a round seven way connector. This is kind of the universal one and allow you to plug in to the seven way connector. So being that these primarily fit, a lot of some vehicles that are shown a little age now I feel like most people use this as a replacement.

That's what we did here today. Um and what that's gonna allow you to do is is get your functionality back from your seven way. So here's a good example on how we used ours today. So we had the original this is a Chrysler type connector plug. Alright And what was happening is we're setting up a flat tow so we have a vehicle we're pulling behind us but this would essentially hold true for, you know your regular trailers and things like that.

We would plug into here and our signals would be intermittent, you know the blinkers would come and go, the lights would flicker and things of that nature. So these terminals are just loose and worn out just wasn't making a good connection. And that happens over time, you know, it's from years of using it and that's why we opted for for one like this and, you know, to have everything tight again and good connections. I do like the fact that they give you this adapter plug which lets you plug into that factory port there but then turns into a regular circle shape one, This is much more universal, you know So in the future, if you hold onto your vehicle for a long time, if this ends up getting damaged or or worn out too over the years, you don't have to find another special type connector. You know you can just grab another universal type, a seven way, and that'll plug right into the harness here.

So if you're unsure, you can always check our fit guide and that should give you some direction if it'll work with your vehicle or not. As far as the quality construction, I mean it feels good, you know, it's a, it's a it's a trailer connector, it's thick plastic, you know, the lid is spring loaded so it stays closed when you're not using it. There's a good catch there where you can get your your finger on and a little catch on the bottom. So when, when you plug your connector in, it grabs it and prevents it from accidentally getting pulled out. Little seal on the bottom too to keep dirt and junk out and moisture. And they give you a tube, a little sleeve of terminal grease as well. So you can put it on the terminals to help prevent corrosion, which is, it's a nice touch 'cause usually corrosion's the number one killer of these things. You know, you get some moisture in there and it just chews away at 'em and, and you get a bad connection. So put that on all your connection points there and it should help prolong the life of it for sure. They give you the hardware that you'll need as well to mount it up, which is, which is cool something you don't see all the time by any means. So it kind of just saves you, saves you a little bit of hassle when you go to bolt everything out. Other than that, at the end of the day if you're looking to, you know replace your old worn out one, it's a good option for you. If you're looking to add one to your vehicle that has that tow package plug it doesn't get much simpler really. You just plug and play for the most part. And with that said, um you know since they all install very similar I figured we'd just show off how we put ours on today. So why don't we go ahead and do that now. Since the installation will be very, very similar for the majority of you out there, I figured we'd just show how we're gonna do ours today. If you're replacing an old worn out seven way you need to get that removed, which I have done, unplugged and un bolted, pretty straightforward. But what I'm gonna do now, I took some of the terminal grease that comes with it and just applied it onto the terminals there. You know, just to give a good layer of protection. I also put some inside of here as well and then it's pretty straightforward. We're just going to plug that into the existing connector Lock it in, bring this up through our bracket, then we'll just take our connector plug and clip that in. There's not a whole lot to it. If you already have a bracket, If your vehicle needs one, you can grab one here at Etrailer, that's just going to kind of fit through that. And it's pretty nice actually that the kit comes included with some hardware. So you're just gonna take one of the bolts, push that through And then on the backside of it you could take a flat washer, a split lock washer, and a nut. Just put all the rest of them in place and tighten them down. Once you're all set not a bad idea to just to hook up, make sure it works. So I just plugged into this test box, and in our case, on our motor home I'm just gonna run through our basics here. Our left turn signal, our right turn signal our brake lights, and our running lights And that'll finish up our look at of the Hopkins Endurance Quick Seven-Way Connector.

Chevrolet Silverado 2500

I purchased this to restore the 7-way recreational trailer connector on my Dodge 2500. The previous owner had cut off the factory connector box and connector. This connector plugged in directly to the truck's tow-package electrical cable connection, providing a quick and simple fix. Works great!

by:

Plugged right in thanks

by:

This worked as advertised, it was very simple to install, and it fixed it so my trailers lights all worked again! Very happy with it so far. :)

After one year this product still works great.
Bought this to replace the factory installed pug. It did take a little modification to install. It pugged up to factory wiring harness and has worked great.

2006 DodgeRam Pickup

I received a Hopkins 50002 Smart Hitch Backup Camera System for Fathers Day but my 2006 dodge diesel had the old square style 7-way connector. I did not want to splice into my wires unless I had no choice. I had recently bought some awesome new tail lights for my boat trailer from etrailer and I thought maybe I could find something there that would make this hook up possible without splicing into my wires. I'm certainly glad I did because they had the new style 7-way connector, just what I needed. I ordered it, installed it along with the camera system and life was great. No splicing wires! Thank you etrailer for making this Fathers Day gift a breeze to install.

2005 Land Rover Discovery II

I received the Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector pretty quick. I had ordered one through another source, but had to return it because it was the wrong one. Then I searched on google and found etrailer.com. After a little bit of searching on their site, I found this connector. They had great pictures and they were accurately-sized so I could see that the attachment holes to the frame of my 2005 Fleetwood Discovery RV would line up exactly. It matched up perfectly and installed in just a few minutes. The package was missing one nut, but that was no big deal as I quickly found a replacement.

Great. Better than the original.

by:
2006 Dodge Sprinter

Quality of construction appears good. There were no fasteners in the package. Main concern is that the pigtail adapter, necessary to adapt the OEM-specific harness to the "generic" outlet, was a little bigger/longer than I'd like. However, this is easy to live with considering the OEM part cost 3X as much! Haven't had the time to see if the wiring pattern for the trailer lighting is correct.

Ian S.

12/27/2017

It works fine but you have to watch out that you dont snag the pigtail adapter wire as you put the hitch into the receiver or hook up the safety chains.

by:

Appears to be high quality components and materials. Included almost everything necessary, including grease to seal the connections. Liked the hex recess for the screw heads molded into the receptacle body. Would have been nice to include Nyloc nuts - Was concerned about tightening the screws enough to make the lock washers work while not damaging the plastic. Used Locktite instead.

As advertized. Plugged right in. No splicing or taping required. Had to drill a cpl new mounting holes. Face plate was a little smaller but all the important stuff fit correctly.
Much better than searching thru auto parts stores.

I found it odd that local parts stores didn't carry this item, as it is a standard Dodge truck plug. So I hit the Internet and found it here at a good price. It was delivered much faster than I anticipated.

A simple part… however, I have ordered hitches, wiring harnesses and other odds and ends. I buy from etrailer because they always have the right part, great installation instructions and videos. The quality is always spot on and the service is fast and helpful.
Why go elsewhere and hope things are right when buying from etrailer you know it’s going to be.

My 2001 Dodge Ram had the wrong plug installed and the connecting plugs from the lights from the factory and the wrong plug didn't match. Went to etrailer.com, searched for my truck, and this plug came up. Ordered it. Received it. Installed it with no issues. The connecting plugs went together easily. Tested it with the trailer and all lights work!!! Thanks etrailer!

It is not a plug and play type connector. There is extra wiring and this does not fit my Jeep Wrangler.

This particular trailer connector is a fit for Jeep Wrangler Unlimited models equipped with the factory tow package only. If it doesnt have the tow package, youd need to use part # 118416 and then an adapter like # 37185 to convert it to a 7-way. If the trailer has brakes, youll want to install a brake controller using the # ETBC7 brake controller install kit.

by:
2007 DodgeRam Pickup

so far everything has been great installed the plug took about 20 minutes. drove to the campground plugged trailer in and all the lights work and brake controller lit up which is what was wrong with my original plug brake controller wouldn't work and now it does with the new plug i got from e-trailer. thanks for a great product.

2013 Mercedes GL450

This product its awesome !!!

After
a silly mistake on my end I broke the OEM Connector on my 13' Mercedes GL450, called the dealer and was told the connector doesn't sell individual and I had to order the Towing Kit (Over $900 !!!) decided to take my chances on aftermarket products.

Began by ordering part# PK11893-11933 from etrailer.com only to discover that the mentioned part worked fine but it didn't fit properly on the OEM Bracket (You had to drill new holes) when taking the plug out to disconnect it I broke the pin so sadly I couldn't sent it back for a refund.

Still, I was determinate to find a perfect fit, so I ordered this part from etrailer.com and this time I got it right. The part fit perfectly and you can even use the stock screws, also the part its rugged and you can tell its a great quality product. Very happy with my purchase. Thanks etrailer.com

This was the exact fit for my Dodge Ram truck and now I can have worry-free trailer electrical connections. My package arrived quickly as usual. ETrailer continues to be my go-to supplier for any of my trailer needs.

by:

This part was almost a 100% direct replacement from the original. The screws which held the old connector to the truck's housing were self threading. For this item, those screws wouldn't work because the heads were too small. Instead, I had to drill new holes in the metal bracket to accommodate the new screws/nuts which came with this kit. This was not really a big deal, and when done, worked better then the originals. The wire connector worked perfectly. Very very satisfied.

Yes, the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190 that you referenced will work as a 7-way replacement for your 2000 Dodge Ram 3500. It sounds like the dealer gave you a Mopar replacement part number that would also work. The # HM42190 is an aftermarket solution that will work just as well and will most likely cost less. When trailer or toad wiring has an issue with running/tail lights but other functions work fine the problem is most often related to a weak ground.
