Replacement 7-Way Harness for 2004 Dodge Ram Pickup

Question:

Ok I have an 04 ram 1500 SLT 4X4 5.7 . The trailer harness that came on the truck stopped working. I replaced it with an OEM style 7 pin. Still nothing. Crawled under my truck, saw the problem. ALL the wires going to the harness were cracked and corroded. I cut the wires thinking it was going to be a quick splice job. Heading towards the cab of the truck I quickly found good clean copper to use. Heading back to the harness was 100 bad. For the life of me I can not find a replacement for that harness. I have no problem cutting the harness off the new new adapter plug and connecting wire to wire... but my problem is the end that was on the truck has 8 wires going to it, the new 7 pin has just that....7 wires.... Help? Either which wires to what or where to get that plug end for my year make and model like overnight...

If it is just the plug-in harness wires that are corroded on your 2004 Dodge Ram, then you can use the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190. This harness includes both the 7-Way and the wiring harness that will plug into the factory wiring on your truck. The harness itself is not available as a separate product.

Otherwise, in order to splice the wires on your truck to your existing connector, your best option is to simply test them with a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Because vehicle manufacturer's often change up the wire colors they use, this is the safest and most accurate method. You can have a buddy sit in the cab and run through the various lighting functions while you test the wires.

I have attached a short video demonstration on the above-mentioned Hopkins Harness that you can also take a look at.
