Trailer Brakes Locking Up When Towed By 2006 Dodge Ram Truck
Question:
I just bought a horse trailer yesterday, and when it is plugged in to my 2006 Dodge the brakes on the trailer lock up, it looks like maybe just on one side. It was just hauled that same day by a Ford and it did not have a problem, all lights, brakes worked. Also with it plugged into my dodge, the brake lights and the turn lights worked, but not the running lights. What might cause this? Would I just need an adapter, if so what adapter would correct this issue?

Since you towed the trailer with your Ford and were not having any issues, and since you had problems with both the brakes locking up and the lights, we know the problem is with your 2006 Dodge Ram. The issue is almost certainly the harness being the problem, as it is likely corroded or the wiring right behind the plug is damaged.
You can check the pins on the connector and if they are corroded you can try and clean them, but will very likely need a new 7-way. Assuming you have the factory tow package with factory 7-way the right part for your 2006 Ram is the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190.
