Video Transcript for Review of SmartStraps Tie Down Straps - Trailer - 348851

Today we're going to take a look at the SmartStraps adjustable wheel net with the ratchet and the snap hooks. And this has a 3,333 working load limit. Now this adjustable tire strap with the ratchet helps you tie down a vehicle on your trailer. It's an adjustable tire strap with snap hooks on the end to secure the anchor points on your trailer. One of the end of the strap right here inserts into the ratchet, and hooks to the anchor on the trailer. And then the adjustable net portion of the strap goes over the whole wheel and tire.

And then this other end right here snaps to another anchor on the end of the trailer. And then by using the ratchet, the whole tie-down can be tightened down. So just by ratcheting it you can tighten it down. Get it is as tight as you need it to secure your wheel and tire. It does use strong, flexible two inch wide heavy duty polyester webbing.

It's yellow for high visibility. Same material that's used in seat belts. The ratchet is a nice heavy-duty ratchet, it has a nice corrosion-resistant zinc plating that will let you adjust the strap to fit small and large tires. Now this net will fit 13 inch to 16 inch tires and wheels. Again, the strap width we mentioned was two inches. Maximum load or break strength on this whole part is 10,000` pounds.

We had mentioned the safe working load limit is 3,333 pounds, and the working load limit will always be 1/3 of the maximum load or breaking strength. Now a note on this, the tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. So for example if you're using straps with a working load limit of 500 pounds each, to tie down a load that weighs a thousand pounds, then you're going to need at least two straps to safely secure the load. And it is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

But that should do it for the review on the SmartStraps adjustable wheel net with the ratchet and the snap hooks.

  • Recommended Wheel Straps For Attaching a Vehicle With 205/65R15 Tires To a Trailer With D-Rings
I'm going to recommend using the ProGrip Adjustable Wheel Net with Ratchet and Snap Hooks # 317-18900 as these adjustable straps are going to have the length necessary to fit your D-ring mounts that are set 46" apart. The wheel straps on these are also adjustable which will make fitting to your specific 205/60R15 tires much easier. With the SmartStraps Ratcheting Wheel Net with Snap Hooks # 348851 not having an adjustable wheel strap it will not likely reach your D-rings mounts spread...

  • Best Way To Secure a Vehicle To a Trailer
The best way to secure a vehicle to trailer is with a wheel net. This takes the guess work out of finding tie-down points on the vehicle and it's the most secure method. The easiest option would be to install e-tracks like the etrailer Horizontal E-Track part # e42VR and then use the Erickson E-Track Wheel Tie-Down Strap with Roller Idler and Ratchet part # EM58523. If you don't want to install tracks then you can use the traditional style, the SmartStraps Ratcheting Wheel Net with Snap...

  • Tire Straps That Will Fit a 33" tall Tire and Connects with Snap Hooks
I have a couple options for you as the SmartStraps Ratcheting Wheel Net with Snap Hooks # 348851 will not fit your 33" tire. The ProGrip Adjustable Wheel Net with Ratchet and Snap Hooks # 317-18900 are designed to fit a tire up to 12-1/2" wide and 33" tall. Each strap has a working load limit of 1,830lbs. The Bulldog Winch Ratcheting Wheel Tie-Down Strap # BDW20362 will fit tires up to 37" tall and has a H-shape that is designed to secure extra-wide tires. Each strap has a working load...

  • Can SmartStraps Adjustable Wheel Net be Installed with Anchor Points Outside Center Line of Wheel
Ideally you'd want the anchor points for a wheel net like the SmartStraps # 348851 to be in-line with the wheel, but since these are rated for 3,333 lbs (each) and you're using them for a Jeep you'll be perfectly safe to install them slightly off-centered. In fact, the demonstration picture from SmartStraps shows them slightly off-centered (see attached). The lateral pull wouldn't stress your tires out.
