Note: Because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.
Unassembled
Because welding can cause damage to the internal components, this actuator comes unassembled for your convenience. No need to waste time taking apart an actuator or risk losing important parts. Once you have the actuator welded in place, the inner slide tube and outercase are both primed to be repainted to match your application.
Adjustable Channel Design
The adjustable channel on this trailer brake actuator allows for ultimate versatility. Mount almost any type of coupler (sold separately) - from a standard ball coupler to a lunette ring or clevis attachment - to fit your specific application. In addition, the 5 mounting positions on the channel let you adjust the height of the coupler. Just place the coupler so that it matches the height of the ball mount or other hitch attachment on your tow vehicle and you will be able to tow your trailer levelly.

Hi, there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Demco Unassembled Hydraulic Brake Actuator. This is a DA10 hydraulic actuator that's going to activate your trailer's hydraulic drum brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stop. It is unassembled for quick and easy welding, so you can get it welded on and it will help prevent any damage to the internal components by allowing you to get it welded on before you assemble it. This is pre-primed so it's ready to be painted once you have it installed.
It is going to weld onto a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. It is made here in the USA of a heavy duty steel construction. It is gonna provide a 12,500 pound gross towing weight capacity, and a 1,250 pound maximum tongue weight. We do have the 12 inch tall adjustable channel here that has the five different mounting positions for your coupler. The coupler is sold separately, but it is a three inch wide channel, so it will work with most channel mount couplers.
And we also have the Acetal copolymer lining that's gonna provide a nice, smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out as you're slowing and stopping, and then accelerating again. Our shock dampeners provide nice, controlled compression. And our composite master cylinder is very durable and efficient. And this does have a nice, large reservoir that's gonna provide increased capacity for your brake fluid. It's a glass reinforced nylon construction, so it is gonna resist rust and corrosion.
And up top, we do have the automotive style diaphragm cap. It's gonna create a completely enclosed system to help prevent contamination of your fluid. The breakaway lever down here on the end is going to activate your trailer's brakes, if your trailer becomes disconnected from your tow vehicle. The snap hook on the safety cable ensures a nice, secure connection to the lever, and makes sure that everything is connected easily and properly for you. So overall, a great option here.
If you are gonna be welding your coupler onto your trailer and you don't want to have to worry about burning up any of the internal components, this is gonna be a great way to go. And that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
