Automotive-Grade Friction Material

Each shoe is lined with automotive-grade friction material for improved stopping performance and longevity. The friction material is fully bonded onto the surface of the brake shoe. This lining is custom-molded for a perfect fit. The edges are tapered to ensure long-lasting performance. This taper, along with the circular grinding that the lining undergoes, helps to prevent cracking and crumbling. This durability helps to prevent mechanical lockup, which can occur when brake shoes are excessively worn or broken.

The friction material is also SAE-N certified, which means that it is an environmentally safe product that complies with California and Washington regulations regarding the composition of brake pads. As a result, this material not only provides high-performance braking that can endure the test of time, but it is also environmentally friendly and safe for use throughout the United States and Canada.

Video Transcript for etrailer Trailer Brakes AKBRKR-S-7 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the replacement electric trailer brake shoes and lining kit for the 7 inch brake assembly on 2,000 pound axles. Now this part is for a quantity of 1 wheel. The part will include everything shown here on the table, the 2 shoes, the 2 hold down clips, now these brake shoes and linings are for electric trailer brakes that are on 2,000 pound axles. Now when these are installed they would measure across 7 inches, and then the width of the pad is 1 1/4 inch. Brake assemblies, when they're listed they're give the size of the brake assemble, and the size basically means that if you measured, once these are installed on your assembly, if you measured straight across the diameter, it would measure 7 1/4 inches when they're installed. Then the width of the pad would be the 1 1/4 inches.

That's how they determine the size of the brake assemblies. Now this does include the primary shoe, and the secondary shoe, and the way you can tell the difference on that, if you look at the size of the pad, you can see this pad is a little bit smaller than this pad. This one is a lot longer. The primary shoe will always point toward the front of the trailer, so when you do install these you want to make sure the primary shoe goes towards the front of the trailer and the secondary shoe, which is the larger, would point toward the rear of the trailer. Now these parts are certified for SAE standards and CSA standards. The CSA standards are the Canadian standards.

When these are installed these are designed to be used with 7 inch drums. That should do it for the review of the replacement electric brake shoe and lining kit for 7 inch brake assembly on 2,000 pound axles.

First of all, etrailer is one of the few companies that asks for reviews long after the purchase, presumably to ensure customer satisfaction and get accurate information regarding their parts' longevity. The replacement brake shoes I ordered were to replace the (electrically-operated) shoes that got soaked with grease from the installment of Bearing-Buddy-type automatic grease fittings I installed (thinking I would save time and effort). (DON'T DO IT! It just pushes grease onto the brake shoes, rendering them essentially useless and irreparable.) As for the parts themselves, they fit perfectly and arrived on-time as I remember. While the parts have less than 1k miles on them, there have been no problems with these parts at all. In fact, I've never had issues with any parts from etrailer. Their reputation is quite high in my opinion.

These worked great to rebuild the Dexter brakes in my camper. etrailer had the right parts, at the right price, and fast delivery too! Thank you.

by:

Exactly like the ones I took off which had overheated, except the new ones had good shoes! All the right holes in all the right places.

by:

Shoes shipped as promised. I ordered wrong shoes. Returned and received correct shoes for my camper. There whole team excellent. Will always use and recommend etrailer.com

by:

A perfect replacement on an older trailer !

by:

Exact fit the only down side is that one set of brake shoes does one side of the axle so if you have 2 axles you need 4 sets of brake shoes.

  • Replacement Brake Assembly For 7 x 1-1/4 Brakes
There should be a sticker on on the brake assembly that will have the serial number and manufacturer however that sticker may have worn off over time. I went ahead and looked up your order and it appears you ordered the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-2. These braking assemblies will fit wheels sizing 10" to 13", and has an axle rating of 2,000lbs. You may also need the Replacement Shoe and Lining for 7" Electric Brake Assemblies # AKBRKR-S-7 as well. What you can do for next time...

  • Replacement Trailer Brake Assemblies for 2007 T@B 16 CS Camper
I have a solution for you, but unfortunately we do not have any brake shoes that are designed to fit AL-KO brake assemblies. Brake shoes are specific to the manufacuter's brake assembly, so unfortunately I cannot guarantee our Replacement Shoe and Lining # AKBRKR-S-7 will work for you. Rather than just replacing the brake shoe and lining, I recommend replacing the entire brake assembly. While the entire assembly does cost a bit more than only the shoe and lining, it will save you the frustration...

  • Replacement Brake Shoes for Electric Brakes
The brake shoes you need are going to depend on the diameter of your current assemblies and the weight capacity of your axle. The # AKBRKR-S-10 are replacement brake shoes for 10" diameter x 2-1/4" thick manual-adjust, electric trailer brake assemblies on a 3,500 lb axle. I took a look at the previous assemblies you purchased, and they were 7" assemblies for 2,000 lb axles. Since yours are automatic adjusting, the correct brake shoes would be # AKBRKR-S-7 which are for 7" diameter x 1-1/4"...
