Recommended Hitch Adapter for Yakima Holdup Bike Rack and Cargo Carrier

Question:

I have a 2inch hitch on my truck and a 1.25inch hitch on wifes suv. Can I use this adapter for a Yakima holdup and my cargo carrier? I purchased on that extends it 7 inches and it seems to have a lot more swaying.

The Replacement Aluminum Hitch Adapter Sleeve for Saris 1-1/4" Hitch Bike Racks # SA3032 is not the best option for you. There is not a shank adjustment sleeve like that for your Yakima Holdup. You would either want the 2 inch shank # 8880580 or the 1-1/4 inch shank # 8880581. An adapter sleeve just won't hold that particular rack well.

The expander you referenced using like # HTAD is an option, but it will allow more sway as you mentioned and it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50%.

If you need to use a reducer, I recommend the Brophy Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HT02. This will work well for your bike rack, but will still allow some movement. When using for a cargo carrier, the maximum tongue weight is 300 lbs.
