This replacement base for your SuperClamp lets you tilt the rack down with your bikes loaded for access to your vehicle's rear cargo area and fold it up against your vehicle for storage. The handle is located in the front of the rack so it's easy to access. Simply lift the handle and use your free hand to lower or raise the rack.
If you only need to carry 2 bikes you can use the replacement base to convert your 4-bike SuperClamp into a 2-bike SuperClamp to save space. Just remove the rear wheel tray on your SuperClamp and bolt it to the replacement base.

Hey everyone, today we're going to take a look at the tilting base for the Saris SuperClamp and SuperClamp EX 4 bike racks. Now, this base is a replacement for the Saris SuperClamp bike rack to offer a tilt away feature, or you can even use it to replace the base on your Saris SuperClamp EX 4 bike rack. That'll convert it down to a two bike rack, with still having that tilting option. Having that upgrade to a tilt away feature is going to allow you to gain rear hatch access. If you have the original SuperClamp, this is going to be a nice feature to add without having to purchase a new bike rack. All we have to do is pull the handle that is on our base.
We'll just pull it out. Now we can tilt it away with two bikes loaded. We can come around and now open up our hatch. And you can see we have plenty of clearance between the hatch and the handlebars. We can grab whatever cargo, groceries, anything like that that we might need out of here.To tilt it back up you want to make sure you grab a hold of the bike rack itself and not the bikes attached to it.
So we're just going to grab it, tilt it up until we hear it lock into place. Now, whether you are upgrading your standard SuperClamp to have this tilt away feature, or downgrading your SuperClamp EX 4 bike rack to a two bike rack, you can have all the same features from your bike rack, and in the case of the four bike rack down to a two, you're not going to lose that tilt away feature.Not only is going to upgrade your SuperClamp to tilt away from the vehicle, but you can also fold it up to conserve on space. You just pull that same handle, and then just fold it up 'til it locks into place. Now, in my opinion the easiest way to get this rack installed on your tilting base is to go ahead and take your tilting base and put it in your hitch receiver. Take your anti rattle bolt from the bike rack and then tighten it down, that way it's in the air and you'll be able to lift it up, and get it installed.First thing we're going to do, take the bracket that was from your original bike rack, put it against the bolt holes in the bike rack.
Then we're going to pick it up and put it up against the tilting base. If you need an extra set of hands you can ask for one. From here, just grab a bolt and fee it through the brackets. From there it should hold itself up. And we'll just grab our locknuts and put them on the other side.
Now, you're going to want to make sure you grab the allen tool that was included with your original SuperClamp EX or SuperClamp bike rack, and then you're going to want to get a 17 millimeter wrench, then we can just tighten it up. Once you've got your bikes loaded, you're ready to hit the road. Thank you all for watching. That's going to do it for our look at the tilting base for the Saris SuperClamp bike rack.

I had a tire mount Saris Bike rack and bought a new car so purchased the adapter to make it a hitch mount bike rack. I purchased this Hitch Tite Anti Rattle pin which is whisper quiet. If you have a hitch mount rack this is a must have. I had the hitch installed at Uhaul for a reasonable rate and they installed the rack and the hitch pin for me. We logged a lot of miles on our bike rack this year and the rack and this hitch pin are great.

I have the older model Saris superclamp and bought this to allow for tilting (away when not in use and to tilt away from the trunk). It works as advertised and is secure. The only thing keeping it from a five star rating is that it does add some play and the bikes shake a bit over bumps. That being said, overall it’s worth it for the flexibility.

Still love my Saris in rack. It is super easy to load my bike and love how it folds out so I can get into the back of my suv. Great product! I keep a couple of extra tire holders on hand in case someone hits one cause they do break if hit by a car in the parking lot.
