Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit RP50140 Review

Today we're going to review part number RP50140. This is the Reese quick install custom bracket kit for fifth wheel trailer hitches. This is a custom-fit part number. It is designed to fit the Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 standard and quad-cab, starting in 2003; also the Dodge Ram Megacab 1500, 2500, and 3500, starting in 2006. With any custom part number what I do like to recommend is just to go to our website, use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle and it will tell you if this is the correct part for your application. This part includes the brackets and the hardware to install them. These are custom brackets that will mount beneath your truck bed, provides an attachment points for the fifth wheel rails.

The rails are not included. Those we do sell separately. They use a RP58058 and that part is listed as a related product on this product page. Once these brackets are installed on your frame and then the rails are installed it'll sit in the truck bed and allow installation of a fifth-wheel trailer hitch in your truck bed. These are vehicle-specific brackets. They mount to existing holes in your vehicle's frame and because of that it will minimize drilling and measuring time and it'll also cut the installation time in half when compared with the universal bracket systems. This kit does include the brackets and the hardware.

One note, it will not work on the Dodge Ram models with gas engines and overload springs, starting in 2010. The brackets themselves have a nice black powder-coat finish to help resist corrosion. Again, this part includes the four brackets and the hardware to install them. That should do it for the review on part number RP50140, the Reese quick install custom bracket kit for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. .

Five hours to install; which included a half hour searching for the key to the padlock on my spare. E-Trailer linked me to an installation video which really helped. I took my time and measured three times before I drilled the bed. Installation is a lot easier with someone to hold the bolts from the top. I fabricated mounting brackets on my last truck, but these were worth the money and I didn't have to drill the frame! Good design and straight-forward installation. My only issue was the video didn't show one bolt install that secured the driver's side rear bracket to the bottom of the frame. I was going off the video only and wasn't using the written instructions. Make sure you go step by step using both. Also, some parts are clearly for a different application so there will be a few parts left over. My experience with e-trailer was awesome.

by:

Easy to install. Does not come with all hardware pictured in photo. Make sure to keep all spacers/ blocks from rails if removing from another vehicle to use with this kit. Instructions do say some hardware is with the rail kit. All in all a great product. E-trailer has great videos and support.

Upgraded my truck to a 2019 F250 Superduty. Received my new rail kit and mounting brackets. Fits perfect!

by:

Installation was good and very happy. Thank you

by:

This did not fit my truck right. Front brackets fit fine. The rear brackets lined up with all the holes but the chassis strap brackets are wrong. The spacers are also too short. Contacted e trailer. They checked inventory said their boxes were all wrong also. They contacted the mfg and i waited a month only to get a box of bolts and spacers and no straps. Had to have some fabbed locally. This is for my 2024 silverado 2500 custom.

by:

Instructions not clear enough/descriptive. Took 4 hours for my mechanic to install. would have been much simpler to loosen and lift box instead of taking everything apart as per instructions. Product seems good will know how it works after hitching up trailer.

by:

Very happy how soon the product I ordered was at my door step. 3 days after I ordered it. Put the base to my 5th wheel on my 2017 250 diesel sd took me around 5 hrs, would have been faster with 2 people. The base fit my husky 16k prefect when I done torquing all the bolts. Going to use this hitch to pull my 29.5 Durango EZ 1500.

by:

The costom bracket kit is of heavy steel, powder coated for protection, from your video it is going to be a lot easier to install and save time, alot less drilling and mounting of components, I am very satisfied with this product and cannot wait to install it on my 2013 Ford f150,will be pulling a 25 foot 5th wheel camper, thanks trailer for a great product

by:

I did not use this item in my institution and was returned because I had the bed replaced with a flat bed and they used the factory placed holes in their insulation. Designed new attachment plates and had them fabricated in a local machine shop, attached using 3 half inch harder bolts each and all is working well.

by:

Very easy to install. Measure twice, drill once. I used every piece of galvanic corrosion tape to protect the aluminum bed in the kit, probably could have used a little more. Even though I painted the edge of the holes after drilling, maybe some sort of insulator could be used there also.

by:

We ordered a bracket kit for our new 2017 F350. It was needed to install our Reese fifth wheel. which we use to pull our RV. Product was on back order by manufacturer, however Delisa at Etrailer diligently kept us very informed with updates & shipping status. My husband & son were able to install in a couple of hours. Looks great, outstanding craftsmanship & over exceeded our expectations! We would highly recommend!!!!!

by:

Still waiting for my package that was supposed to be here yesterday. It's been bouncing around 2 states clear on the other end of the country. I'll change my review if it ever shows up at my door.

  • Which Installation Kit Is Needed For A 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed Using A Reese 16K Fifth Wheel
The Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit, # RP50082, that you have referenced is designed for 1999 to 2011 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450 Super Duty, (gas models only for 2011). It is not made to fit on your 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed. So you do not have the correct mounting brackets on your vehicle. As far as the location of the king pin being 2 inches in front of the rear axle, that is an acceptable location because you are still in front of the rear axle, which is important. That is why...

  • Bracket Kit Needed to Install Reese Fifth Wheel Rails in Bed of 1998 Dodge Ram 3500
For your 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 there is a bracket kit that will allow you to install your Reese rails, but none of them are custom fit brackets. Only options are universal L-brackets like part # RP30439 which do fit your truck but do require drilling. There are no other custom fit kits for your truck from other brands that wouldn't require drilling either.

  • Mounting Brackets for Little Rocker Fifth Wheel Hitch
We offer Reese mounting brackets, part # RP50140 that are compatible with your 2007 Dodge Ram 2500. I have provided a link to the installation instructions. We do not recommend mixing the RBW bed rails with the Reese frame brackets, as the resulting weight capacity cannot be guaranteed. The Reese bed rails will work with your Little Rocker hitch, so I would recommend going with the Reese frame and bed brackets. The brackets and rails are offered as a set, as part # RP50140-58. • Mounting Hardware Needed to Install Reese Base Rails on a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab with 6' Bed
If the base rails that you have are the Reese Universal Base Rails # RP58058 then you will want to use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit # RP50140 for your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Mega Cab with a 6 foot bed. You can verify that you have the same base rails by measuring them. These base rails are 43 inches long. You could also use the Reese Universal Installation Kit # RP30439 along with the Reese Mounting Bracket # RP58023 for a more cost effective solution, but it will be a little...

On your 2007 Dodge Ram 2500, we do carry just the custom fit 5th wheel installation kit brackets and hardware without the springs. You would need Reese Quick-Install Custom Bracket Kit, # RP50140. First, you will need to make sure that the RBW rails have the same mounting holes as the Reese rails so that you will be able to use the brackets. There will need to be a total of 8 mounting holes on each side of the rail; 4 at the front and 4 at the back. The distance between the inner most...

  • Fifth Wheel Solution for 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Short Bed with B and W Gooseneck Hitch Installed
So you'll have a couple options. Ideally you go with a Companion Slider hitch part # BWRVK3400 which will fit directly to the B and W Turnoverball hitch you have installed in the bed of your truck. This will basically give you the nicest hitch around and the ability to still tow a gooseneck trailer if you need to. Otherwise the Turnoverball has to get removed from your truck to install a set of fifth wheel rails. To pick out the correct brackets I'd need to know the brand of rails that...

  • Can Reese 16k Fifth Wheel Hitch from 2009 Ford F-150 fit 2009 Dodge Ram
Yes, the rails and hitch that you sent in a picture of can be installed in your 2009 Dodge Ram. It will be just a matter of replacing the install brackets and you'd be set. For that you'd want # RP50140. Then for the replacement hardware to hold the rails to the brackets you'd want the part # 58164.

  • Parts Needed to Install a Reese 16K Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 with 6ft Bed
The additional parts that you will need will depend on what parts you plan on reusing. It is common to reuse the base rails, however Reese does not recommend reusing the frame brackets or hardware. After years of use, the bolts and frame brackets will wear and flex. Using new hardware will ensure a secure connection. For your 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Mega Cab, Reese offers custom and semi-custom frame brackets, so you have a few different options. If you would like to reuse your base rails,...
