Clearance Options for Using the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack on a Jeep Wrangler Willys 2020

Question:

Hello, I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition. I will be installing a 2inch hitch and would liek the Sherpa 2.0 to transport my road bikes. Given the larger tires on the Willys, I dont think I will be able to fold up the Sherpa 2.0 but am not 100 positive on this? Additionally, will I be able to title it down and open the back without the bikes? I am trying to determine if I just need an extender or if I need to invest in the Kuat swing 2.0 to be able to access the back of the jeep without the bikes attached. Of course the swing will allow access regardless but not sure I need this.

I would be happy to help you. I spoke with my rep at Kuat we came up with an option for you but he does not think you will have the clearance you need to fold the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack item # SH22G or tilt it down to open the door on your 2020 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition. The hitch pin hole on the Kuat sits 11" from the first part of the bike rack in the folded position that would contact your spare tire. When tilted down you would have 11.5" before your door would contact the bike rack.

To get the clearance you need you can use the Kuat Hi-Lo Hitch Extender - 2" Hitches - 7" or 10" Extension - 2-1/8" Rise/Drop item # HL20B. This hitch extender gives you 7" or 10" of clearance when installing your bike rack in your hitch. This adapter does reduce your hitches capacity by 50% but you should still have more than enough ability to use the Sherpa 2.0 bike rack and your bikes at a maximum of 141 lbs combined.

The Kuat Pivot 2 Swing Away Hitch Extender item # PVP20B is great option that will like you said solve both of your problems. This will give you an additional 12" of space between the hitch pin hole and your bike rack. This will give you plenty of room on the back of your Jeep to clear your spare tire.

I linked an article below that helps with measuring vehicles with spare tires for proper fit of bike racks.
