Video Transcript for Review of Convert-A-Ball Hitch Ball - 005B

Today we're going to take a look at the Convert-A-Ball cover for the interchangeable shank. Now, this cover will work on any of the shanks that are in the Convert-A-Ball interchangeable ball sets. We do sell those separately on our website. Basically, those ball sets allow you to remove the hitch ball from the shank and replaced with different sizes. So once you take the hitch ball off of the shank, this cover can be installed over the shank, help shield that interchangeable shank against any wear and weather. You can see it as a nice molded flexible plastic.

It's in a black color. It is made in the USA. So again, you just slide this over it and it'll protect it, and when you're ready to put the hitch ball on, just remove it and install your hitch ball. But that should do it for the review on the Convert-A-Ball cover for the interchangeable shank.

I purchased the entire Convert-a-Ball outfit with cover and bag. All installation was intuitive. I have been towing farm trailers and swapping balls out in minutes. Having the greasy ball off and shank covered has save some pants. Great product. Added the strip tie for security , probably not necessary.

Purchased with the long shank Convert-A-Ball hitch, and just what is needed for both weather protection and appearance when not towing. The service, helpful videos, and follow up all the way to product delivery, which was on time as promised with this and other orders I have done with etrailer, makes your company a favorite and one I will recommend to others. Good job, etrailer!

I havent used the equipment as often as expected, but you can mark me down as still very satisfied. Thanks

I have been using "convert-a-ball" for about 25 to 30 years now, unfortunately, when
I sell the vehicle that it is attached to (after explaining to the new owner), the setup has always gone with the rig . . . I also always get the SS version of them, because of the add'l strength provided & the non rust feature. Wouldn't have anything else.
I still have the original "convert-a-ball" mounted on my 1977 J20 Jeep. Still in use!

Works great. Been installed for a year

Would expect nothing less than the best quality from Convert-a-Ball - the shank cover is up to their usual high quality.

I would recommend Convert-A-Ball products for anyone.

I love etrailer and their prices, cutomer service etc. but I read the mixed reviews on this cover before I bought it, and decided to give it a try regardless of the reservations I had about it not fitting snuggly enough to stay on in day to day conditions, and how easily it can be stolen. well I have to say I'm disappointed now that I received it. the fit is extremely loose, there is now way it would have lasted more than a couple blocks without falling off, and surely no chance at highway speeds! I even tried to use a heat gun to see if I could shrink it tighter onto the ball mount, but all it did was make this type of rubber more pliable, which in turn worsened the problem until it cooled. never the less, great concept, bad design. save your money

I have looked all over my town and nearby towns, but they don't carry these interchangeable balls. Due to having a very high truck, my drop down is very long. The interchangeable balls will make trailer changes much easier. I am very pleased with the quality of the product and with the delivery time.

by:

I keep the ball stud greased and this keeps it so that it doesn't get all over things

by:

If you do not want dust (aka known as abrasive) on the unit, as well as a cool looking addition -- the cover is for you! They do make a pretty fair profit, I am sure, on perhaps less than a dime's worth of plastic -- but, I deemed it such a worthwhile extravagance :) --I purchased one each for my several units.

by:

Great product, keeps the interior storage area of my truck clean while my receiver hitch is being stored.

Convert a ball shank coverNice, high quality, snug fitting cover to protect your convert a ball shank when you do not have your towing balls attached. Helps keep shank clean, and prevents rust and oxidization

by:

I ask him how he liked his convert a ball and he said “ I love it!”.
Take THAT to the bank. I rarely hear anything near that response.

by:

This item fits tightly over the pin when convert-a-ball itself is not on. Ordering and delivery was quick and easy and was on time. I would shop at e-trailers again

by:

Great product, this makes it easy to switch any ball if you are using different trailers from time to time. Fast shipping and good price.

by:

If you have a Convert-A-Ball setup, get one of these to ensure that your shank stays clean of debris and grime. It fits snugly, and is FAR better than an old tennis ball!

]Convert-a-ball shank cover and ball storage container. Both items are great and worth the good price paid for each.

awesome service

by:

thanks for the follow up, I haven't used the hitch accessory much but when I have I've been totally happy with it. Very pleased with everything.

Thanks Laura, still working great. Thanks for your product interest support.

by:

Great protective cover for the convert-a-ball shank, helps to prevent corrosion too!

by:

Keep your tow shank greased and ready for use without worries of grease getting on your clothes. Protects it from rusting from rain & car washes. Looks great and fits snug enough to stay in place.

by:

Fits snugly and looks great!

by:

Looks good on the hitch will no ball is there.

by:

Nice cover for the new hitch!

Absolutely love this product. I have two utility trailers with different hitch sizes and this has been so much more convenient than having to switch receivers. The case and hitch cover are a MUST to complete the set. Very, Very pleased and, as always, you folks have excellent service and support.

Ordered a black one got the grey, don't matter returning from my first trip it was no longer attached, looks like the wind blew it off in spite of firmly putting it in place

  • Recommendation for Covering my Convert-A Ball When Not in Use
For covering you Convert-A-Ball you want Convert-a-Ball Cover for Interchangeable Shank part # 005B. I walked out to the warehouse and confirmed that this is a black cover that will fit over your convert-a-ball shank when not in use protecting it from the elements. Happy Towing!

  • Recommended 2 Inch Hitch Ball With 1 Inch Diameter Shank and has a Shank Length of 2-1/2 Inches
The Convert-A-Ball # 901B will meet your tow ball needs. This interchangeable ball has the ability to have a 2 inch ball or 1-7/8 inch ball, the length of the shank is 2-1/2 inches and the diameter of the shank is 1 inch, and has a towing capacity of 10,000lbs. To protect your ball shank when it's not in use I recommend the Convert-a-Ball cover # 005B. If you don't mind a longer shank, 3 inches, the Curt # C40020 would also work. I have linked a demonstration video for your convenience.

  • Availability of Replacement Convert-A-Ball Shank for Interchangeable Ball System
We sure do! For a 1 inch diameter replacement shank, use # 106B or for a 3/4 inch diameter shank, use part # 104B. Both shanks are stainless. There is also a protective cover available for the shanks which is part # 005B.

  • Thread Pitch For Convert-A-Ball 1" Shank For Interchangeable Ball Set
The Convert-A-Ball Shank # 106B used in the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 906b uses a 1"-14 thread pitch. Be sure to get the Convert-a-Ball Cover # 005B and Storage Case # 004B to protect your parts.

  • Can the Convert-a-Ball System be Left on the Draw Bar when not Towing
The ball pin uses rubber o-rings to hold it in place, the friction holds the pin from moving. I would suggest using a ball cover for a couple reasons. First since it wraps around the ball, the pin would not be able to come out so the ball will stay on. Second, I have ruined a couple pairs of pants by brushing up against greasy hitch balls. And third, a hitch cover will keep water off the ball, which is not as big of deal with stainless, but it is a good practice. I have added a link to...

  • Cover for Upper Shank on Interchangeable Ball Sets
We do have a cover for certain interchangeable ball sets. It is Convert-a-Ball Cover for Interchangeable Shank Item # 005B. It is designed to fit Convert-A-Ball systems though. So what I recommend is to use Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set - 1-7/8", 2" Balls - 3/4" XL Shank - Nickel Item # 800B. I have linked a video review for you.

  • Ways to Prevent Rust on Interchangeable Hitch Ball Sets
Yes, I am sure that there are many people out there with your similar concerns. Since an interchangeable hitch ball set like part # 63803 has the quick-release mechanism on the top of the ball, it is very possible for water to get in here. In an effort to prevent this, we recommend doing just as you said, keep things greased with a light weight oil and stored when not in use. As for using a cover, the good news about a cover is that it will prevent the ball from direct contact with the...

  • Matching Hitch Ball to Ball Mount DTBM4600
You are correct! The thickness of the ball mount platform is 1 inch. We have hitch balls that will fit with capacities up to 7,000 lbs. The hitch ball shank length needs to be at least 2 inches. We also have convert-a-ball hitch balls that go up to 10,000 lbs. If you are using the convert-a-ball system, the pin will lock into place and not fall off, even if no trailer is hitched up. I would recommend not leaving the ball and pin on your vehicle because of possible theft. We have shank...

  • Stainless Steal Standard Convert-A-Ball 3 Hitch Ball Kit, Storage Case, and Cover Part Numbers
Thanks for reaching out, Bruce! The Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 902B comes with the 2-1/4" standard shank length so it's the kit you're looking for. The XL kit, part # 105TB, comes with a 3" shank length just or reference. Then to wrap up the rest of the parts you asked about you'll need the Storage Case # 004B and the Cover # 005B.

  • Are Interchangeable Trailer Ball Kits from Convert-A-Ball Safe?
The Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Trailer Ball Kits are perfectly safe up to their 10K capacity, just as safe as a standard one-piece trailer ball, so you'll have no worries there. This is without a doubt the type of interchangeable ball I'd recommend. The side pin arrangement that Convert-A-Ball uses works great, and the pin actually features an o-ring on it to keep moisture and debris out. The # 904B kit you'd looked at is nickel plated, and over time the nickel plating can be worn...

  • How Does Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Set , # 900b, Attach To Hitch Ball Post
The Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Set , # 900b, hitch balls attach to the included post and shank by the locking pins. The correct size ball is put on the post and the holes are lined up. Then the locking pin is pushed in place thru the holes and locks. To remove the ball you would press the dimple on the end of the locking pin, which releases the pin and it can be pushed out. The hitch balls only attach to the included post and shank, they will not work on a different ball post. I also...

  • Comparing the Nickel Plated and Stainless Steel Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set
The stainless steel construction of the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set part # 902B is going to be much more weather resistant than the nickel plated steel of the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set part # 900B. There shouldn't be any rust inside the pinhole with the stainless set however, dirt and grime can still get inside and cause the pin to stick which can be present on both the stainless and nickel plated options therefore, I recommend using the Convert-a-Ball Cover part...
