Are Interchangeable Trailer Ball Kits from Convert-A-Ball Safe?

Question:

Hello, how safe are these type of replaceable balls, is the one with the side pin better than the push button style, also, do you offer one that doesnt rust after it has been used? Can either of the ball styles be left installed all the time even if not in used? Thanks.

The Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Trailer Ball Kits are perfectly safe up to their 10K capacity, just as safe as a standard one-piece trailer ball, so you'll have no worries there. This is without a doubt the type of interchangeable ball I'd recommend.

The side pin arrangement that Convert-A-Ball uses works great, and the pin actually features an o-ring on it to keep moisture and debris out. The # 904B kit you'd looked at is nickel plated, and over time the nickel plating can be worn off from the metal-to-metal contact and can eventually rust, which is why it's a good idea to remove the ball when its not being used. You can also apply a thin layer of all-purpose grease to the ball which will offer some protection. When the ball is removed, you can use a protective cover like # 005B to protect the shank from the elements.

A storage bag like # ETBMB would work well, and would provide a good way to keep the interior of your truck or toolbox clean, so the grease doesn't get all over the place.

Convert-A-Ball also offers a stainless model, part # 906B which would offer greater corrosion resistance.
