Matching Hitch Ball to Ball Mount DTBM4600
Question:
Another question on this product. What is the thickness of the ball mounting platform? It appears to be 1 inch and if that is the case it appears you do not have a 2 ball with 1 shank that will work with this other than the convert-a-ball. And on the convert-a-ball, does the pin lock inside the ball or should you remove the ball if you are not using it since the coupler will keep the pin in place when in use?

You are correct! The thickness of the ball mount platform is 1 inch. We have hitch balls that will fit with capacities up to 7,000 lbs. The hitch ball shank length needs to be at least 2 inches.
We also have convert-a-ball hitch balls that go up to 10,000 lbs. If you are using the convert-a-ball system, the pin will lock into place and not fall off, even if no trailer is hitched up. I would recommend not leaving the ball and pin on your vehicle because of possible theft. We have shank covers for the convert-a-ball system so you can leave just the shank on your ball mount. I have attached a link to a hitch ball, convert-a-ball system and covers below.
