Today were going to take a quick look at the Fulton A-frame Coupler for two and five sixteenth balls part number f44305r0500. Now Fulton covers this coupler with a limited three year warranty. It has a gross trailer capacity of 10,000 pounds. Again its designed to be used with trailer balls that measure two and five sixteenths inches. This coupler comes unfinished so you can paint it or finish to suit whatever needs you have for your trailer. The latch mechanism works by pulling this release trigger on the bottom side of the latch and lifting the handle up.
As you do this the wedge inside our coupler is pulled up and away from our trailer ball releasing it. Now back up at the latch well you see theres a hole here to secure the lock and prevent it from opening while trailering down the road but itll also prevent theft. When you open the latch the hole lines up with the cut outs in the top of the mount so you can re-insert that pin and keep the jaw open while your hooking or unhooking your trailer. Its designed to be used with 50 degree A-frame trailers and it has a cut out and threaded holes for mounting your jack. Now weve got a two and five sixteenth ball with us today so we can show how the coupler works with the ball.
Well pull up our release trigger, open the latch and we can fit our ball into place. The latch closes and the wedge moves down securing the ball. It allows free movement so the trailer will track nicely behind the vehicle but it is captive and wont let the ball out. Well lift up our latch, the wedge moves back and we can remove the ball. Thats it for a quick look at the Fulton A-frame Coupler for two and five sixteenth balls part number f44305r0500..

High-strength, weld-on, stamped coupler for 50-degree-angle trailer frames features an easy-to-use wedge latch and a convenient, built-in A-frame jack-attachment port. The trailer was built in 1983 and with Donna's expert assistance I was able to get the exact replacement coupler. The coupler replacement went trouble free and fairly easy with the right tools. I would definitely do this again if needed.
I received the Fulton coupler this afternoon and I couldn't be happier with the overall quality of the product. I have owned over a dozen RV's and repaired all of them plus many others for family and friends. The coupler on my newer Coachmen Apex failed and came off of the 25/16" ball while driving through a construction zone at 35 miles per hour. I was very luck as the only real damage was to the bumper on my pick up and the tongue jack. I put the coupler back on the ball and wrapped a chain around the frame and drove home. I would advice anyone reading this review to check you coupler by attaching it to the ball on your hitch and running the tongue jack down to lift the coupler up to see it moves up any distance before lifting the ball up. Many of the couplers made in China are a stamped product with no means of adjusting the coupler for excessive play. If you find any amount of play in the coupler my advice is to order a new quality coupler from Etrailer like the Folton product or one of their fine products. I know that I will feel much better knowing that my trailer will be is secure and firmly attached to my hitch ball. This coupler can be welded or bolted on to your trailer frame. I choose to bolt the coupler on as I couldn't get a welder to come to my location and many of the couplers sold by Etrailer are bolt on couplers.
I generally prefer this type of coupler and have them on other trailers. The locking mechanism works fairly well as time/wear/rust passes. The fit and finish could be better but it's okay for the money and some detail work with a small grinder. I absolutely despise the Bulldog Sleeve type hitch because they are an awkward two handed struggle to connect/disconnect AND THAT DAMN SLEEVE IS ALWAYS RUSTED-STUCK.
I had this coupler now for a full year and its bullet proof. Great design for quick release. Very Happy with my purchase.
Love it
