eZ-Latch Coupler

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the contoured handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

Demco eZ-Latch in Use

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this A-frame coupler features a durable silver powder coat finish that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This finish has a 500-hour salt spray rating, making the coupler perfect for marine use. The eZ-Latch's sleek, ergonomically designed handle is constructed of a durable composite material that's corrosion-proof, allowing it to withstand whatever the road and the elements dish out.

This thing is a beast. It did lengthen my trailer by a few inches, so I had to readjust my load leveling hitch, chains and wiring harness, but it was totally worth it. No more fighting with the factory installed latch. The next trailer I buy will have one of these installed before towing it off the lot.

by:

Love it.... So much better than that finger pinching, hard to open & close bullnose hitch.

by:

This is without a doubt the very best engineered and fabricated hitches I have seen in my 70 years. I have been around trucking (semi's ) my entire life and would expect this kind of quality from a professional standpoint. However, this high quality and heavy steel construction usually isn't offered to the private sector. HOME RUN!!!

Wow, 70 years! That is awesome! With all your experience, that compliment really means a lot. Did you do cross country our mostly stay in state?

by:

I am happy with how fast it was delivered. But the packing worried me. The small plastic lights were just tossed into the box along with the very heavy trailer hitch. The edge of the box was torn. The heavy metal hitch could have very easily crushed the plastic items. Maybe those could have been placed inside a rolled up paper bag.

But lucking out there was no breakage.

I will review after I install. But I like it. The led light wires are big enough to splice onto other wires.

Consider me happy

Excellent coupler! Easy to latch and u nlatch.

by:

I had to grind the coupler off of our 1970 Airstream to install this unit. Took 1/2 day to grind off the coupler and smooth off the welds. I ended up using three 3/8" drill bits to drill the 10 holes required for the Demco coupler. It also required that I elongate the jack stand holes as the top and bottom shelf holes where not exactly lined up perpendicular so the jack sat at a slight angle. I only had to elongate both holes about 1/8". I used a sabre saw with a very good blade and cut a very neat edge. It was a 2 day job doing it in my driveway at my pace and wasn't really difficult. It did require perseverance but the end result is worth it. Nice coupler and it feels secure.

This Demco coupler has been great. It locks in very secure and feels like a very robust unit. Glad I took the time to install it. It has been better than the factory Airstream coupler.

by:

I love this trailer tongue. No more guessing if the cup is sitting tightly over the ball, just lower the trailer and it automatically slides into place. Great idea.

by:

Excellent product , shipping, price and wonderful service.

by:

I purchased this coupler to replace the coupler on my 1997 Featherlite trailer. The coating and the five hole pattern (to match the existing coupler) were my determining factors. I also REALLY wanted to get a coupler with the EZ-Latch setup as I had heard nothing but good things about that type of ball latch system.

This coupler worked perfectly for me! I had it bolted on in a matter of minutes and the EZ-Latch system is the only way to go!!

by:

Great product and customer service. Fast shipper.

by:

It’s been a year and I’m having to replace the hitch on my trailer once again. The factory one broke around the ball. This one is cracking beside one of the factory welds. I do put a lot of miles on and the trailer is around 18k loaded. So all in all it’s done it’s job.

by:

Great product, very well made

by:

I am very pleased with the online catalog of etrailer, the description of the trailer coupler was very accurate. It is well built and made of heavy steel. I have it installed it and it allows the trailer to follow my truck very true. I was a little apprehensive about the auto connect feature. After a couple of times of hooking the trailer to my truck, I don't think I would change. I purchased the bolt on style for future ease of changing out the coupler if it is ever needed. The only draw back is that all the holes and bolt threads are metric not ASE. I will definitely come back to etrailer in the future.

by:

You guys were great in processing my order and shipping it out to me in a timely manner.BUT..do to my fault I chose the wrong one..its to heavy for my jeep. I need to order the coupler but with 2 inch ball hitch.I'm going to call tomorrow to order another one

by:

Was looking for a stainless coupler for my aluminum car hauler. Never could find one, so I tried this powder coated one from Demco. It has worked very well. Pleased with how it has held up being stored outside. Still looks like the day I installed it. Awesome product!

by:

Like that you can put the latch down before coupling to hitch.

by:

Its is bending up where the tongue jack is mounted so I'm really not that happy with it week metal i guess

by:

Beefy! Excellently what I was looking for! Fit was spot-on; lined up perfectly with original coupler. EZ-Latch works as advertised. Outstanding service from etrailer

by:

Very pleased with the purchase. Was delivered in a timely manner and product was as described. Would gladly do business with Etrailer again.

by:

Product is great, but it would have been nice to have some info with it, like size of bolts required, etc.

  • Trailer Coupler Repair Kit for Coleman Bayside Popup Camper
I do have an option for you but the most realistic solution would be to replace the entire coupler which I know is not ideal since they are welded-on. That said, coupler repair kits are not universal and although I don't know which exact coupler you have on your trailer, it's very likely to be discontinued which means the odds of there being a trailer coupler repair kit compatible are very low. They do not offer trailer coupler repair kits for all trailer couplers, even the newer couplers....

  • How Much Wiggle Room Should There Be In A Trailer Coupler
Correct, there will need to be a small amount of wiggle room or play between the trailer coupler and hitch ball which is to allow the trailer to track and turn smoothly. If the connection point between the trailer coupler and hitch ball was too tight then the trailer would not track or turn correctly. However, if the connection point is too lose then the coupler could become detached from the hitch ball. The vast majority of trailer couplers are not adjustable but there might be a few out...

There is one A-frame coupler that accepts a 2-5/16" hitch ball and fits the bill perfectly that I really like, which is from Demco: - Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler # DM16680-52 The reason I like this Demco coupler so much is because of its super easy to use latch system, called an eZ-Latch, which just stays closed all the time, until the coupler goes over the hitch ball and it just snaps on. • How to Measure Trailer Frame Angle for Coupler
You'd just have to physically go out to your trailer and measure the angle.
