Weight Distributing Hitch

Create a stable ride for your tow vehicle and trailer with a weight-distribution hitch. Adding spring bars to your towing system applies leverage, which transfers the load that is pushing down on the rear of your vehicle to all the axles on both your tow vehicle and your trailer, resulting in an even distribution of weight throughout. The result is a smooth, level ride, as well as the ability to tow the maximum capacity of your hitch.

Selecting a Weight Distribution System

The tongue weight rating is the most important factor in determining which size weight distribution system you should use. If the bars of the system you choose are rated too high for your setup, they will create a rigid ride, which can result in a bouncing trailer. If, on the other hand, the bars are not rated high enough, the system will be unable to properly distribute the weight, rendering it virtually useless.

To determine the proper weight rating for a weight distribution system, you must first determine your trailer's tongue weight. Then add to that the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. These two measurements make up the tongue weight rating for a weight distribution system.

The hitch has worked great. etrailer has been really good to buy from.

I had an L shaped weight distribution hitch before I bought this Curt model from E trailer. If you the coop ape the two the older one wS easier to operate. The Pins that lock the chain brackets in please are difficult to remove and adding wd40 does not help also this new one seems to be lower to the ground,, making me bend over and sometimes or even get to my knees to hook it up .My wife used to be able to help me with the older one the new one she is not able so I do both sides myself . Also the part that connects to the truck you need to hold it sideways then flip the the release up and maneuver it he top 2 tabs into place , lot more work than the L shaped one I had. It’s ok otherwise.

Happy with the product. Had the trailer company set up the hitch on my Tundra with out a hitch!!! Ha.

Still working great!!!

Your torsion bar hitch and service were impecable. The people at Husky Cargo trailer in Florida that built the car hauler should take lessons on how to build a trailer and treat paying customers.

by:

My weight distribution hitch worked perfectly. It was very easy to install and the instructions made it simple to adjust for the weight I was pulling. The sway control that I received was great as well holding me steady on the highway, even with strong cross-winds. An impressive product that I would definitely recommend.

by:

I have a 2016 F150 4x4 that I leveled and I'm pulling a V-nose enclosed car trailer. The shank that came with the hitch won't allow me to level the trailer. So I ordered a 12 inch drop shank to allow me to level the trailer. I thought the one came with it would work . I will give further review once I receive the new shank.

by:

Works Great, excellent service

by:

Installed on 14,500 rated trailer pulled 1400 miles round trip no issues, no sway, truck and trailer leveled out for a smooth ride.

by:

I’ve used this hitch as and RV Transporter for a year now and this is a great weight distribution hitch at a great price!

by:

have has this hitch for over a year now and have had zero issues. It is used exclusively to pull my 28 foot travel trailer. Heavy duty and easy to use.

by:

Easier to use then another brand. Only problem was that somehow I bent one of torsion bar retaining clips. Was afraid I would ruin it trying to straighten it out but didn't. I use a colored zip tie to mark the proper chain link to eliminate guessing.

by:

Unfortunately, I have not been able to put my new towing system to use yet. However, the product was delivered very quickly, and shipping was free. Very satisfied with how easily the parts were to assemble. Great experience, so far, with etrailer.com

by:

works great!

by:

I appreciate that the hitch was sent out within a few hours of it being ordered.

by:

Like your product, but the packaging leaves a lot to be desired. This is the second one we bought and both were delivered in broken damaged boxes. Luckily all the parts were there. Thanks for the quick delivery.

by:

I ordered the wrong system and had to order longer bars, they worked perfectly.

by:

  • Does the Curt Weight Distribution and Sway Control System Come with Everything Needed
Yes, the Curt Weight Distribution System, # C17322, comes with everything you will need including the shank and a ball. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. You will want to make sure that this is the best system for your needs. Weight distribution systems should be selected based on the tongue weight of the trailer plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. This system has a tongue weight capacity range of 800 to 1,000...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution For Small Enclosed 2700 lb Trailer
Anytime the trailer's weight will be greater than half the weight of the vehicle, using a weight distribution hitch is recommended. Having the trailer's tongue weight compress the rear suspension of the vehicle unloads the front suspension which throws off the aim of your headlights and can negatively affect braking and steering performance. If the hitch on your Edge is rated for weight distribution (check the capacity on the sticker placed on the hitch. It should list a GTW and a Weight...

  • Weight of Curt Short Arm Weight Distribution System When Installing In Hitch
The total weight of the Curt Short Arm weight distribution system part # C17322 is 107 lbs, but you have to consider that the frame brackets stay permanently mounted to the trailer as well as the friction sway control unit. Also, the spring bars can detach from the head of the system too which allows you to take the system apart in pieces that are very reasonable in weight. So each of the bars are going to weigh around 14 lbs, and then the head and shank will weigh right at 40 lbs as they...

  • Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a Starcraft Centennial Trailer and 2007 Honda Odyssey
The Reese system # C17322 that you have referenced is for trailers that have a tongue weight capacity between 800 and 1,000 pounds. This system is probably too heavy for your pop up trailer and you will experience a stiff ride. From the research I did, the camper will have a tongue weight of around 375 pounds. You then need to add to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the van to get the total tongue weight. I recommend a system that is rated for 200 to 600 pounds...

The weight of any gear stowed behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle also needs to be considered as tongue weight. I have linked you to an FAQ article that shows a few ways to determine the tongue weight. You will need to ensure that the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer does not exceed the 1,000 lb maximum...

  • Is Curt 1,000 Pound Weight Distribution System Rated too High for 6,250 Pound Boat Trailer
Curt weight distribution system # C17322 is rated for 800 to 1,000 pounds tongue weight so it would be overkill for your trailer unless you also have weight behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle that increases the tongue weight to at least 800 pounds. There is a similar Curt system, # C17330, rated for 500 to 600 pounds tongue weight and another, # C17331, rated for 600 to 800 pounds. To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set...

Then to that you would add the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight.
