The Curt C45785 1.25 inch to 2 inch hitch adapter seems well-constructed, but does NOT fit the current SPA Volvo OEM 1.25 inch automatic retractable hitch receptacle (mine is on a 2020 V60 Cross country). The lock pin hole doesn't go back far enough to accommodate the pin -- see photo.

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like you need one a tad bit bigger like item # HTAD.

Great product from an even greater company. ETRAILER has the knowledge and products to solve most any trailering problem.

Works great. Easy to attach and remove. Secure mount.

It did what I'm supposed to do and you can't ask for anything more than that

Working fine

by:

Needed the adaptor for a bike rack and works great but with a few issues. It is does add several inches so need to be careful backing up, in parking spaces, and can bottom out (our driveway has a dip). Same bike rack on newer car did not need an adaptor and avoids these issues.

by:

Excellent!

by:

This works great with my hitch to extend out behind my car and also expand to the 2” size for by bike rack. The fit was just slightly loose so I put a couple of strips of duct tape on 2 sides to eliminate the “play” inside the hitch. Works perfectly.

Please be aware that using the adapter/extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

Wish I had known that it didn't come with a pin to lock it in place, but I had one from another bike rack. Only other issue is the excessively tight fit in the receiver, but prefer that over too loose. Is a solid piece of metal and looks like it will hold up well.

It sounds like you need a 2 hitch pin for the 2 portion of this adapter. For that I recommend locking pin part # e98880 to help protect your setup. If you needed a pin for the 1-14 side of the adapter I recommend part # e98879. You can also get these keyed alike.

by:

No complaints. I've only used it a couple of times as we have changed our bike rack to work with the smaller hitch, but when we do need to carry more bikes on the larger rack this adapter does the trick.

by:

Nice quality.

by:

It has worked as expected for a year. I attach a bike tray rack that weights about 40 pounds and two bikes which weigh about 30 pounds each and use this on several multi-week mountain bike road trips in the southwestern U.S. I go on some rather rough roads.

by:

The hitch adapter and 90 degree mount solved my desire to mount my electric wench on my auto trailer replacing the manual wench. See photo.

The 2" sleeve would not come out of the existing 2" receiver so I used the hitch adapter to make the transition. The etrailer experts correctly told me there would be some play in this joint. However, it works here (as this is not for towing).

I also used the 90 degree mount upside down (also not an approved application). But again no towing is involved. I did need to drill a new hole in the receiver.

by:

While this seems to be a sturdy, well-made product, it is not the optimum set-up for a Subaru Outback equipped with a factory-installed 1.25" hitch.
Quite simply, the pin hole drilled in the 1.25" section is not where it should be. In order for it to line up with the hole in the Subaru hitch, the hole would need to be another 1.5" or so closer to the "rear". Not that this doesn't work, for it does--- but with the unit sticking out yet another 1.5" or so from the hitch. To remedy this, I drilled another half inch hole into the unit where it should be located. Now it works great, but it took considerable effort (and a $20 titanium drill bit) to get it right.
Again, this unit will work in a Subaru Outback without drilling another hole in it; it's just not optimal.

by:

I purchased the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter (C45785), the Hitch Pin 1/2" x 3 1/2 (12H), and the MaxxTow Hitch Pin and Clip with Oversize Grip - 2" Hitches - 5/8" Diameter - 3-5/8" Long (MT70053).
They arrived earlier then expected and work perfectly! The quality is better then I expected. Thank You!!!

by:

Does not fit the 1 1/4 receiver on our standard, factory-installed hitch on 2010 Ford Escape. Width of the 11/4” bar seems OK. Height is oversize and on one side is about 1/32 over size. From an end view the bar even looks slightly out of square.

Bought a 1 1/4” Curt Ball mount from eTrailer recently for the same vehicle that fits perfectly. But will have to return this adaptor.

by:

Great service and speedy delivery. Have not had to use it yet because of other issues associated with new bike rack but I really appreciate the extremely comprehensive selection of hitch related items.

by:

I have a car with 2" hitch and one with 1.25" hitch. This is a great adapter and less expensive than buying two bicycle racks to fit 2" and 1.25" hitches. Adapter is short enough and fit is good enough that it doesn't wobble too much.

by:

This wasn't deep enough to fit my bike rack, but a few minutes later with the saw I was in business. Would likely be perfect for m9st applications.

by:

We wanted the latest part to adapt our new hitch to be able to accept a Thule bike rack. The new part is perfect.

by:

Heavy steel and as pictured. The two inch interfaces very loosely compared to my other hitch with same bike rack. Rattling down the road I'll go! Also, in case you are interested the adapter DOES NOT come with a pin (That's a separate purchase and a bit of a surprise). I'm weighing the purchase of a 1 1/4" rack to snug things up as I ride daily. If so check my recycling bin for this gem.

by:

Great product. Perfect for my 2014 Mini Countryman S with 1-1/4" receiver paired with my Allen bike rack (2" opening). Thank you etrailer.

  • 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Hitch Adapter that Bike Rack with 3 inch Long Shank Fits
I have a solution for you, but the distance from the hitch pin hole of the Curt adapter part # C45785 to the back of the hitch opening is 2.55 inches so it would not be deep enough for your bike rack. Instead we have the Brophy hitch adapter part # HTAD which has a distance of 3-1/8 inches from the pin hole to back of the hitch opening so it would be your best option.

  • Best Way to Convert Yakima HoldUp to 1-1/4 inch Hitch Size
You can use hitch adapters like the # C45785 to carry a bike rack but you should note that doing so does cut the hitch capacity by 50 percent so it's not typically the best option. While we do have an anti-rattle option for you, there isn't an anti-rattle hitch pin that will work with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 1-1/4" (Class II) to 2" # C45785. The best option that will reduce the rattle with this adapter is the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches # RM-061-125. This will attach to your hitch and you'll tighten the U-bolt, which in turn will tighten the adapter to ensure a quieter, rattle-free ride. I have added a link below to a video...

To keep using your 1Up bike rack you can use a hitch expander like our part # C45785. • Effects on Weight Capacity from Using Hitch Adapters
Hitch adapters can be a convenient way to join accessories of different sizes, such as allowing use of a 2-inch hitch bike rack or towing ball mount in a smaller 1-1/4-inch hitch. An example of such an item is the Curt # C45785. The "dark side" of hitch adapters like these is that they also unavoidably reduce your hitch's capacity by 50-percent because they move the actual load that is on the hitch further away. This greater distance translates into more leverage applied to the hitch...
