Features:

  • Strap provides extra support for your hitch receiver when you use a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier
    • Limits torque placed on hitch receiver by heavy accessory
    • Evenly distributes weight to stabilize hitch accessory and prevent bouncing
  • Cam buckle design allows for quick connection and release
    • Attach one end to the bike rack and the other end to the vehicle
    • Pull strap through the cam buckle and towards front of the vehicle to increase tension for a secure fit
  • Vinyl-coated hook won't scratch your vehicle

Specs:

  • Dimensions: 61" long x 1" wide
  • Quantity: 1 strap

Note: Remove the hook before opening or closing the hatch or trunk to avoid damage to your vehicle.

This strap is recommended for use with bike racks and other hitch-mounted accessories to avoid putting too much strain on your trailer hitch. Some Class I and Class II 1-1/4" hitches may require that you use a stabilizing strap to ensure that the hitch does not experience excessive torque while transporting your gear.

by:

The Cam buckle keeps the bike rack from bouncing, so I would assume (I know) that should put less stress on the bike rack over time.

by:

Your install videos rock!
Great selection
of products, with lots of honest reviews.
Excellent support with domestically based agents.

by:

I love how this fits in the top of the hatch. Store my cargo carrier from rattling when either loaded or empty. Bought 2 because we transfer the carrier to another vehicle sometimes.

by:

I use use a Curt Hitch "Flat Carrier"
https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Cargo-Carrier/Curt/C18110.html
for
loads on my 2005 Prius.
Bought the recommended support strap and liked the way it took the up-down bounce stress off the hitch, but the carrier still wobbled left to right, rotating slightly within the hitch receiver. Bought a second strap and the two stabilized the load very nicely. I needed a light cord between the two straps at the top of the hatch door to encourage them not to slide off the corners of the door.

I am quite pleased with our flat carrier. We keep the loads low enough & centered enough to not block the brake lights and the license plate. Weve used it to carry bikes as well.

by:

This strap is easy to use and I appreciate the peace of mind I have while driving knowing there is extra support of my hitch mounted bike rack. The Velcro fastener makes it easy to bundle the strap’s “tail” so it doesn’t drag while driving.

by:

Can hold my five bikes easily

They
are hybrid trail bikes.

Have to check weight limit for 5th bike.

I bought two stabilizer straps just for piece of mind. They certainly won't hurt

by:

Purchased this strap as a backup support for the bike rack that I will be using with my new etrailer hitch.

by:

I've been using the hitch for my bike rack and it has been performing as expected. Absolutely no problems. A little harder to install than expected, but with a little help from friends it is still where it belongs.

by:

The strap helped to stabilize the bike rack .. Strong & sturdy .. If you get the bike rack & hitch spend the extra for this ... Worked great on my 2013 vw beetle convertible ..

It still works perfect .. very happy

by:

Gives you that little extra stability.I like it.

by:

Outstanding product. The stitching and material are heavy duty. Looks great on my Honda Accord and Thule bike rack. Thanks!

Rating the best. Super good company to deal with.

by:

My purchase was an easy choice with advice I received from customer service. The hitch is working great no problems. You can't go wrong making your purchase from etrailer.

Product works great just like day 1. I look forward to many years of use when maintained properly.

by:

simple and effective. Works as advertised. Actually one of the better stabilization straps on the market. the buckle is strong and has a durable non marking coating. I'd recommend buying 3 at a time (two to stabilize to an overkill level, and one backup because you know how life is)

Continues to perform as intended

by:

We were very impressed with the quality of the Curt Trailer hitch we purchased, its price and how quickly it arrived.
We had the hitch installed by a very good local mechanic for a fraction of the cost quoted by our Honda dealer.
The hitch support strap that was recommended works perfectly with this hitch.
We highly recommend this hitch to anyone.

by:

Install was very easy, instructions were clear.

Be sure to use WD-40 to loosen up the muffler attachments. That one step alone made this job easier than I expected.

This hitch is used to attach a goal post, so I can carry my kayaks on top.

Great customer service, the best.

by:

We received a damaged box, damaged items, no instructions, the nuts and bolts are completely stripped and not inside a bag. This was obviously used, returned, not checked for quality and sent out. We are extremely upset.

Oh my goodness! I will have our Customer Service team reach out as soon as possible. We can have replacements sent out.

by:

Was an easy install, Matched right up

by:

Just finished about a 300 mile round-trip and the strap definitely helps stabilize the hitch-mounted bike rack. The only issue was that the angle of the clip was too much for the hatch on my Golf GTI so I had to bend it a little to get it to fit.

Etrailer Expert

Katrina B.

4/3/2023

Bending the clips will cause the straps to potentially lose their capacity.

by:

Box to hitch 1 minute.
2 ebikes and
ready to roll 10 minutes.
A whole new world has opened up. This is absolutely the easiest, most versatile rack ever. At 65, my days of putting a light bike on a roof rack are over. This will handle almost anything.
The service and attention to detail was amazing. The eTrailer team seems like friends at the local bike shop. BUY IT HERE!
Gotta go, mountains to ride.

by:

FAST EASY VERY SATISFIED

by:

We used our new hitch thanks to etrailer.com !

The bike rake fit perfectly .. we used the support strap too!

Off we go!

by:

I've used etrailer.com before, and the service is excellent. The step-by-step video showing the receiver installation on my model year car was extremely helpful.

by:

Quality of the hitch is excellent. Bolts in rear could use 4 sleeves. More difficult to instal due to alignment of bumper and the cover which had to be removed before holes could be drilled. Lift was very helpful. Took about 3.5 hrs. to install correctly.

by:

Great rack. Easy to use.

by:

Haven’t used it yet but I am sure it will do the job. Seems well built/designed and with e bikes weighing so much, the additional weight distribution will certainly help.

  • Recommended Trailer Receiver Hitch For 2004 Infiniti FX35
Adding a trailer hitch to your 2004 Infiniti FX35 to accommodate a Thule bike rack will absolutely work. I recommend going with Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13558. This will be tucked neatly under the bumper of your vehicle, providing a clean look while preventing anyone from hitting their leg on it. Curt does require Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap for Hitch-Mounted Accessories # 18050 to be used on non-trailered loads, such as a bike rack. The installation...

  • Should I Use Bike Rack Stabilizing Strap on my Subaru Outback
Hi, great question and the short answer is no. While per manufacturers specs it is not required to use a stabilizing strap with the Draw-Tite # 36493, use of one is a judgement call that really depends on your situation. Please consider the weight of bike rack and the load being carried, I would also consider the terrain; how rough of a ride are you inflicting on the load? If you decide to take the added precaution, I recommend the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap for Hitch-Mounted...

Since there are no specific instructions on how to install the Support Strap # 18050 you can get a little creative. If you are afraid of damaging the spoiler on your 2015 Subaru Outback Wagon then I recommend installing the clip part of the strap in the bottom side of the trunk as seen here in the attached image by one of our other customers. Or try using the safety chain loops on the hitch itself. The goal being to minimize the torque placed on the hitch through movement, bouncing etc.

To add extra height to the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75717, I recommend the Malone 2" Dual Purpose Hitch Receiver # MPG544. If you install the bike rack on the top receiver, it will give you an additional 7-1/2 inches of height for the ground clearance when you add on the 2-bike extension. With the extension, there is a 50% decrease in tongue weight. With the Draw-Tite Max E-Loader # 75717, the new tongue weight capacity will be 262 pounds. If you need stabilizing...

If your X5 with the M package includes the backup sensors you won't be able to use the ECO-hitch so you need to go with the Curt # 13077 which has been confirmed for use on the 2015 BMW X5 M Sport or M performance. For your 2007 Matrix XR you will need to use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12013 which is the only confirmed fit for your vehicle made by Curt, and as you can see in the picture I included, it will install very close to the rear bumper to give you plenty of ground clearance. • Can I Haul 3 Bikes on 2016 Honda HR-V with Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11416
I understand that when you do the math it doesn't seem to make sense but the reasoning behind why a Class I hitch is limited to 2 bikes is due more to the leveraging effect opposed to the actual weight of the added bike. Due to the low tongue weight capacity of a Class I hitch, the bike rack and the hitch manufacturers both agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on a Class I hitch.
