This is great cargo basket: solid and secure, easy assembly, well designed. The angled neck keeps the basket well away from the ground; I haven’t had any problems with it bottoming out. My first use was actually on a trip back from Florida following Powered Paragliding training. I was intending to bring back just a Paramotor (which would have stood vertically inside the basket), but ended up bringing back a whole Trike assembly! Mounted it on the basket as shown, and it rode just fine back through four states. Got a lot of looks on the way home!
I concur with an earlier reviewer that a neat trick is to use a stabilizer strap from the hitch to the corner of the basket. There is plenty of slop in the receiver when the neck is inserted, and a short ratcheting tie down cancels the rattle effectively. I’m very pleased with this purchase; and while I don’t plan to haul around anything as big as that trike, I look forward to many more years of use from it!

First look - not yet loaded up. Ordered this because the less expensive Curt (C18110) was out of stock. It seems like a worthwhile upgrade anyway, with rounded corners and better tie-down options.

Finish seems high quality. Significant play exists in the hitch receiver (Curt C11276 - gap visible in photo) to the point that I ordered a hitch immobilizer and don't plan to test the carrier with a full load until that's installed.

This Reese Cargo Carrier worked great! Our adult daughter put it together herself with no problems. It worked great on the back of our Subaru Outback on our weeklong trip. We look forward to using it for many more years.

by:

Very happy with the product and the top-notch service and support from etrailer. The cargo carrier is well-built, looks good, and was easy to assemble. We've traveled over 5,000 miles with it over the past two months. The upward-curved attachment rod is a plus for our low-riding Mazda 3 hatchback; we've only scraped a few times so far and the carrier was unscathed. Good results. Pro tips: get a ratchet strap and secure one side of the carrier to the rear tow hook on your car - this adds great stability (no wobbling); also consider some reflective tape.

by:

Would have been much if the cargo carrier was made in the USA; however it works great and fit great

Works great. I carry generator on Reese Cargo Carrier. Haven’t had any problems.

by:

Good quality construction and materials. Easy to assemble.Works like it should.

by:

I'm very happy with the cargo carrier. Assembly was simple (get ahold of 2 ratchet wrenches if you can) and the unit is sturdy and appears well made. I had an old carrier that didn't have the raised arm and it was constantly scraping the ground when going up and down curb cuts like driveways and such. This design is much better. Also, this carrier has tons of tie-down locations which is very important. And etrailer is a great company to deal with -- fair pricing and great service. I purchased several items from them over the years and have always been very satisfied .

by:

Everything arrived super quick. Plus the sale prices were amazing. Couldn't be happier.

by:

Here are a couple pix of the cargo carrier I ordered & installed on my 1988 Corvette. Feel free to use them in your advertisements.

by:

Easy to assemble plus the angled shank gave me just enough clearance on my 2017 Bolt when backing out of driveway.

by:

I haven't used it yet but the assembly was very easy. Videos on the website were excellent. Only issue was it was shipped separate from the rest of my order. A quick email to customer service and everything was great.

Used the carrier on a trip. Worked out perfectly. Small enough to not be in the way yet large enough to hold what needed

fit in hitch could be tighter. On man said push it to the hilt and drill the hole for the lock while its not teetering. Possibly run one in and add an extra hole?

Like many of you I read all the reviews about this Cargo Carrier (63155) Light kit (20174), and net (7330) some were negative some were positive. Here is what I found with my order. When I first opened the box I found everything I ordered was in the box, however prior to receiving this package I had an email sent from one off the employees letting me know the order was packed everything was in stock and was shipped with the tracking information. (I was impressed with this and was impressed even more when a different employee sent me an email to let me know that the package was delivered so I knew to look for it when I got Home.) Ok so the Cargo carrier a real nice thick coat of black glossy paint. Looks great. There was a small amount of assembly which didn't require reading the enclosed direction because it was very obvious what went where. Very nice carrier. The light kit was packed in a bag if you read the reviews some were complaining about not enough wire and wire ties (tie straps) I found there was plenty of each but you will need to plan out the routing before you use your tie straps. The light kit is very easy to install took 4-5 minutes. The light kit is in my opinion an important add on because of the vehicle lights being partially or even fully blocked when the cargo carrier is loaded it offers brake, turn signal, and running lights the same as your vehicle would do. I highly recommend it. lastly the cargo net it really cool the hooks are easier to put on then the video online shows them to be. Overall if you need a carrier that is a class II 20 X 48 1 1/4" this is an excellent buy both price and quality.

Still loving it!

Just right!!! It works great.

Bought this cargo carrier a year ago for our 2017 Buick Encore. We were moving from Tennessee to North Dakota and I needed just a little more hauling space. What I love about this hitch mounted carrier is the angled post that sticks into the hitch. The hitch on a 2017 Encore is already pretty low to the ground, so having this increase in height is very welcome. I stowed up to 6 large Rubbermaid totes on this carrier with no problem. Just took a trip last month with only 3 and this still allowed me to open the back hatch without taking the totes off. Great product, easy to assemble and turns a small SUV into a very capable vehicle.

by:

Hitch Cargo Carrier allows me to carrier allows me to carry several fuel containers outside my vehicle avoiding probable spills and fumes. The carrier rides high which keeps it from bottoming out when I travel over dips and small ditches.
It has a slight wobble even with the special hitch pin I purchased. However this has presented no actual problems.
This carrier is heavy and I consider it a good investment.

by:

I love my cargo carrier! Still working great - even a year after purchase! I have recommended your company to a few people who have asked about my product. Thank you!

Still use my cargo carrier and hitch on the regular. The only thing I have noticed is the screws are starting to rust a little, but it still works great! I have no complaints. Great product.

by:

I bought this carrier a year ago and it continues to perform well. I use it on an 07 Toyota Solara. I had previous carriers that were too low to the ground when loaded and it bottomed out. This one also has a rise to it and it never bottoms out. I actually called and spoke to customer service and they recommended getting this one and actually helped even more by explaining since it was the correct size for my receiver and I didnt have to use an adapter anymore, that i could use its full weight load. This was the solution. Also keep in mind the positioning of your exhaust, if you add a bag and go on a long trip, it could melt, but that is not due to the design of this product. Its an opportunity for all. I would recommend this item.

by:

Quality product.

by:

ENTIRE UNIT IS NOT CORROSION RESISTANCE. SEE PICTURE

Etrailer stated "hardware is not covered under the warranty as the hardware is not corrosion resistance" and recommended i contact their manufacturer.

Very disappointed.

by:

Easy to assemble, good construction. Wish it was made in the U.S.A. Thusly, 4 instead of 5 stars.

  • Will Yakima Swinging Cargo Carrier Fit Class II Hitch Installed on 2017 Mazda CX-5
Since your 2017 Mazda CX-5 has a Class II hitch installed on it that means the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # Y62VR will not fit. It is only compatible with class III and IV hitches with 2" receivers. We do not have any enclosed cargo carriers that will work with a 1-1/4" hitch, but we do have a carrier for you. You could use a traditional carrier like the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs # 63155. I attached a review video...

The Pro Series Cargo Carrier # 63155 that you referenced has a distance of 11 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the nearest edge of the cargo carrier. So it should work on your 2012 Chevy Malibu since you have a distance of 7-1/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin to the furthest edge of the rear bumper.

  • Can the etrailer Trailer Hitch Cargo Carrier be Used with a 1-1/4 to 2 Inch Hitch Expander Adapter
The use of an adapter, like # HTAD, to use a 2 inch accessory in a 1-1/4 inch hitch can be done. However, you will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. For example if your hitch has a tongue weight rated at 200 pounds, by using the adapter it is reduced to 100 pounds. Then you have to subtract the weight of the carrier, about 60 pounds, which means you could only carry 40 pounds. The best option is to go with a carrier designed to fit in a 1-1/4 inch receiver....

If the cargo carrier and the cargo loaded on it do not obscure the vehicle tail lights, you do not have to have a light kit installed on the carrier. However, it is still a good idea to get a light kit for safety purposes.
