This was exactly what I needed to make my hitch work on a Grand Caravan. The adjustable hitch was too close to the bumper after installing the Curt receiver hitch.

You will want to keep in mind that using an extender will reduce the capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

The extender worked as expected. No iss ues

by:

This thing is an absolute beast! well made and solid, with an exceptional finish. Worked as advertised and cleared the spare tire on my Wrangler such that our bike rack could be installed correctly. An exceptional product!

by:

The hitch extension is heavy duty and I’m extremely happy with the quality. Service was superb and received the product in 2 days. Happy, happy, happy. Before and after photos are included.

I just wanted to provide you with a heads-up that using an extender like the # C45791 will reduce the capacity of your receiver hitch by 50 percent, as mentioned on the product page.

by:

The shaft length of a standard insert for a receiver hitch was too short to allow towing a 96 gallon trash can because the trash can lid was wedged against the tailgate of the ATV. The hitch extender has added sufficient length that the lid hinge can be dropped onto the trailer ball without being wedged against the tailgate.

Still working as intended with no downtime or difficulties.. also useful as an easy tiedown point when transporting the atv on a flatbed trailer.

by:

Great. Extended my hitch just enough to keep my truck bumper from hitting my v-nose trailer. It greatly reduces the weight ratio, but length works out great.

Actually I bought a superduty and took extender out. Went with new B&W hitch on new truck. But the extender worked great on the f150

by:

I purchased this extension to use with my front end Curt Class 3 receiver hitch. This setup was installed for use of my Warn Wench that is installed in a portable receiver cradle that I use on either the front or rear of my truck. I chose this extension because of the solid shank that made it stronger than most other I shopped. As all extensions reduce the hitch weight rating, this one provided the least amount of reduction. I am very happy with my purchase and it works as advertised.

by:

Heavy metal, fit current hitch well. Good extention for Thule bike rack.

by:

Great product, excellent website, very user friendly (the "how to" videos were especially helpful in making sure the product I was ordering was the right one), highly responsive customer relations department. The hitch extender worked correctly the first time, and fits perfectly with my new Thule bike rack (see photos). I highly recommend eTrailer!

by:

super fast shipping and worked perfect as described this was for my personal lowered c-10 1970 step side I wanted my hitch hidden behind the lic plate and was having some clearance issues with the plate as it had to flip up not down to clear my hitch We use the m a,lot at work for hitches trailer parts ect with supply chain issues they take the time to call you and offer other solutions if not in stock for your on online orders excellent customer service

by:

I got this for my side by side as the receiver was mounted too far underneath the unit to be practical. This adapter moved it out to just the right spot. I use my SxS to move my trailers around my property mostly, & it works great.

by:

Received the 8” extension and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Matches up nicely with the Curt hitch on my SUV. Now I need not worry about how closely my trailers come to the rear end. Fast delivery and great support.

by:

Put a receiver underneath my travel trailer and I needed to Ring the receiver out 8 inches from underneath the trailer and it fit perfect and it’s heavy duty And with the anti-rattle device I got from etrailer it works perfect.

by:

This extender worked perfectly. It is the perfect length to clear the spare tire on my Jeep. I haven’t noticed any problems with the additional tongue weight that this supposedly adds. It’s a better solution than removing my spare tire. I’m pulling a 17.5 foot bass boat.

by:

Works well, allows for oversized spare tire on the back of the Jeep to clear the teardrop trailer tongue jack.

*** Packaging was horrible. Placed in a cardboard box w/ no packing material, box was destroyed on arrival, and damaged / chipped paint. If you are going to charge us for shipping at least package the product so it will not be destroyed in normal shipping ***

Thank you for your review and I apologize about the shipping damage. Customer Service will be reaching out to you.

by:

Waited to answer, pkg arrived empty, called etrailer to advise, you shipped replacement right away and it has arrived. Thank you so much

by:

Way too much play between it and the receptacle. I use it for a bicycle rack and the whole thing wobbles too much. I still use it, but it's unnerving.

by:

Great product, very heavy duty. Allowed me to mount bike rack behind a large Jeep tire. Easy ordering and quick shipping.

by:

As usual you always have what I need. Thank you also for rapid, reasonable shipping.

by:

Didn't work for my jeep because of the 35 inch tire attached to the tailgate.

by:

Both products excellent.

by:

Well made and finished. It was exactly what I needed. The product was delivered earlier than promised. I like doing business with eTrailer.

by:

Perfect. !! I have a 2017 Ford Expedition and I needed this for my front hitch.

by:

I'm sure the product was good as etrailer is always excellent. But when we got back two of the pieces were in the box but the curt hitch extender was not. The box had a hole in it and was tapped over. Who knows what happened.

  • Recommended Bike Rack Solution for a 2017 Toyota Tundra with Less Than 8 From the Hitch Pin Hole
If you have less than 8" of clearance from the hitch pin hole of your 2017 Toyota Tundra, then you have thee choices. For the Hollywood Racks Destination, part # HR4000, to be used, you can remove the spare tire. Or, you can keep the spare tire on and use a hitch extender like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long, part # C45791. It will give 8" of additional clearance, but it will reduce your tongue weight by 50%. Finally, you can opt for another bike rack with a...

  • Which Hitch Extender will Give a Jeep Wrangler Additional Clearance to Install Bike Rack
Most commonly with Jeep Wrangler the hitch extender part # 13432 does the trick as it adds 8 additional inches to the hitch tube. But that will depend on the bike rack you have and how much clearance your setup calls for. You should note that hitch extenders do cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed on in half. I attached a review video that shows the extender being used on a Wrangler just like yours.

  • How Can Longer Ball Mount Not Reduce Hitch Weight Capacity
Technically any additional length is going to increase leverage on the trailer hitch. But there isn't an exact standard length ball mount so going super technical on how much the force multiplied when the ball mount is beyond a certain length is just not something our manufacturers do. So when you combine that with fact that most ball mounts are not that much longer than others the tongue weight capacity of a vehicle is not reduced when using a longer ball mount like the part # 80232....

  • Recommendation For Hitch Extender To Carry Thule Apex Bike Rack With 2018 Jeep Rubicon JL
Before I can recommend a hitch extension, I need to find out the actual extension needed. You will need to measure from the hitch pin hole to the rear edge of your spare tire to see how much length is needed for clearance of your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. You will then need to determine the clearance needed by your bike rack by measuring the distance from center of hitch pin hole to the closest part of the bike rack. The difference is the extension size that you need (see article)....

  • Hitch & Ball Mount for 2002 Jeep Wrangler to Clear Spare Tire
You can avoid clearance issues between your 2002 Jeep Wrangler's rear-mounted spare tire and your towing ball mount by using a ball mount long enough that will extend past the rear edge of the tire. The 2-inch hitch I suggest for your 2002 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is Curt # 13408. This is a no-drill bolt-on installation. When we installed a Class III hitch on your vehicle we found that the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear of the spare tire was 6-1/4-inches. Once it is installed...

I may have another option for you depending on how long of an extension you are needing, but all of the hitch extensions we offer for the 2" trailer hitch receiver on your 2021 Entegra Odysset 26' Motorhome have a max towing capacity of 3500lbs which will not be enough for the weight of your trailer plus the three Harley's you are planning on towing. • Do All Trailer Hitch Extenders Reduce Capacity by 50 Percent
The reason there are differences in the amount hitch extenders reduce the capacity of the hitch is because there isn't a 100% exact science for each length, it's more of a general rule. Technically, each length will reduce it a different percentage, and you are correct we are being conservative by saying they all reduce hitch capacity by 50 percent. This is to keep expectations in place and prioritize safety. But it's a bit silly to have a magic number of 12 inches. Say you have a hitch...

Yes! The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HLY84FR definitely works with your wife's e-bike with fenders. This is because the frame-mount attachment style completely bypasses the need to attach to the wheels. With this factor, you avoid any unnecessary risk of damage to the fenders during transport. • Bike Rack for Travel Trailer to Clear Rear Spare
I have a great bike rack solution for your travel trailer that will clear your rear spare but we do not recommend using a hitch extender with bike racks at the rear of travel trailers due to the very harsh ride quality at the rear of them. Instead we have the Swagman Trailhead part # S63381 which has 9-1/2 inches of clearance between the pin hole and the back of the racks upright mast which will easily clear your spare since you need at least 8 inches.

  • Can Curt Multi-Fit Hitch 13703 Tow Car on Tow Dolly
You could use an 8 inch hitch extension like the part # C45791 to gain the additional length you need. This would work well with a tow dolly and the Curt hitch # 13703 that you referenced. It would be a good idea if the tow dolly had brakes. We have tow dollies that have brakes like the Roadmaster Tow Dolly part # RM-2050-1. The odd thing about this dolly though is that you have to wire a 7-way to it so that the brakes are active. For that you'd need the part # HS381-9000.

It weighs about 50lbs and can handle 60lbs per bike. Before grabbing an extender I do recommend confirming the distance between the center hole to the bumper is 8". • Hitch Extender for Carrying Bike Rack in Hitch on 2004 Jeep Wrangler
Let me begin by saying that Yakima isn't fond of using hitch extenders with their bike racks. This being said, using an extender will lower the hitch tongue weight capacity by half. If your hitch has a 350 lb tongue weight capacity (check the ID sticker on the hitch) using the extender would lower that by half to 175 lbs, which means that the weight of the bike rack and the bikes couldn't exceed 175 lbs.
