Curt Trailer Brake Controller Only Works with Manual Override on a 2014 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I have a tundra 2014 I purchesed part # C24VV and also the correct adapter for my truck. Hooked it all up which was very easy but when I apply the brake pedal trailer brakes dont work. When I hit the brakes the unit only displays the # 05 thats it but when I use the manual lever trailer brakes work perfect. The lights, blinkers and brake lights work fine dont know what the problem could be hopefully you can help. Thanks in advance.

When a brake controller works with the manual lever but not with the brake pedal that usually indicates a problem on the red wire. The red wire is the input wire that tells the controller you are stepping on the brake pedal.
The most common issue with the red wire is actually a blow stop light or CHMSL fuse. Use the owners manual to find the stop light or CHMSL fuse to check it.
You will also want to test the red wire using a circuit tester such as # PTW2992. With the brake pedal pressed test the wire. If it lights up the test light then the signal is getting to the brake controller. If it is not then again it is likely a blown stop light or CHMSL fuse or you are not using the correct harness. It should be # C51362.
The instructions for the controller do state that you can mount it 70 degrees nose up to 20 degrees nose down but you will want it as level as possible for best performance. Also you will not want to have it tilted or turned to one side much if at all because that could affect performance.
I ahve included a couple of links on testing brake controllers for you.
