What is the Maximum Tongue Weight of the etrailer.com Hitch e98905?
Question:
i dont understand what tongue weight is and need some help in figuring it out before i purchase this
asked by: Allen A
Expert Reply:
Tongue weight has to do with the downward pressure being put on the hitch. With the etrailer.com hitch # e98905 having a maximum tongue weight of 900 pounds, it can technically handle a bike rack or cargo carrier combined with bikes or other gear weighing up to 900 pounds.
However, hitches are typically rated higher than the vehicle and the maximum tongue weight of the vehicle should be checked before loading to this weight. This can easily be checked by looking at the inside door jamb of the driver door. There will be a label that has all the capacities of your vehicle.
