Determining Which Hydraulic Disc Brake Kit For 2014 Karavan Boat Trailer

Question:

Would you be able to direct me to what disk break kits you have available for my 2014 Karavan Model A-60/A-75XR-84. Single axle, 6 lug, 12 rotor. Pulling a 2013 Robalo 207, 3200lbs.

I would be happy to recommend a disc brake kit for your 2014 Karavan trailer carrying a 2013 Robalo 207 but you will need to confirm the axle rating of your single axle, and the bearing combination your trailer uses.

To determine the axle capacity you will want to check the axle tag located on the center of the axle which will have the axle weight rating. If the tag is missing we can get an estimate of the axle rating by using the GVWR of the trailer.

Moving on to the bearings you will need to remove one of your current hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

For example the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 12" Hub/Rotor - 6 on 5-1/2 - Dacromet/KodaGuard - 5,200 to 6,000 lbs # K2HR526DKG use the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern your trailer uses, and is for 5200-6000lb axles using inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123.

If your trailer currently has drum brakes you will also need to replace your surge brake actuator with a disc brake model like the Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator w Electric Lockout - Bolt On - Disc - 2" Ball - Zinc - 7.5K # DX29FR.

If you can confirm your axle capacity and bearing combination I would be happy to recommend the correct disc brake kit for you.

I included a video of the # DX29FR and a link to a helpful article that goes over adding hydraulic disc brakes for you to take a look at.
