Recommended Components for Off-Road Trailer Similar to Chevy Colorado Wheels

Question:

Do you have a brake system that has a 6x120 bolt pattern? I am going to rebuild my offroad trailer and at the same time have the bolt pattern and wheels match my chevy colorado. I have a spare set of wheels/tires. But I am having a hard time finding a hub and brake set up in this bolt pattern. Id rather not run spacers as things just get wider and wider, not to mention the added cost. Worst case scenario is I find a take out rear axle from a dismantler and convert it to electric brakes. But Id prefer to run the timbren stuff.

Brake systems are not dependent on the hub bolt pattern. So you can use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA for 12 inch hub/drums or # AKEBRK-35-SA for 10 inch hub/drums. Then use # 10-1-1 wire sold by the foot for your brake magnet wiring.

There is not a trailer hub/drum that will fit your Chevy Colorado's 6x120 bolt pattern because vehicle tires and wheels are not recommended for trailer use. They have a different design and function so they often have a wheel offset and sidewall of tire that aren't ideal for trailers. I recommend looking for a tire and wheel that are similar in look to your Colorado, but sell your extra set to help offset your cost instead of using them.

My recommendation is to use the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - 4" Lift Spindle - Off-Road Tires # ASR35HDS02 and then the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-9UC3-EZ for the 6 bolt pattern that is similar but not identical to your truck. Then use the # AKEBRK-7-SA brake assembly.

For your tires and wheels, I recommend the Kenda ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" HWT Aluminum Wheel 6 on 5-1/2 - LR E - Black # AM34969B for a nice look. These are rated for 3,500 lbs and speeds up to 81 mph. They come with a 5 year warranty on the tire and a lifetime warranty against structural defects on the wheel.
