Will Aftermarket 4-Way Wiring Cause ECM Failure on a 1997 Ford Ranger
Question:
Hey experts. I am wanting to order a T-one Tekonsha adapter/converter to hook up a flat 4 system to provide trailer lights. Want it easy..no splicing. I previously used two Hopkins made converters. Both failed and after the second failure, my truck wouldn’t start. In fact failed while I was driving it. After six weeks of diagnosing found it to be a bad brain? Electronic control module. I have a feeling the Hopkins units caused a failure of my ECM. I went to two locAl places to have a wiring harness installed but they are way more expensive than your part. They also say they need to check and see what type of computer ECMis in the truck. I’m worried as to whether or not a part by Tekonsha is all I need???? Have you heard of any other “brain” failures due to the use of these adapter/converters? 1997 ford ranger

We have found the Tekonsha wiring products, like the T-One # 118325 for your 1997 Ford Ranger, to be the most reliable out of all of the wiring options we carry. With that being said if 2 different local shops are thinking that your ECM is the issue then that would not be the result of the Hopkins Wiring # 40215 (or any other wiring for that matter) and you would need to get that checked out for the T-One to operate properly.
