Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind your rear bumper on the driver's side.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Product worked as advertised; plug n' play. Have used it several times by now with no issues. Only thing I would like to point is that I paid extra for 3-day delivery on Sunday night about 1:00am and the item was delivered Thursday afternoon. Item was shipped Monday according to confirmation e-mail. I live in Orlando, FL

Per UPS terms, the pickup day is not counted as a transit day. Monday we packed and shipped the item so it was the UPS pickup date. Tue-Thurs are the 3 transit days that constitute the 3-Day delivery by UPS terms.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Lights Not Working When Connected To 1994 Ford Ranger That Work With F-150
Because your Ranger has tested good and yet your trailer does not work correctly when connected, there is a really good chance that it is a ground issue. This could be on the vehicle side, but is more likely to be on the trailer side. A faulty trailer ground could still work with a vehicle that puts more power into the trailer, so your friend's F-150 working doesn't mean that ground couldn't be faulty. I recommend checking that ground for rust and or corrosion and cleaning it up. You...

  • Will Aftermarket 4-Way Wiring Cause ECM Failure on a 1997 Ford Ranger
We have found the Tekonsha wiring products, like the T-One # 118325 for your 1997 Ford Ranger, to be the most reliable out of all of the wiring options we carry. With that being said if 2 different local shops are thinking that your ECM is the issue then that would not be the result of the Hopkins Wiring # 40215 (or any other wiring for that matter) and you would need to get that checked out for the T-One to operate properly.

  • Installing T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness On 1993 Ford Ranger
On the driver side frame rail you should be able to find the connection point that you install the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118325 to. Per the instructions you will need to use caution when separating the connector to avoid damaging the locking tabs on the connector. If you can gently pry the locking tabs up, you should be able to separate the connector with out much of a problem. You then install the T-connector to complete the installation.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1995 Ford Ranger
The Hopkins trailer wiring harness # 40215 is a fit for your 1995 Ford Ranger and it does have a converter. It is smaller and looks different than other converters. I have pointed it out in the picture I have included for you. There are no additional wiring connections (other than the white ground wire) that you will need to make if you choose this harness.

The Hopkins 40215 kit is designed to be a fit for a 2000 Ford Ranger STX model. That may be why the mismatch in the connectors as you spoke of. I am attaching a photo of the # 40215 connector we have. We pulled one from the warehouse to see how the pins were located. • Recommended Trailer Wiring on 1994 Ford Ranger Pickup
To install the Hopkins 4-Way Flat Trailer Wiring Kit - Vehicle and Trailer Ends # HM48205 you will want to check for functions. Color matching doesn't always work, so I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test each function. I've attached an article to assist. If you choose not to hardwire your system, I recommend the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 40215 which is a fit for 1993 to 1997 Ford Rangers. • Trailer Wiring Solution for 1996 Ford Ranger with Separate Turn Signs from Stop Lights
The trailer wiring kits we offer for your 1996 Ford Ranger like the Hopkins part # 40215 were designed for the type of taillights that your truck has where the turn signals are separate from the stop lights. • What is Function of Red Wire on Hopkins Trailer Wiring Kit 40215
The red wire on the input side of the converter box of the Hopkins wiring kit part # 40215 is the stoplight circuit. The converter box takes the wiring setup on your vehicle which has the stoplights and turn signals on different wires and combines them to be on the same circuit which is why the red wire does not come out the other side of the box.

  • Correct Trailer Wiring Harness for 2000 Ford Ranger
According to my Hopkins Trailer Wiring Representative, the # 40215 wiring harness you mentioned fits 1993-1999 Rangers, but not the 2000 model. This explains why it's not working correctly. For your 2000 Ranger, I'd suggest the Tow Ready # 118344 which is a confirmed fit for your truck.

  • Differences in Tow Ready and Hopkins Wiring Harnesses for Mazda B Series Pickup
The main difference between the Tow Ready # 118325 and the Hopkins # 40215 wiring harnesses is that the Hopkins # 40215 requires the harness to be grounded to the vehicle with the included self-tapping screw. The wiring harness needs to be grounded at a location where the sheet metal is doubled. I recommend the Tow Ready T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118325. • Using Trailer Lights on a 1997 Ford Ranger with Separate Turn Signals and Brake Lights
The 1997 Ford Ranger has separate turn signals and brake lights. Trailer lights have combined brake lights and turn signals. What you will need to do is use trailer wiring harness # 118325 which plugs into the factory tail light connectors on the truck (or if those are gone you can cut off the end that plugs into the vehicle and hard wire it in). If you have to cut off the end that plugs into the vehicle tail light connectors then hardwire it as follows: brown connects to vehicle running...

  • Why Does Hopkins Trailer Wiring Harness for 1997 Ford Ranger have Separate Ground Wire
Yes, the advantage is that you will get a better ground connection with an independent ground wire on a trailer wiring harness such as # 40215 for your 1997 Ford Ranger. Some converter boxes require a separate ground wire because the factory ground for the vehicle tail lights is not sufficient for the converter's needs.
