Fit of Curt Class II Hitch on 2004 Ranger XLT with Flare Sided Bed
Question:
I have a 2004 Ranger XLT with a smaller than normal size bed. It also has small flare sides. I am concerned about a proper fit for this vehicle.

The Curt Class II Trailer Hitch, part # 12012 mounts to the frame members under the rear of the bed. The frame members would be the same for that model year, regardless of the bed. You should have no fit issues with this hitch.
Keep in mind that Curt does say to use a stabilizing strap # 18050 when using this hitch to carry non-trailer loads in order to comply with the warranty.
Although the Curt is a great hitch, I recommend that my customers go with the Class III hitch when the option is available. The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Reciever # 13019 is more ecomonmically priced, and offers the more common 2 inch receiver, instead of the 1-1/4 inch that the Class II has. This will offer you more flexibility in choosing accessories, such as bike racks, cargo carriers, and ball mounts. The installation instructions for this hitch are linked to this page for you.
