Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2011 Honda Pilot without Factory Tow Package
Question:
Hello, I recently purchased, installed and used the four way wiring kit for my 2011 Honda Pilot 118491. I need to tow a 7 way round wired trailer soon and was wondering what my best course of action would be. Thanks for your support!

The easiest way to add a 7-Way to your 2011 Honda Pilot would be to use Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118253. Out of this kit, you would need to use just one of the large black relays and then replace the 4-Way you have with the 7-Way components in the kit. This is because the 4-Way kit you have installed, # 118491, already uses a lot of the same parts (see instructions).
This will work fine if you are just looking for a connector that will provide the light functions, but if the trailer has electric brakes, I recommend a different approach. You would keep the 4-Way you have and then add # ETBC7. The ETBC7 will add a function 4 and 7-Way to the vehicle and provide all of the wiring for a brake controller so you can use the trailer electric brakes. I have included links that explain a typical ETBC7 installation.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. It is one of our most popular controllers because it is easy to set up and easy to use. I have included a link to the installation details for you.
