The trim panel is removed with a wrench and socket, and no trim panel tool is required for the installation of this hitch. I have attached a link to an installation video for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C13206 you can check out. At about the 3 minute 50 second mark the installer shows how the small rubber plugs in the frame rail are removed with a small screwdriver.

When installing this hitch you will need to lower the exhaust and also trim the heat shield.
