Complete Towing Set-Up Needed for 2014 Nissan Xterra

Question:

I would like to purchase a complete towing package for my 2014 Nissan Xterra. I have been looking at the Curt equipment I think that it will fit my needs. Can you recommend exactly what I will need a complete list of parts? Ex. the vehicle is pretty high off the ground I think I may need a bit of a on the ball mount? I also want to make sure that I get the correct electrical components and that I can do this myself. Any input/advice is appreciated. Thank you.

To get your 2014 Nissan Xterra set-up and ready to tow, you will need five components. I have included an article which covers this.

1) Trailer Hitch Receiver - The Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13514, will provide you with 400 lbs of tongue weight capacity and 4,000 lbs for towing.

2) Ball Mount - To determine which ball mount is needed for your set-up, we just need to get a couple quick measurements. You'll want to measure the hitch height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening and then also measure from the bottom of the trailer coupler to the ground. The difference between the two is the rise or drop that is needed for your set-up. I have included a link to all of our ball mounts for you. Just use the filters on the page to narrow the results once you have your measurements.

3) Pin and Clip - # C21500 for standard pin and clip or # e98880 for receiver lock.

4) Trailer Hitch Ball - I have attached a link to these as well. Once you have picked a ball mount, check to see what shank diameter hitch ball it requires. You can then use the link to find the correct hitch ball.

5) Wiring Harness - The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56225, will provide you with a 4-way connector at the back of your Xterra. If you are looking for a 7-way connector you will need # C56226. Both wiring harnesses include the jumpers and relays needed to activate the tow package on your Xterra.

As for installation, the vast majority of our customers install the products themselves. With our awesome install videos, the tools required, a bit of patience, and an extra set of hands would be a bonus, I don't see you having any issues with installing everything yourself. Videos are attached!
