Recommended WD System for a 2008 Nissan Xterra Towing a 17 foot Travel Trailer

Hello, I am looking for a best weight distribution system for my TV and travel trailer. I have a 2008 Nissan Xterra with a max tow rating of 5,000 lbs and a max hitch rating of 500 lbs. I have a 17 foot travel trailer with a dry weight of 2,500 lbs and a tongue weight of 365 lbs. I also have an anti sway bar from the Casita factory. My Xterra sags several inches when towing. I would like to buy a weight distribution system and still use my anti sway bar if possible. Nothing fancy, just something that will do the job and not break the bank. Thanks.

When looking at a Weight Distribution (WD) system you will want to choose one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.

Since you are looking to keep your current anti sway bar you will need a WD system that has a hitch head with the extra space for the sway bar to install on. I have attached a link to our selection of WD systems for you to filter through.

One of our most popular, cost-effective options that may work for you is the Blue Ox Weight Distribution System # BLU45FR. This comes with a shank that fits a 2 inch hitch receiver, has a max TW capacity of 600 lbs, and a max Gross Towing Weight (GTW) capacity of 10,000 lbs.

As long as your TTW is under 600 lbs this will work great for your application.

Although WD is the best solution, it may not take all of the sag out of your towing setup. If this is the case then I also recommend installing some rear helper springs on your Xterra. The SumoSprings form SuperSprings have received great reviews so I recommend going with part # SSR-210-40 which is a no-drill application. It won't increase the weight capacity of your Xterra but it will help to support the suspension on your Xterra.
