Will a Round Tube Trailer Hitch Have More Flex and Lower Performance of Weight Distribution System
Question:
I have a 2015 Colorado, 3.6, 4x4, Crew Cab. I tow a 5K camper and the RV dealer suggests that I replace the OEM hitch it has round tube construction with a square tube constructed hitch. They tell me that the round tube has more flex in it lowering the performance of my Weight Dist Hitch. Can you provide your insights on this? Thanks.

In my opinion, since you already have the OEM hitch on your vehicle, I would not replace it with a square tube hitch, especially if you aren't having any issues with towing. Consumers tow everyday using a weight distribution hitch with a round tube hitch and do just fine.
I consulted with my contact at Cequent, the parent company of Hidden Hitch, Draw-Tite, and Reese, to get their opinion as well and basically the round tube is going to be a little less resistant to torque but as long as you follow the weight distribution towing capacity limits for the hitch, everything should be just fine.
