Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2002 Jeep Liberty

Question:

Hi I have a Jeep Liberty 2002. It has no hitch/balls whatsoever from what I know I dont know much about vehicles. I am trying to move and would love to be able to tow a small trailer for my belongings and it would be much cheaper than renting a truck. Therefore I am trying to figure out if it is cheaper to just get the hitch/balls installed on my jeep. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. :

Your 2002 Jeep Liberty is suitable for light duty towing and installing a trailer hitch, wiring, and using the appropriate accessories would be the way to go in my opinion. Also, if you go with a hitch you will be able to use other accessories in it after the move such as bike racks or cargo carriers.

Check the Jeep owners manual for its towing capacities before towing. Curt trailer hitch # 13044 is the most popular option for your Liberty. I have included a link to a video showing installation for you.

You will also need a ball mount, balls, and wiring. I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK2EL. It comes with a ball mount with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

And for trailer wiring you can use # C55382. I have also included some additional helpful links on towing and installing trailer hitches for you.
