Really cheap.

These lights are marketed
as submersible, but based on what's in the package I'm really dubious.

The lens bodies are not sealed. As you can see My photo, each lens body has a clearance hole for the wire - No gasket, and plenty of room around the wire, So water will definitely flood in and submerge the contacts and bulb/socket If you put these on a boat trailer.

Additionally, to Make the wire connections. They give you wire nuts. For submersible wire connections, at the very least, you should use crimp butts wrapped in tape - or better yet a heat shrink crimp butt. But they give you wire nuts, which aren't even really stable against vibration, let alone moisture.

It does say 3-year warranty on the package, however, so I guess I'll be testing that out.

Put these on an old boat trailer. Came out great. I got some white 16 gage stranded wire to carry the ground out to each mounting place. Helps the lights stay on even when stuff gets rusty.

Ok, had an issue with the bulb socket for brake and turn signal. Those socket designs date back to the stone age. Hard to set the bulb for proper electrical contact. Badly needs an updated design.

by:

generally happy with product but it was missing a nut for attaching light to trailer.

by:

This is an excellent product and simple to install. As long as you have a functioning plug-in on your vehicle you’ll be happy.
Time will tell how well it holds up to water and vibration

I’ve since pulled my boat to the lake with the trailer that I installed this lighting harness on. I unplug the lights before I back down the boat ramp to assure I don’t short out the system. Other than that I am still satisfied and would recommend these to anyone. Simple to install

by:

It is good product and I would recommend it completely.

by:

The light kit works great now; however, after much sweat & experimenting. Initially, I couldn’t get any of the lights to work, then I sanded away the paint where the lights attached to get good grounds from each light bolt/screw. At that point, 1 light worked perfect while the rest remained very dim. After changing wires & tow vehicles to verify it wasn’t something wrong with that connection, I found an etrailer post about running separate ground wires from each light directly to the ground connection coming from the tow vehicle. After another run to Lowe’s & several more feet of wire - it worked. Finally!! I don’t deal with this stuff regularly so this was like looking for an electric needle in a haystack. During this process, I called etrailer & they were good enough to get ready to send me a replacement light set, thinking this one was defective. Fortunately, I didn’t need it.

by:

This is a pretty standard trailer light package. The price was good and the equipment works great. I would recommend this product. It comes with electrical clips that are garbage though so I would recommend doing something different for you connection health. Overall, I have saved it for the next time my tire explodes going down the road and takes out my lights just for added injury to my night. (lol)

by:

So far these have held up well. Been a year

by:

looks great just got to find time to put them in-thanx-steveb

by:

Easy to install, did mine in a storage unit with minimal tools and no lights. Great product.

by:

Price was less than the local stores and shipping was fast. The lights look well made but I haven't had a chance to install them yet.

by:

Easy installation, works the way it sho uld.

by:

The lighting system performed well in traveling from NY to northern Michigan and return to carry an old boat back for restoration.

by:

Thanks ETrailer for making my boat trailer restoration a success . I restored a 1960 boat trailer to look brand new with your help.

by:

for the price you cant go wrong with th em

by:

I was looking for something cost efficient and good quality and I found it. I put the lights on a 62 Willys pick up I'm renovating. Work perfectly !

by:

Work great and good price

by:

The quality of these are better than the factory lights that came on the trailer originally. They're even brighter even though they use the same kind of bulbs as the original factory lights. The price was reasonable too.

by:

perfect for my kayak trailer

by:

Easy to install just follow the instruc tions.

by:

Have not yet installed the lights but the system is complete well built.

by:

I had to replace the lights on my utility trailer. The Kit came complete with easy to follow directions. Everything matched up perfectly almost plug and play. It took about 3 hours to remove the old lights and install the new ones. The only extra thing I had to purchase was extra white ground wire. The length that came with the kit was a little short. All other wire was more than ample length. That is why it got 4 stars other than that minor thing it would have gotten 5 stars. I am not a big user but the people at e-trailer are professionals with great follow up. This is the 2nd time that I used them and I do not hesitate to recommend the company and people.

  • Replacement Light Kit Recommendation for a 1994 Ranger Boat Trailer
If your boat trailer is under 80" wide I recommend the Submersible, Under 80" Trailer Light Kit with 25' Wiring Harness # TL5RK but if it is over 80" wide I recommend the Optronics Trailer Light Kit for Trailers Over 80" Wide # TL16RK instead. I'm not sure what all came on your 1994 Ranger boat trailer but these light kits are a good starting point. If there are additional reflectors or lights you're needing to replace please shoot me some photos of everything you need replaced and I'd...

  • Clearance Lights in Trailer Wiring Kit # TL5RK Do Not Light Up on a 1983 Southwind RV
If the wiring leading to the clearance lights in the trailer light kit, # TL5RK, have power but the lights do not light up, there could be a couple of problems. First, you are going to want to check the ground connection. These lights ground through a mounting stud. Make sure that they are attached to a bare metal surface that is not painted and that there is no dirt or corrosion. If the issue is not a bad ground, you can check the lights off of the trailer by attaching them to a battery,...

  • Recommended Trailer Light Kit for 4x8 Kayak Trailer
The trailer light kit I recommend for your 4x8 trailer is the Optronics Submersible, Under 80" Trailer Light Kit with 25' Wiring Harness # TL5RK. This is an incandescent light kit. If you prefer LED lights then the LED Combination Tail Light Kit for Trailers under 80" Wide - Submersible - Driver and Passenger # TLL56RK is the route to go. Even though you don't plan on submerging the trailer in water, the option is there and the sealed light housings are more durable.

  • Will Optronics Trailer Taillight Kit part # TL5RK Wiring Last Longer Than Two Years
That is really unusual for the wiring to basically just destroy itself within two years, but sorry to hear that. The kits we offer like the Submersible, Under 80" Trailer Light Kit # TL5RK that you referenced would not have this issue and would work really great long term. We have sold more of these kits than we can count and have not ever heard of that issue.

I've also attached a photo of the similar LED lights # TLL9RK in the same size for reference.

  • What Does 80 Inch Trailer Mean On Optronics Submersible, Under 80 Inches Trailer Light Kit # TL5RK
The 80 inches means the width of the trailer. Trailers that are over 80 inches wide are required to have two side marker lights, one on each side. The Optronics Submersible, Under 80 Inches Trailer Light Kit with 25 Foot Wiring Harness, part # TL5RK, is designed for trailers under 80 inches wide. The 25 foot length of wire that comes in the kit should work fine with your 20 foot long boat trailer. If you are needing a longer 4-way wiring harness I have the Optronics 35 ft. Wishbone 4-Way...

  • Running Light Fuse Blowing with Trailer Connecter to 2003 GMC Sierra and Tail Light Kit # TL5RK
It sounds like there is a short that is causing an overload situation that is in turn causing the fuse to blow. The problem could be in a number of places, but I would start by checking the grounds on the trailer and on the truck. The ground for the trailer side plug should be attached to a clean, corrosion and paint free bare metal surface on the trailer frame. The lights ground through the mounting studs. They, too should be free of corrosion, dirt, and attached to a bare metal surface. If...

  • Parts Needed to Replace Trailer Wiring and Lighting on a 1997 Coleman Sea Pine

These kits include all necessary wiring and hardware needed to install the lights on your trailer. The LED light kit does not include clearance lights. The Easy-Hitch Light-Up, Telescoping Hitch Aligner # JE00600 is a great option for aligning hitches and giving you a visual guide, but you cannot use them while driving.
