We needed a better way to haul around 3 kayaks and after looking at a number of options, we settled on the Thule Stacker setup. Installation is simple and the stackers provide a sturdy option for hauling multiple kayaks. One of the best features is that they fold down when you don't need to use them.

My shopping experience with etrailer was smooth and shipping was prompt.

Its been a year and were still enjoying the Stacker setup. We have been hauling around our kayaks to local lakes every other weekend or so, and have had no issues. I have been double checking the hardware and occasionally do have to tighten a mounting knob or two. Im happy that we made this purchase and hope to continue using them for years to come.

by:

My wife uses these to carry two small kayaks in the roof of her Subaru. They work great and we very happy with the purchase. She also likes finding her car easier in the parking lots, even with the carriers folded down.

No issues after a year would definitely purchase again.

by:

Basically easy to use but roof racks are always a bit awkward to put on and tighten. Was able to transport 3 10ft kayaks on a 2011 and 2017 Subaru Outback with factory racks. My only issue is the clipping ratchet tie downs that come with the rack, the clip is small and often gets caught on the nylon handles on the kayaks. The Grove is sharp and can get tricky to unhook. I personally traded them out for the simple open hook on the racket.

Thule stacker works excellent to carry 3 kayaks on a subaru outback.

Looked everywhere to find a kayak rack that would fit on an existing 08 Xterra with a manufacturer storage rack and crossbar support. etrailer site had what I needed. They had a "blog" describing that this would work, with extension bolts (which they also supply). Received the system within 4 days, installed it in about 15 - 20 minutes on the manufacturer rack. Holds up great, first trip we traveled about 250 miles round trip with two kayaks on top (about 80 lbs total), in 20 - 30 mph winds. No problems at all. I am extremely happy with this system. I do use a few rubber cabinet liners cut and placed on the crossbars to help the kayaks from sliding (this is also very helpful). I have read a few reports of the boats coming lose, but have not had any issues. I have enclosed a few pictures to show how they install as well as how boats were secured.

by:

This is an easy to use rooftop system. I don’t regret my purchase and would recommend it to others looking for a simple to use system.

by:

Time will tell, but so far so good.

by:

These were easy to install and use. I do recommend this carrier for multiple kayaks transport.

Do the kayaks sit directly on the Thule cross bars? Do you for see a problem rubbing, since there doesnt appear to be any type of padding between the kayak and the rails?

Tim B.

5/30/2015

The kayaks sit on the Rhino Rack bars and against the Thule carrier stems and rubbing is not an issue because they should have direct contact anyway. The straps keep them tight to the carrier stems and rack barsno padding needed. This was the best system for us!

by:

This is a well built system. This was laced onto a 2011 Toyota Highlander with factory rails. It is difficult to tell when the hardware is “tight enough” since the attachment clamps bend and conform to the shape of the rails. Since the Thule Stacker is deigned to hold up to four kayaks, there is no cradle to hold kayaks in place(expect some slipping when driving). To mitigate the slipping as well as piece of mind when tightening down the clamps, I purchased some neoprene rubber sheets to place under the kayaks as well as under the clamps to improve grip on the rails.

by:

The Stacker worked perfectly! We needed to haul 2 kayaks, and when we began to suspect that my 2014 CR-V cross rails weren't wide enough for the Thule J-Style carriers I kept looking. Well, The Stacker was the perfect solution.
Mounted in the center of the rails, to accommodate two Kayaks. Watching the video provided on etrailer page was very helpful, as we have never tried to use anything like this before.
These brackets are so very sturdy, and with kayaks attached, were so stable. The straps provided were sturdy too, and easy to use.
Being able to use these two brackets, instead of having to buy two sets of J-style hooks was a huge money saver.
Thanks to etrailer.com I was able to figure all of this out, using descriptions, reviews, videos and Q&A's available as I was trying to work out a solution. Thank you etrailer.

by:

They Work Well, but Depending upon your position of the roof racks you may get wind whistle if you don't have the kayaks up there, otherwise with the kayaks it was great easy to use and mount on my Rhino Rack, wish they had a front wind cover that would mount and prevent wind Whistle.

They definitely worked well with 2 kayaks up there, I will be trying with 3 in July.

by:

great product well documented installation instructions. Durable and kayaks are secure. Only negative is the roof rack clamp created a leak in driver side window that I have made a few adjustments but a slight leak continues.

by:

This company has great with customer service. I’ve bought a few things from them now. They seem like a very hands on company. I bought a thule roof rack and thule kayak stacker from them and the products were best price and as advertised. I will keep doing business with them

by:

This carrier allowed me to easily carry 4 kayaks, it was easy to install and even easier to use. The etrailer team was also very easy to work with, following up a few days after rack arrived to ensure I was able to install and see if I had questions. They also provided the same support and follow up on the trailer hitch that I purchased before too.

by:

Great product. Explanation of what we needed before we bought the product was excellent! Have loaded 4 kayaks easily for a couple trips. Very happy we purchased this instead of a trailer. Easy to take on and off and light to use on both vehicles allowing us to carry on kayak trip so we do not leave kayaks while retrieving other vehicle.

Great. Easy to install and Uninstalled when not using. Have even used for camping supplies.

by:

Perfect - perform as expected.

by:

I would not buy this item again. Very hard to hold 3 kayaks on top of my SUV using this item.

by:

Love this stacker rack! Wanted to get something that can carry 1-6 boats, and it works perfectly! Folds down nicely on the roof to fit in the garage when not in use. Carries up to 4 boats on my Chrysler Town & Country; up to 6 on the bars of my buddy's pop-up camper roof (extra straps are required for more than 2 boats). Durable, as are pretty much all Thule products. Would highly recommend!

by:

These are easy to install and fit the car without issues and look great. I purchased these to use with a Thule kayak rack and they fit perfect.

by:

The picture shows the stacker in the down position. Very easy to install and raise to tie the kayaks to the two upright Stackers. After you remove the kayaks, simple to loosen a knob and lay the stackers flat so that you don't hear any wind noise when you are driving. Or you can just remove them until the next time you go kayaking. This allows us to carry two of our plastic river kayaks. If we buy another set of the Stackers, we can carry a total of 4 river kayaks.

by:

Good information on site. There are photos of the installation which help a lot. The product is working well to transport two 10’ kayaks on roof rack of 2015 Subaru Outback.

by:

Installed on 2015 Subaru Outback...holds 2 kayaks safely and securely. Easy to use once you get the hang of positioning the kayaks where you want them and using the straps.

by:

Received the rack on time as promised. Unfortunately UPS smashed the box and repacked it. eTrailer responded immediately and sent a replacement. The rack fit my 2011 Santa Fe perfectly and worked as advertised.
I highly recommend eTrailer for their products and customer service.

by:

Excellent item arrived as promised. Nice sturdy and compact design looks like it will handle everything that I can throw at it. Looking forward to putting this to good use just like my other Thule products. Etrailer.com is my first go to for a great shopping experience.

by:

Kayak rack works great with 2 kayaks.. Easy to install.

Works great, no problems with this product.

These TH830 hold the kayaks side up for less wind resistance. Easy to tie to but I do carry a step ladder to reach center on top of jeep

  • Can I Fit Four Pair Of J-Style Carriers On Top Of My 2013 GMC Yukon?
You could possibly fit four of the # S65148 on your roof but it will be a pain to load majority of your kayaks up there. There is a better solution I found that will be more user friendly. You are going to need a large roof rack bar to accommodate your 4 kayaks. I suggest the Yakima 60" HD Bars # Y01157 and If you have factory side rails you will need the Yakima SkyLine Towers # Y53TR along with the Side Rail Adapter # Y03541 and Landing Pad # Y00221. If you have factory raised rails...

  • Recommended Roof Rack to Use With Thule Stacker to Carry 2 Kayaks
The Thule Stacker # TH830 is compatible with most aero, round or factory crossbars, so you'll have a variety of choices. I recommend using the Rhino Rack Roof Rack System that uses parts # RRVA137B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK284 since it's an extremely durable, well made rack that comes at a more pocketbook friendly price than something from Thule or Yakima. This is compatible with the Stacker and will allow you to carry both kayaks. I've linked a brief review video of this rack for you to have...

  • Do You Have a Recommended Kayak Rack for a 2001 Ford Excursion?
I called my contacts at both Yakima and Thule, and they both advised against buying the Yakima Big Stack # Y04041 and the Thule Stacker # TH830 because of the 1/4 inch clearance under your factory crossbars on your 2001 Ford Excursion. The best way to go to guarantee a fit of the kayak carrier clamps to your vehicle is to purchase the Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Aluminum - Silver - 53" Long - Qty 2 # TH711400. • Does The Thule Stacker Work on a 2016 Subaru Outback
Yes the Thule The Stacker part # TH830 will work out very well with your 2016 Subaru Outback. It is designed to work with the factory crossbars that exist on your roof allowing you to haul your kayaks to your destination safely. Check out the linked video showing how it works and installs.

  • Kayak Carrier And Bike Rack Options For 2014 Chevrolet Spark With Naked Roof
I did some research on your 2014 Chevrolet Spark and per the owner's manual it states that no more than 110 lbs can be carried on the roof or the vehicle could suffer damage. Carrying 2 kayaks would not be an option because the weight on the roof with the kayaks, roof rack, and kayak carrier would exceed the roof weight limit. If carrying one kayak is an option for you I recommend the Rhino-Rack ROC25 Roof Rack, part # RR22RR. This roof rack has quiet aerodynamic black crossbars and features...

This carrier would not install in the track of your crossbars though. Check out the review video I attached. Be sure not to exceed the roof capacity of the vehicle you plan on carrying your kayaks with. Check your owners manual for that capacity.

But note that this rack's unusual bar profile means reduced compatibility of accessory items like kayak carriers. You will have fewer kayak carrier choices with this rack.
