Carrying Tow Kayaks and Cargo Box on Yakima 78 Inch Rack and Roll Trailer

Question:

I want to mount a cargo box and 2 kayaks on a Yakima Rack n Roll 78. The kayaks could go in J racks to minimize footprint and perhaps one of the 24inch wide cargo boxes alongside. Will this work? What do you recommend for cargo box? How does the box attach to the bars?

Using a carrier that holds the kayaks upright on edge, like the Thule Stacker # TH830 would be a good way to maximize the available space on your crossbars. You can see a product demonstration video by clicking the provided link.

The largest capacity 24 inch wide cargo box we offer would be the SportRack Horizon, part # SR7016. The box has a 16 cubic foot capacity, and measures 76 inches long x 23-3/4 inches wide x inches tall 14-11/16. As long as your kayaks aren't much more than 24 inches tall (top of deck to bottom of hull), this solution would work well for you.

The cargo box would easily connect and detach from the crossbars using the EasySnap hardware, which consists of u-bolts that securely hold the box to the crossbars, but are easily and quickly removed.
