Heavy-Duty Towing

Specially designed for the serious tower, this fifth-wheel trailer hitch mounts directly to your medium-duty, cab-and-chassis-style truck for absolute stability and maximum towing capacity. This hitch is not intended for light-duty pickup trucks, and its towing capacity will be limited to the gross towing weight rating of your vehicle. Installation of the Reese low-profile fifth-wheel trailer hitch may require welding and moderate fabrication to ensure that the hitch is connected either directly to your vehicle's frame or to a substantial steel support structure that connects to the frame. Do not fasten to your truck's floor only.

Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

heavy and strong! But terrible design. Forward and back pivots smooth but side to side the fifth wheel moves on a half moon under two pins... first time out I thought I was loosing the trailer. Every corner expect a slam and your truck to shift. Its embarrassing to ride around with a truck that sounds like it’s going to fall apart. Would not recommend.

Took almost a week before etrailer shipped it, but then it arrived within couple days.

Great hitch, perfect for those with Flatbed Trucks.

Easy installation, to flatbed platform. Great hitch, I have towed over 100 5thwheels with it this past yr. I like how it will automatically open, then reclose when you back up up to connect. Components of the hitch are really tight when new, but seems to work better after a few uses and continued lube spraying. Overall very satisfied..

So overall this is a good hitch but would recommend an upgrade. I own a 2005 Freightliner Sportchassis. I pull a 14k fifth wheel. The hitch is an overall good design. The Sportchassis has predrilled holes already in place to fit this hitch. No drilling necessary. The only problem that I have with it is the side to side motion of the hitch head is very abrupt. The fore and aft movement is very smooth. The hitching and releasing is good. The hitch is built solidly. The head assembly rides on 4 metal roller assemblies and is supposed to roll left and right. With weight pulling on the head it rubs against the metal on the frame and provides excessive friction for the head. Once the trailer pivots enough, the head slams against the roller pins and sounds like the trailer is gonna break free. A very disturbing sound. My previous hitch was a b&w in a f250 and it was smooth as silk. The hitch does provide all that I need from it. With comparison to the other MDT hitches on the market it is the cheapest. I will probably with time upgrade to another hitch but it does provide what I need it for. If you are trying to save money on a MDT hitch, it works. If money is not an issue I would probably look at alternatives.

After several local rv stores said they did not have hitch that would work for my 2005 c4500 I found this hitch on etrailer. It was heavier, 25000 lbs capable, than
The local dealers (16000). I called etrailer and they were extremely helpful. I needed this quickly and was going to spend the money to have it overnighted but the lady asked where I lived. When I said central Missouri she said they could send it regular mail and I would get it the next day at no extra cost. It arrived as promised and it was easy to install. etrailer is the only place I will use for trailer parts. Great company and great service, they know what they are talking about!

by:

Purchase and shipping was a breeze. Reese hitch had poor QC. I had to have the side panels re-tapped as all 4 bolt holes were full of slag from the welding process. Once the frame was mounted, the top head would not drop in as designed. The use of a wood block and a sledge solved the problem. The ears for the pins were slightly bent in. Although the powder coat is good (partial cause why the head didn't drop in) the thickness caused problems getting the handle on. I had the drill out the handle and sand down the shaft. A bit more work than I expected. Looks to be strong and safe at this time. Once installed, it works as designed. Just be prepared to add some time to the installation.

by:

FYI Y'all need to get the dimensions right the base plate is not 20 1/4 inches center to center left to right it's 19 1/4 inches with the brackets flipped in and 15" on center front to back. Brackets flipped out would be 22 1/2 inches on center with brackets out.

by:

This is the second 5th wheel my company has bought for hauling cars in two years and both are the same model. They are working great and won't buy any other one for my company.

by:

Great 5th wheel and great customer support! Very reliable!

  • 5th Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2012 Ram 3500 Cab/Chassis Truck
A standard 5th wheel hitch attaches to brackets and rails that are tied to the vehicle frame. Because any one of hundreds of different bed options could be used, a bracket/rail kit isn't available for cab/chassis trucks. If the bed on the truck is a flat bed or if the frame members are accessible, you can use the Reese # RP30054 Low-Profile 5th wheel trailer hitch and install to a half inch steel plate that would need to be welded to brackets you'd need to have fabricated and bolted to...

  • Is it Possible to Tow a Fifth Wheel Using a Flat Bed Cab and Chassis Truck
You could certainly attach a fifth wheel hitch. Usually, you'll see them attached directly to the flat bed, like part # RP30054. This would indeed be a custom installation, as there aren't any install kits available for this application. The exact install procedure would depend on the nature of the truck bed as well the opinion of the installer. Be sure to use a professional welder who's experienced in trailer and towing work. The hitch would usually install so that the king pin would...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Availability for a Service Body Truck
It is possible to install a low profile fifth wheel hitch like the # RP30054 in a truck with a flat bed or a service body like yours. The reason you would need a low profile hitch is because the bed of a service body truck sits up off the frame of the truck a few inches higher than a standard truck bed. This hitch will be to have a custom install done by a qualified fabricator. You also need to consider the length of your trucks bed behind the rear axle. From the picture you submitted...

  • Options for Towing Fifth Wheel Trailer w/ Flat Bed Truck and Recessed Gooseneck Ball
As long as the recessed area in the bed measures at least 12 x 12 inches or so, most of the adapters we offer would work just fine for you. The best practice is to use a fifth wheel hitch for a fifth wheel, but in your case that isn't practical. Many adapters can be rough on the fifth wheel's frame, and some frame warranties will even state that an adapter shouldn't be used for that very reason. The Reese Goosebox is an exception. • Options for Towing a Fifth Wheel Trailer with a Flatbed Truck with Gooseneck Hitch
It would take a very custom install that would require a qualified fabricator to come up with a way to attach the rails to the frame of your truck. Typically for flat bed trucks we recommend the Reese Low Profile Fifth Wheel Hitch part # RP30054 that you referenced as it is lower in height and works well on flat bed trucks but also requires a custom install.
