Weight Capacity For B&W Companion On 2013 Ram 3500

Question:

Sir or Madam, In reference to my order #103255100, which I received a couple of weeks ago and am now just in the process of installing this hitch. I noticed on the base BVB3500 decal that the weight restriction is 20,000 pounds. I purchased the optional head #BWRVC3006 with the goal of upgrading the total hitch capacity to 25,000 pounds. My question is is it safe for me to pull a 5th wheel trailer at 25,000 pounds or am I limited to the 20,000 pounds of the base? If it is safe to pull the 25,000 pounds, is there a new decal that I can purchase to correctly identify the base of my hitch. Thanks in advance for your reply. Best Regards,

Helpful Expert Reply:

The weight capacity for any system is limited by the weight rating for the lowest rated component. There are many trailer hitches listed with much higher towing capacity than the vehicle is rated, but towing would be limited to the lowest rated component, which would be the vehicle.

For your towing setup, you are limited to the 20,000 lb capacity of the # BWRVB3500 base.
