Video Transcript for Fulton Trailer Winch - Standard Hand Winch - FW32000101 Review

Today we're going to review part number FW32000101. This is the new Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle. This new winch has a completely enclosed design which is durable and stylish. It has a cast aluminum frame which will provide corrosion resistance. Just to show you there's the opening for the strap. It has a planetary two speed gear system which lets you shift speeds quickly and easily. Down in front right here you can see there's a pull and turn knob which will easily engage and disengage the pall on the inside.

Basically if it's in this position as you can see right here-that is the engage position. If you pull it out turn it all the way to the other side that is the disengage position. It's very quick and easy-you just pull it up and rotate it. There is no exposed spring on there. Now it does have two speeds a low speed and a high speed. Just to show you basically how you would shift into those gears is your handle would actually do that.

You just pull out and that would be your low gear; if you push in that will be your high gear. Basically the difference is the gear ratio when you're in the high gear which its in right now the ratio is 5.1 to 1 which basically means for every five times you turn this crank the drum on the inside here will turn one revolution. The low gear, right there-if you turn this handle it will be 16 to 1. Basically for every 16 turns of this handle the drum on the inside will turn one revolution, so you got two speeds. You see it just goes in and out with the handle. The handle is a nice also aluminum.

Handle has a soft grip handle which will offer alternate adjustability. The actual handle itself-if you can see the holes here on the side you can adjust the handle length from six to nine inches.Basically I have it bolted on the very end one and if you measure from here to here it's going to be nine inches. If you go back down here it'll be eight, seven and then six. Basically you move it each inch for each hole you put it in too. That helps balance the torque speed and clearance for you.

Now this does use the EIS system which is the easy install system and that's a quick and easy installation. It fits industry standard mounting pattern. All the necessary hardware right here is included and basically as you can see you would just slide these in to line it up and then just use your flange nuts to tighten it down; very easy install system. It's a dual gear drum in a solid drive gear which will allow smooth and reliable operation. On the very back here you can see this part that's bolted on around here-that basically is a very hard plastic and it actually covers the gears. What that does its a rear strap guide so basically when your strap comes out here the strap has no way of getting into the teeth or the gears of your drum. Helps it from getting stuck or anything like that. Now this part does come with the strap. It is a 20 foot long two inch wide strap and basically the way that would install-I can show you right in here if you'll look-if you can see there we have the bolt-there's the hub drum center-the drum right there and then you can see the bolt that goes across.Basically what you would do is take the end of your strap-right here it has a loop on it and then they give you this strap anchor which is a very solid piece of metal that goes into that loop. Basically what you will do is run this strap between your hub drum and that bolt, pull the strap out, put the anchor in, and then when you tighten it down-this will hold it between that bolt and that hub drum-this anchor being in here will snug up against there and then you turn it around it will wrap around there. You do want to have at least three wraps of the strap around there at all times; you don't want it to the very end; very quick strap installation. The hub diameter on this on the inside is 7/8 inch hub diameter. This winch is designed for use with the strap only. It will hold the 20 foot by two inch wide strap. It does have a capacity of 3200 pounds and this winch does come with a limited lifetime warranty. One last tech feature that we do get a lot of questions on or tech note is at one time when they initially designed this winch they were going to have a third position where you pull this handle out and if you pull it out even further that would put it in a neutral position but because of safety reasons they have eliminated that position it's only the high and low gear position now. When they designed it the case still says neutral on it so if you turn it to that position there really is not a neutral position. If you do turn it to that position the strap will unwind but this handle does turn. In other words the handle will not be in a neutral position; the handle will turn if there is a load pulling out on this when it is in the marked neutral position here. You really don't need to use that just use the engage or the disengage. They have actually taken the neutral out of the handle. That should do it for the review on part number FW32000101, the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Two Speed Trailer Winch with the Adjustable Handle.

I added the Fulton F2 to my 1994 Mastercraft Prostar Trailer and it fit beautifully, and with room to spare. People may say that a 3,200 lbs pulling winch is overkill for a boat whose dry weight is 2,600 lbs but I live on a lake with a terribly steep ramp, so I usually need to finish cranking her up while on land so, I naturally, I needed a little more oomph! Note that when the drum is full, all winch's pulling capacity decrease. The F2 has a pulling capacity of 1,600 lbs when the drum is full, which is usually where I need the power - to move the boat that last 12".

The gears come pre-lubricated, since it's an enclosed design with hefty cast aluminum, I see why this winch has a lifetime warranty; it's built to last. In my opinion, the double hub design just makes sense. Usually I want to leave my boat in the lake as long as possible, now I can't wait to take it out just so I can try this winch.

Its still working like a charm! However, I was surprised to see a little rust forming near an edge of the housing. It cant be the aluminum housing, so there must be some internal components that are not waterproof resistent.

Received excellent service from Pat and Jameson at etrailer.com. I had several questions when looking for a replacement winch for my boat trailer. They were very knowledgeable and helpful. The order was received on time and was of the quality I anticipated.

Works great! One less this to worry about when loading the boat.

by:

Excellent product. Very sturdy and easy to use. With the lower gearing it allows you the pull the boat snug after you get to the top of the ramp when it doesn't seat just right the first time. And I would recommend spending the extra money on this unit versus others that are not fully enclosed. Installed on my trailer for my 2000 Moomba ski boat. Boat weight is 2450 lbs dry so close to 3,000 with gas, ski equipment, and other gear.

One year later and I am very happy with the winch. The lower gear is excellent for pulling the boat that last 2 inches up to the stop.

by:

What a great 2 speed winch! Some might say this size winch is not needed for a bass boat, but I can tell you it easily does the job on those tough launch ramps. The 2 speed feature always you to change the gearing to ease the loading process.

Its been 1 year and this winch operates as it did the first time after I installed it on my RangerTrail trailer. This winch will not let you down and itll make your life a little easier.

by:

Ordered this winch for my 19' triton bass boat. The previous winch had stripped its gears while pulling this fairly heavy boat onto the bunk trailer. It was always a beastly job to do! Decided to give the 3200# two speed winch a try. As with all previous orders from etrailer, they did not disappoint. Product came on time and seemed well built. Install went well. Mount holes lined up o.k. thanks to the adjustable slot grooves on the winch. Product works great. As with other comments reviewers made, I too did notice winch strap pulls out hard when getting ready to load boat onto trailer. Simply switched to the high gear and pulled out fine. After dealing with a broken, undersized winch, this product works as advertised and will be way easier on my ageing back for sure. Thanks etrailer and Fulton for another job well done!

by:

Very happy with the winch and how it operates. The only challange I had was having to re drill the holes to mount it because of the way my old winch was mounted. The rounded area on the front of the new winch was hitting the trailer winch post so I had to take a small amount of the metal off and shift it back. Great product.

by:

Although I have not yet used the winch as of yet, just installed it yesterday, I like the look and construction of the product. The two speed option will be of use on the steeper ramps when pulling the boat up the last few feet to the bow stop when you really start to feel the weight of the boat. I had to move the mounting position of the unit due to the size of the winch body. I drilled two new holes to be able to mount it without interference. There was enough adjustment in the third hole so that I did not need to relocate. It matches nicely with the Fulton F2 tongue jack. E-trailer service and delivery were great. Great communication and shipped product quickly. I will definitely consider E trailer for my next trailer parts purchase.

by:

Just got the 3200 winch and 1600 trailer jack installed on my trailer and if these products work half as good as they look I will be completely happy with my purchase. Only thing I can say as of now is I wish I would of upgraded sooner.

The Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed 2-speed Trailer Winch with adjustable handle- 3200lbs. Replaced my Fulton XLT 1401 Max. Line pull 1400lbs., on my Ranger 520X bass boat and it fit like a glove. Their was some question weather I could up grade to the New Fulton 3200 lb. 2-speed winch, but it fit perfect. The pulling power of this new winch is exactly what I was looking for, thank you Chris W. for all your patience and time you spent with me on the phone at the time of purchase.

by:

e-trailer got this to me in one day! Thank you!

Excellent winch.
I replaced an original Fulton winch on my 8 year old MC boat trailer. It was rated at 1300 lbs. and was adequate. When the pawl for the small gear broke, leaving it useless, it was time for new.

I thought this 2 speed F2 would be overkill for my application, but I'm very glad I made this choice. I didn't realize how hard I was working with that old winch. This winch makes it almost effortless. It works smoothly, has a nice clean look, and has no traditional pawl to break.

Of course we'll have to see how it holds up once THIS one is 8 years old. :)

Note: The rating of 3200 lbs. is a bit misleading. The side of the housing is marked saying it's rated at 3200 lbs. first layer, and 1600 lbs. with a full drum. I guess that means the more you strap wind in, the less pulling it can handle.

by:

awesome product piece of cake to install. it pulls my 32 foot Baja onto its trailer with ease. And E- trailer's shipping is fast almost as fast as my Baja...I said almost!! thanks everyone you will have my business again.

by:

Photos of the Fulton winch installed. Works like a charm!

by:

Product was easy to install. A lot beefier than the original one. Great replacement for my 2007 Ranger Z-22.

by:

Quality winch, easy installation. My wife was shocked that a winch could look so good!

by:

This winch seems to work fine except for one MAJOR flaw: The strap won't easily pay out when you switch the mode to neutral. In HIGH gear, it requires a lot of force to pull the strap out (i.e. to get it hooked onto the boat when the boat is several feet away from the winch) as compared with other winches I have used. In LOW gear, I found it *impossible* to pull hard enough to pull the strap out.

I will continue to use it, but I am pretty disappointed in this "feature".

As of January 2013, Neutral option has been disengaged for safety reasons. In low speed the handle turns 16 times to 1 drum revolution.

by:

Good looks, well engineered, smooth operation, very versitle. Over the last 4-5 years my boat seems to have gotten heavier (????). This winch is the equalizer and then some. Very satisfied.

Awesome! Splendid performance!

by:

this thing is massive!! had to modify the mount a bit but was super easy to install. pretty straight forward. will be testing it out soon .

by:

A big improvement over the 1500 lbs winch that was equipped on my trailer. Well built, quality product that does a fantastic job of getting my 19 foot deep vee those last couple feet onto the trailer.

Still does the job. Boat was terrible to load without it.

This has been an outstanding addition to my trailer. The two speed gearing is exactly what it is needed to finch trailering my boat to the winch stand when loading. It is effortless in the lower gear...!!!

by:

I have a 29, Regal boat about 5000lbs dry weight this winch preforms excellent for loading it on to the trailer.

This winch has not missed a beat works very well with my boat!

by:

Unfortunately, this unit does not fit my trailer. The mounting bolt pattern is only about 2 1/4" wide for the forward bolts, but my trailer requires about 2 3/4" wide. Unfortunately, the spec for the winch did not specify the bolt pattern, so I mistakenly assumed the hole patterns are pretty standard. I will need to return this unit.

The industry standard mounting pattern is basically a triangle-shaped bolt pattern. The two bolts at the bottom are 2-1/4 inches apart on center. The top bolt is 4-1/2 inches from either bottom bolt on center.

Product arrived in 2 days after I ordered it, was in perfect condition and I love it
etrailer is a great place to do business. Thank You All.

No Problems

by:

I replaced the winches on both of my boat trailers with F2s. One of the boats is a heavy 25'er and most of the landings in our area do not allow power loading. Because of that, I have to winch the boat up for about the last 6' (depending on the angle of the landing). The F2 lets me winch the boat up the majority of the way in "high gear" and then switch over to the lower gear for the final 18" or so. The F2 has made loading that boat so much easier than before. I highly recommend the F2 for anyone with a heavier boat.

by:

Great to work with, order easy, shipped and delivered on time, product is as described functional and looks great too!

by:

This is a great trailer winch. Well built and solid. You can tell as soon as you get it that is a quality winch. I mounted it on a trailer for a 24' Xcursion pontoon boat with a 150hp Evinrude ETEC. So it's probably weighing in at about 3500# to 3900# loaded and full fuel and oil. This thing seems like it could pull it right out of the slip and on to the trailer. I would and have recommended this winch to anyone that is looking for one. It completely blows the cheap stock ones out of the water! You won't go wrong buying this one!
