Video Transcript for Deka Primary Wire Heat Shrinkable Tubing Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing. These are available in either red or black and gauges between 2-8, 8-12, 10-14, or 14-18. You'll want to use heat shrink to cover up any exposed surfaces, especially on power circuits. We've got some here covering up the ends of our ring terminals where we've crimped it onto our battery wires. We also used it here where we connected two wires together using a non-insulated crimp. And you can see we've used it again here on a larger gauges.

You want to make sure that you use the appropriate size for the gauge wire you are working with. It's a shrinkable EDA tubing that is slightly larger than the gauge you're working with when you're using that appropriate size. You slide it over the wire before making your connection. Once you've made your connection you slide the shrink tubing back over the exposed wire and apply a heat source. I recommend using a heat gun. If you need a heat gun you can pick on up here at etrailer.com.

You can see here as the heat source is applied to it the tubing shrinks tightly over our exposed wiring keeping out any moisture and corrosion that may occur. And that completes our look at Deka's Shrinkable Tubing.

The replacement trailer lights plug is much sturdier than any molded plug I have seen. Installation was quicker and simpler than I expected. The silicon grease provided should do a good job of keeping are and water off of the connections. My trailer has a removable tongue so it has a total of three connections I plan to order an extra male and female plug just to have on hand.

Exactly what I was expecting. Well packaged and arrived in 5 days. Using to make water tight seals on my trailers wire connections.

Product exceeded expectations work extremely well for my trailer rewiring project

  • Plug and Play 7-Way Trailer Connector for 2008 Ford F-150
Unfortunately, neither the # 118247 nor the # 118242 are a fit for the 2008 Ford F150 as Ford changed the connector under the truck after the 2003 model year (2004 for the Heritage models). I've heard that Ford used the same connector under the vehicle on models after 2003, but simply changed the pinout, but I've been unable to confirm this. I'd recommend hardwiring in a connector using part # HM40975-11998 which would wire into the tow package wiring forward of the connector located...

  • Availability of Replacement Tail Lights for Peterson Boat Trailer?
The lights I recommend for you are the Peterson # M540. These are epoxy-sealed submersible lights which will stop water from interfering with the bulbs. Keep in mind this does not protect the wiring, so you may want to take a look at some liquid electrical tape, # SWC50122. I also recommend you use heat shrink such as # DW05450 for all your wiring, which will help protect it.

  • Fuse Recommended for TN44RR Water Dragon Underwater LED Light
The fuse needed will depend on how many of the # TN44RR lamps are installed on the circuit. Each lamp draws up to 1.38 amps so if you'll have less than 7 on one circuit, a fuse holder like # C58470-1 would work well for you. The holder doesn't include the ATC 10A fuse, you'll need to pick that up separately at an auto parts store. We don't offer a harness specifically designed for this lamp, I'd recommend using 14ga wire such as part # DW07550-1 which is available by the foot. I'd recommend...

  • Availability of 7-1/2 Inch Oval Trailer Taillights With Separate Brake Lamp and Turn Signal Circuits
We don't offer a 7-1/2 inch oval taillight that's compatible with a 'separate' taillight system. Everything we offer is designed for a typical combined system that carries the brake lamp and turn signal on the same circuit. It could be possible to wire the # STL211XRFHB as a separate system, but the turn signal indicator would be white light which would get you in trouble with the DOT or law enforcement, so I wouldn't recommend doing that. I wouldn't give up on the taillight converter....

  • Troubleshooting Tekonsha 90195 P3 Brake Controller Displaying Output Shorted Error Message
You're receiving this error message because there's a short somewhere in the brake output circuit. There are 3 typical places where you can find the problem: 1) Examine the trailer connector, both on the vehicle and on the trailer. Check the pins and sockets for damage or green/white corrosion. If the corrosion is pretty prevalent, it could have spread to the terminal inside the connector itself, causing two adjacent wires to short out. 2) Trace the brake circuit (typically a blue wire)...

  • Installing Aftermarket Brake Controller on 2012 GMC Sierra With Factory Integrated Brake Controller
If the vehicle has the factory installed integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC), the tow package wiring that exists under the dash is used to install an aftermarket controller. The wiring is located under the dash, above where the driver's left knee would be. Look for a wiring harness with a white tag on it. The red/black tow package wire connects to the black controller wire The white tow package wire connects to the white brake controller wire The light blue tow package wire connects...

  • Can Electric Brakes be Used on a Boat Trailer
Modern electric brakes such as those that come with Dexter axle # 8327812-EB can be used on boat trailers. However, I strongly recommend that before submerging the trailer in the water disconnect the trailer's electrical plug from the tow vehicle. No need to take any chances; safety first! If there was a problem caused by the water it would more than likely be the result of exposed wiring somewhere and not the electromagnets themselves. It is recommended to use heat shrink tubing or butt...

  • Connecting Thule License Plate Holder # TH35JV To 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector Wiring
Yes, you can use the Roadmaster Extension Loop # RM-300150-00 to connect to the Thule License Plate Holder # TH35JV wiring. This will leave you 2 exposed male terminals which will have power and could short out when using the turn signals and brake lights. You can protect this by covering the terminals with some Heat Shrink # DW05450 to seal away the connectors. Or so you do not have so many connections you can cut off the end connectors of the 4-way and 2-wire to connect them with Butt...

  • Availability of 2-Foot Long Trailer Wiring Harness for Motorhome
I can come up with a solution or two for you, but the cable on the Curt # C55774 that you looked at measures about a foot long, so unless you have some slack in the motorhome's tow package harness that would make up that extra foot for you, you would need to make some modifications to an existing product. The first alternative would be to use the # HM40975-11998, and cut off the US car connector on the motorhome and hardwire the pigtail from this connector into the tow package wiring....

  • Are Connectors of CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights # CE27760 Water Tight
If you wanted to seal the connections of the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons with LED Lights # CE27760 you'd be able to with heat shrink like the # DW05450 which would work well. But aside from that or sealing them in a different way the connections are not water tight.
