eZ-Latch Coupler

This coupler features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic. Disengaging the coupler is just as effortless. Simply lift up the contoured handle and the coupler socket will automatically release its grip on the ball.

Demco eZ-Latch in Use

The eZ-Latch's sleek, ergonomically designed handle is constructed of a durable composite material that's corrosion-proof, allowing it to withstand whatever the road and the elements dish out.

When the OEM steel brake lines wore out on my boat trailer I decided to upgrade the surge brakes to electric over hydraulic (EOH). I replaced the damaged lines and wired up a Demco actuator and now I can stop my trailer on a dime.

Although I could have continued to use the original coupler (surge) it was already quite worn and a pain to open. So into the trash it went and on went this nice new Demco 18K coupler.

Now, even my daughter can uncouple the trailer.

100 Satisfied!

by:

Once I understood how this hitch works it was awesome! Since I am used to the 'old fashioned' hitches where to drop the hitch onto the ball you have to open something I kept trying to hold the latch up when lowering onto the ball. With this style that is completely unnecessary and once I sorted that out this hitch is the easiest hitch to use I've ever owned! In fact now I have two of them! Quality is exceptional

by:

Works as intended also I like the plastic release on the coupler had these before and will keep using them in our fleet

by:

I ordered the coupler for my jet ski trailer. I was tired of changing back and forth between ball sizes so I standardized to 2 5/16. Cut the old one off, welded shins to the tongue, then welded the coupler on. I like the auto latching feature.

by:

Received our package right when it was estimated to arrive, it work our great on my trailer

Its working out fine my only concern is not being able to pad lock the coupler

Etrailer Expert

11/16/2023

@John You can indeed lock it. Use # e98888, and run it through the hole on the side of the coupler, just below the latch. Hope that helps!

by:

New coupler works great. Had to drill one hole that did not match up with old surge coupler but that was no issue. Here is before and after pics. Will definitely come to you guys for any other trailer needs. Thanks.

by:

I rarely do reviews and after 1 year, I find that I really like this hitch. The self latching onto the ball works and is easy to see that the hitch is indeed latched. The entire hitch is heavy duty, and gives me confidence to a pull a big heavy classic boat all over the western US.

One year out and Im still happy with this hitch as can be. I would buy another one if ever needed.

Demco couplers are so easy to use and very reliable. I have since put them on all my trailers.

by:

This is an excellent coupler. I have mounted it on two of my three trailers. And, of course, etrailer.com has OUTSTANDING service - always extremely helpful whenever you need them.

by:

We raise cattle, so we don't have the luxury of a hardware store a block away. A friend told us of etrailer. GREAT folks to work with! Ordered what we thought we needed. It didn't fit. "No problem," returned it to etrailer and they helped us get the correct DM13203-95, 2 5/16 ball, 3" channel tongue that our draw-bar required.
While talking with the folks at etrailer, they recommended the GT-1007 trailer document holders. These document holders have functioned very well, keeping the registration & license papers dry and free of mud, dirt & dust on our trailers so far - 110 degree summer heat, heavy rain / mud, gravel, snow, freezing night time temperatures and highway speeds. All are still in perfect working order.
We have recommended etrailer to others and will continue to do so.
Thank you etrailer for your knowledgeable staff, quick response time, and good pricing.

The document holders are still in super shape, & of course so is the 2-5/16 coupler.

by:

Got rid of the slam-bang ..... Thank-you etrailer

by:

Nice heavy duty tongue replacement holes line up perfectly.

by:

Have had it for a year. Came as advertised and fit correctly. Works great

by:

Used this product to replace the original on the trailer which was a 2" coupler. I wanted a 2 5/16" coupler so that all of my trailers use the same size ball. With the adjustable height hitch I use, now I only need to adjust the height rather than changing the ball as well. This is a great product, very well built. I own eleven different trailers and the latch mechanism on this coupler latches and releases better than the others I currently use. I will buy another when the need arises.

by:

Bought it so my trailers would have same size ball. Very easy to use. Just unbolted the old hitch and put this one on. Very pleased!

Still working great!!

by:

Great service and website!

by:

Great coupler. I got tired of swapping hitch balls on my truck, so I swapped this coupler onto my bass boat trailer. Now all of my trailers have the same size ball requirement. I like the easy latch system too, you don’t have to open it to latch it, just drop the coupler onto the ball and it auto latches.

by:

This was exactly what I needed and they are very helpful and got it shipped out right away, will definitely shop here again in the future

by:

I got this hitch coupler as a replacement for my boat trailer hitch. I wanted all my trailers with the same hitch size. This product worked perfectly and it has been over a year of use with no problems! I highly recommend this product!

by:

Not much for purchasing on line. But when i received my coupler i could not have been more pleased! Great quality fantastic fit smooth action. I would definitly recommend.

just like the day i got it. perfect could not be more pleased. thank you.

by:

Fit like a glove and arrived on time as stated.

by:

purchased this coupler to create an extension for my sailboat trailer that with together with the boat has a combined weight of 10,000 lbs. The coupler is rated 18,000 lbs and is heavy duty construction. It is pre-drilled (1/2" holes) to easily bolt on to a 3 inch box steel frame. I shop etrailer because of the thorough product descriptions, how-to videos, competitive prices and customer service.

by:

The product is solid and the holes lined up exactly to those on my EZloader trailer meaning no drilling just attach new bolts - took less than a half an hour
The mechanism for attaching the ball worked well - just lower it on the ball and it clicks into place - I just hope the non-metal piece that controls this function will be long lasting - but for now am very satisfied with the product.

by:

This coupler works great, it is very high quality and I love the locking mechanism. I used it in very rugged conditions (mountains and snow) and it has not given me one single issue. I have another trailer coming and I plan on changing the stock coupler out for this one as soon as it gets here. I would recommend this product to anyone.

  • Recommendation For Converting Drum Surge Brakes To An Electric Over Hydraulic Drum Set Up
Since you are going to be using this on a boat trailer, I definitely recommend HydraStar. Their actuators are built of extruded anodized aluminum for corrosion resistance, have weathertight seals protect internal components, and include marine-grade gaskets and stainless steel hardware, so they are designed for use with boat trailers. With that being said, we do not have a plug and play kit available for drum brakes at the moment, but we do have a kit that includes everything you need....

  • Coupler Recommendation for 12k Boat Trailer with 3 inch Wide Frame and 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball
We have the Decmco Channel Coupler part # DM13203-95 which would work well for a bolt on option. This fits 3 inch wide channel, is designed to fit a 2-5/16 inch ball like you have and has an 18k capacity. For a similar weld-on coupler we have the part # DM12662-97 which comes primed for paint as well. Either would be a great solution for use with the Hydrastar part # HBA16 you are planning on installing.

Yes, you need to replace that cracked coupler right away. I'm not sure from the photo what ball size it takes or if you have a straight tongue trailer or A-frame, but get something with a good powder coat or one that is zinc-plated if this is a boat trailer, like the Demco Cast Head Coupler - A-Frame # DM37ZR or Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13203-95. I have added links below to our selections of both A-frame and straight tongue couplers.
