Video Transcript for CIPA Convex Glass Rearview Boat Mirror Review

Hey, everybody Zach here at etrailer.com. Today. We're going to be taking a look at a marine rear view mirror from CIPA. This is going to be a nice addition to your boat to allow you to see behind you. So if you've got somebody back there skiing, or you've got people back there tubing, or you just want to be a little bit safer on the water. So a lot of people would just kind of do this one right here, where they're keeping an eye on them, but then they'll keep glancing forward and just going back and forth. That's fine, but it's maybe not the safest way of going about it.

So now with this, I can keep looking forward, but I can also keep an eye on the people back there as well. And this is going to be, you can mount this a couple of different ways, it can be a temporary mount, or it can be a permanent mount. So if you've got different people that are hopping in and driving, you can adjust it to their needs. Just a couple of thumb screws on the back, allow you to move it around. I think that the temporary mount is nice, I like that it's universal, but it leaves a little room for some wobbling around there, so you're going to get some vibration. So I think that I would probably just do a permanent mount that allows you to screw it into a location, maybe into your windshield frame, if you're not going to cover this up all the time.

But this is going to allow you to get a good pivot on it, with that ball and socket on the back there, but you can see right there, there's some movement. So this isn't my favorite setup. There are some other options out there that have a little bit more stiff bracket to it, and they're not going to get as much of the vibrations out of it.Now, overall, this one is not my favorite one that we offer. I think the plastic design is pretty thin. So I think it's, could easily be broken if it was hit or if you took it off and it was dropped.

The bracket is all metal though, and has a paint cover on it, so it'll hold up against rust and corrosion. But I think that this is pretty flimsy. I don't know if it would hold up for that long, but if you're just looking for something to throw up there every once in a while, it's still a really good option. It's not the largest mirror that we offer. I personally kind of like the smaller ones, because I don't want something that's obstructing my whole view up front. The overall size of this is going to be two and half inch by eight inches.

So I think this is a really good size. If you can get past those vibrations and that movement, I think it's going to be a pretty decent option for you. People seem to like it. They kind of look past the idea of this kind of thinner material and I think they just want something to see behind them. The overall installation is pretty easy. So let's just walk you through getting this put in place.First thing you need to do is to figure out where you want to mount this. So I'm going to put mine right here so I'm not obstructing my view. And if you're permanently mounting this to something, you can see there's four holes here. The larger ones are for the temporary mount like we're doing today, but then you can see there's going to be a spot where you can run two screws down through there. And there's not a set way that you have to do it every time, but we're going to see what's going to work best for us here. Kind of mock this up. I think we could do something like this. This doesn't give us a lot of range down, but I actually think this is going to be a good setup right here. If we flipped it around it would be just a little bit lower. Now there is a logo on there, you can spin this around if you want that to sit right side up. I think this is also a good one. It's just a little low for my taste, but that's something you can definitely do as well. So I think I'm going to keep it at that original one.And then once you get it figured out how you want it to mount, you want to make sure you're not putting it on any snaps for a cover. So I have mine sitting right between a couple. And we'll just tighten down those screws until they make contact. Hold this in place. Let's see, it's still a little loose. Pulled it up off that tracks, I'll have to get that back down. There we go.All right. So there it is. It's a little loose and that is kind of playing around there where those screws go through those holes. So think we will get those vibrations. You can see, even though the brackets on there, it's not held in place as well as some of the other ones I've tested out. Even some of them from CIPA. I like the Concept Two Mirror a lot there. But we still have a mirror there and I kind of like the height for it. So we've got good visibility back there so I can keep looking forward, but we will definitely have some looseness there that may bother you, may get some vibrations through that. But if you can get past those vibrations, I think this still serves its main purpose of giving you visibility of seeing your skiers or just safely boating out on the waters. But that's going to do it for our look at the CIPA Rear View Boat Mirror.

Service was great, but the mirror was kind of cheap and it was popping loose of the backing.

by:

The reflective material is very poor quality. I used once and was so frustrated I junked it. Hardly a “mirror”

by:

Mirror is perfect for my application. Inexpensive, yet practical for my boat and it screwed right on as advertised.

by:

I needed a good rearview mirror for inside my steering station on a new to me C.Dory 22 boat. I wanted to be able to see out the back of the boat to see what was behind me. This mirror came with a bracket that I could mount to the center shelf area above the entry to the V-berth. It works well for me for the purpose I needed it.

by:

excellent service and order fullfillment

by:

It was fastened per instructions, transporting to boat ramp was 4 Hour Drive. Upon arrival mirror had come off cruising down the highway

by:

Bought this mirror for a John Deere Gator we have at work about a year ago. Our security officer drives the Gator around our parking lots regularly throughout the day. With all the traffic in and out of our parking lot we thought this rearview mirror would give the driver better visibility, especially from cars/trucks that might be following them or ready to pass the Gator. This mirror was worked really well and we side mounted it.

Thanks for selling us a great product. And thanks for the great customer service you have provided me over the years.

by:

i have used etrailer a few times and always satisfied the product descriptions are accurate the prices are fair and the delivery was prompt with no problems i have already told a few friends that whatever they need for their trailer or other accessories try etrailer first

by:

Good product at good price. Mounting bracket not the best but works for my purposes.

by:

Installed this item as a side mirror on my golf cart. Works well. Good purchase.

by:

Mirror shipped promptly and was as advertised. Actually we use the mirror clipped to the handhold on our Gator CX ATV. Manufacturer might consider raising the height between the mirror and the mounting clip to double as ATV use. All in all we are very satisfied.

by:

I received my mirror and within a couple of minutes I had it out of the shipping box and installed on my boat, I installed it on the chrome tubular bar above my windshield. The frame appears to be secure then allowing easy adjustment of the mirror.

Decent product for the price with quick shipping.

Thanks,

Neil

by:

by:

I purchased the mirror a year ago. It lasted about six months and has turned green and is so pitted it is no longer usable. Wouldn't buy it again.

by:

Not quite optically perfect, but for the price I got exactly what I needed.

by:

Not HUBBEL quality , but great for the price. Easy to mount and adjust.

by:

THE OPTICS ARE POOR,BUT....FOR THE PRICE IT IS MORE THAN USEABLE ON MY BOAT

by:

Works great

by:
