Video Transcript for CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror, part #CM49805. This 4-inch CIPA oval mirror offers a wide viewing angle to make it safer when changing lanes and passing. The black plastic housing holds our adjustable convex lens, so you can adjust it to better see your blind spot. The included metal clamp allows it to fit most factory mirrors. Now, as you can see, I'm in the vehicle's blind spot. You can't see me in the vehicle's factory mirror, but you can see me in the new CIPA Blank Spot Mirror. Now, why don't we go over some of the features.

I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. First thing we want to do is go ahead and loosen up the Philip's screws right on top here. That way we can slide it in all around the casing of our mirror. Then we can take our included plate and set that in place. What that's going to do is it's going to protect our factor mirror from getting scratched up when tightening down our mirror here.

We're going to clip that on our housing, just like that. We can set in anywhere along the top of the housing, but right here's good for now. We'll grab our Philip's screwdriver, and we'll tighten that down. That's going to complete our look at the CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror, part #CM49805. .

The CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror has been attached to the rear view mirror on a Ford E350 for months now and has held on OK.
I have not found it to be very useful, due to the shape and limited range of motion of the mirror. Even with it rotated all the way to the side it does not go far enough to fully cover the blind spot. It does provide some coverage and has not fallen apart or fallen off so that is a plus. If you move your head around a lot you can scan the blind area, which is not what I had hoped for but at least it does provide some utility. It might work for your spot or it might not, but it will probably last for a while!

I've been using blind spot mirrors since around 1982, this is one of the best that I have used. Easy directions, easy installation, strong and durable, has been staying in place for a year now and hasn't moved. It eliminates the need to turn around to see while you're driving. Good quality and good price. How's that?

by:

Fantastic! This mirror solved our blind spot problem and saved our sanity!

by:

Tasteful, sturdy looking mirror with excellent brackets... that I didn't use. mounting them on top of my mirrors did not suit my particular taste, so I tried mounting them below the mirrors. They looked good, but the blind spot mirrors would have rubbed on the door when the mirrors are folded, and I use an automatic car wash in the winter. I removed the brackets and used a double-sided dense foam automotive trim tape made by 3M to stick them to the bottom of my truck's mirrors. They're useful and almost un-noticeable. Very happy with my purchase. Yes, they were a little expensive, but I'm willing to pay for the extra quality.

Very satisfied. I would highly recommend these mirrors.

by:

These seem to be pretty good quality for what they are - an alternative to the stick-on convex mirrors that take up valuable space on your regular mirrors. I accidently dropped one on the concrete driveway and it survived unharmed. As mentioned by other reviewers, I decided to mount these underneath so as to not block my forward view. This requires that the convex mirror be recessed somewhat so that it doesn't hit the door when the mirrors are folded in.

If the intent is to attach the mirrors using 3M foam tape, removal of the supplied mounting bracket is a bit tricky. The attaching machine screws are threaded into small internal nuts that are hidden behind the mirror in a nearly inaccessible location. I ended up jamming a flat screwdriver in there to keep the nuts from turning while unthreading the screws. Once the screws come out, you are committed as there is no obvious way that the bracket could be reassembled.

The mirror adjustment range is rather limited, especially in the side-to-side direction. If the up-down adjustment is maxed out (which it likely will be if you mount the mirrors underneath), then there is little or no side-to-side adjustment left. This needs to be taken into account when the mirrors are permanently mounted. I ended up resetting the position a couple of times by trial and error before I was satisfied that the orientation provided good coverage of the blind spots.

by:

good quality product easy to install -
I
wanted something larger.

by:

The top mount does free up the OEM mirror surface. Big plus. The mounting hardware provides a secure attachment to the OEM mirror housing and is easy to install.

The small mirrored surface area of the product does require precise viewing angle adjustment for the reflected image to appear in my viewing range,

While the curved mirror surface does allow vehicles in the OEM mirrors blind spot to appear the curved mirror distorts the apparent distance, speed and size of the approaching vehicle. In the end I still have to look over my left shoulder to accurately gauge the actual distance speed and size of approaching vehicle and feel safe making a lane change..

All the high tech solutions are extremely costly and have problems of their own. If CIPA could find a simple affordable solution to devise a blind spot mirror which eliminates the image distortion I would buy it in a heart beat.

by:

This clamp on mirror does a great job of letting you see your blind spot, without using up valuable space on your rear view mirrors. Build quality is good, and it attaches very securely. This is my second one, I liked the first one so much, I got another for my truck!

by:

Put them on my new Slingshot. Have a set on my pick up.
Really gets rid of all blind spots.

Of course here in New Mexico, no rust. But most everything else looks sandblasted. Finish is holding up nicely. Mirrors still look new.

by:

Toooo small length and no complete dimensions deceived me at purchase, my loss

by:

Doesn't seem like it will stay securely fastened after installation.

by:

No corrosion at all. Still look new, and I use them everytime I drive.
Just have to be careful at car washes. If theu are automatic with brushes, can knock them off. Have had them knocked off, recovered it, and put it back on. No damage.

Wonderful. No rust,no fogging or fading. Have turned on a couple friends to these mirrors, and they love them.

by:

Great blind spot mirror , do not hesitate to buy it , soooo much better than those small corner sticky ones you buy in big box stores , you might pay a liitle more but quality is much better !

The mirror I ordered was so damaged by the Post Office it could not be used. I contacted etrailer. They were very helpful and sent a replacement immediately and up-grading shipping to Fed Ex. I am extremely please and would recommend etrailer without reservation.

by:

Overall, these mirrors work as advertised. They are small, so some limitations should be expected. I have 2 of them mounted on my Jeep Wrangler and so far they have held up to minor abuse, the clamping system is simple and mostly secure; it is a good idea to check them from time to time. This is the second pair i have used and would not hesitate to recommend them.

by:

I'm installing these on a 2021 Tacoma extended cab 4x4. There were some difficulties, not with the product as much as issues with how the Taco's rear view mirror housings are configured. The top part of the mirror does not provide enough of a flange to install the mirror such that it's pointing in the proper direction. Mounting it below seems to work better. In summary, the product is great, but it may not adapt to all vehicles.

by:

What an outstanding product and combined with excellent service and a easy to order process!!

These blind spot mirrors are the best! No more blind spots for me! I now feel a lot safer when passing cars or huge semi-trucks on the highway.

I had tried and brought almost all the bins spot mirrors out there. This is the ONLY ONES that really work.

Yes, I have a new car but it does not have the newer car safety fixtures - like electronic blind spot warning.
I do not need it with your product.

Easy to install in minutes on any car.

I highly recommend your product for anyone wanting to drive safer.
It should be available at auto dealers for a after-market safety device!

Hally C. of your company provided great service - and I got my second set of this product on the next day! This was for my wife's car.

Thank you etrailer.com and Hally C!

by:

Ordering was easy, shipped the same day. Part came undamaged and was just what we needed
Thanks

by:

These mirrors are great, very helpful while towing. However, the website wasn't clear that I was ordering 1 each mirror; I thought I was ordering 1 pair, so I had to place a second order for the second mirror.

by:

Well made, good size

by:

We all have blind spots but I lost the vision in my right eye so my right blind spot is 'blinder'. This mirror does a fantastic job of making blind spots highly visible.

by:

Good product that holds up to weather. I've had one on my pickup for 1 1/2 years. It went thru winter with no visible rust or wear. Tried another product on the right side, and it was rusty, and looking bad before winter was over. That's why I bought 2 to put on the new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Really takes care of the left side blind spot, and I know it will look good for years to come.

by:

I loveThese it makes changing lanes so much easier but just seeing traffic on either side of you and being aware of what is around you these mirrors sure do help

by:

I mounted it on top of the mirrors a year ago. They have stayed and give us more vision from the FJ

by:

Easy installation, perfect fit and no longer do I have any blind spots ! Wonderful product and I highly recommend this mirror!

  • Will the CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror # CM49805 Fit a 2010 Ford Expedition
The CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror # CM49805 that you referenced is a universal clamp on fit. We haven't test fit it on a 2010 Ford Expedition, but I have no reason to doubt why it would fit. I went out to the warehouse and took some quick measurements to help you know if it will properly fit your mirror. The plate that slides between your mirror housing and the mirror itself is 1/16" thick. The smallest that the opening between the screws and the plate is 1/8". You can use these measurements...

  • Which Blind Spot Mirror For Jeep Wrangler JL and Do I need 2 Of Them
Yes, the CIPA Top Mounted Blind Spot Mirror part # CM49805 fits the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL as long as the Jeep's mirrors are factory mirrors. The edge should be at least 1/8 of an inch for the clamp on mirrors to grip to it and from my research the factory mirrors on the Jeep have that. They come in a quantity of 1 so if you need to see your blind spot on both side, you do need 2 mirrors.
