Video Transcript for CIPA Windshield Mount Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror Review

Zack: Hey everybody, Zack here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the CIPA Comp two rearview boat mirror. This is going to be a nice addition to your boat. If you are doing any kind of tubing or skiing and you're hauling somebody behind there, you've probably done this one right here. If you don't have a mirror, you're kind of going back and forth, and that's just not the safest way of going about it. Adding this mirror here allows you to be turned around all the way, seeing where you're going, but you also keep an eye on all of your tubers and skiers back there. The way that we mount this is on our windshield frame here.

We have it with just this clamp style, you can permanently mount this or you can temporary mount it how we have it here. It's going to work with three eights up to inch and a quarter frames on our windshield. It's going to work with rectangular and round frames. Whenever you need to make any adjustments you have the ability to do that, it's not just a fixed position, so you can just loosen that knob there and adjust it to fit your needs depending on how your windshield set up, then we'll get that tightened down. Then it has a ball and socket on the back to pivot this around, to give us a better view. You can see there's a little bit of movement in there, there's a little bit of play.

We're going to have some movement, but it's still going to give us a nice large mirror to allow us to see back there. This is going to be 11 by four inches. That is a really large mirror. We've got really good view back there. Now we're clearly in the shop, but we opened up the door and I can see a good portion of our parking lot back there.

Not only am I going to see my tubers or my skiers, but I'm also going to see if there's any boats behind us as well. It's constructed of a black ABS plastic, so it's going to hold up against some minor impacts. It's also going to do a good job holding up against rust and corrosion. Some of those screws in there, over a while if they we're exposed they may see some, but for the most part this is going to do a good job holding up. I think that if you left your boat out in the sun, you didn't have a covered dock, you may see some fading in that, but I think it's still going to do a bit job holding up for you.The overall design of this I think is nice. I like the size of it.

When it comes to putting this onto our windshield frame, it comes with a couple of different pieces here. If you have a different style, we just had the one that came to allow it to go over this rectangular frame, if you need to swap them out you can just pop those out and put these in. It's really easy to do. If you want to move it around and take it off it's pretty simple. Let's just walk you through how we put this one in place. To begin our installation we need to figure out where we want to mount this. I don't want to Mount it right here directly above my steering wheel there, so I'm going to set mine over to the side a little bit to get a better view. What we need to do is we need to take a 3/16th Allen Key, now this isn't included, and we're going to loosen this up right here so we can get this clamp loosened up to fit around that frame up there. We'll see if that will do it, I think we're going to have to go a little bit wider. We may even have to take it all the way off, because that's not the biggest bolt. We'll take this off. I'll get this held in place. Can just get this put in place there and get that started. This is definitely doable with just one person, but if it's kind of awkward to hold us all up there at the same time you can easily grab a friend to help you out. But we'll get that tightened up, and you don't need to tighten it down extremely tight because you don't want to damage anything, but you do want it to be snug. You don't want this moving around when you're out on the water. When it comes to the type of the fitting that you have, we use the one that had the little groove in it, just because it fit better around this frame there, but that's nice that it comes with a couple of different ones to help better accommodate your boat. Got that pretty tight, and see there's a little bit of movement in there, but I tested this out before and these just don't work out well for this one. Then we can just turn this knob here, loosen that up, get this set to wherever we need it to be. Get it set, get that tightened down and adjust this to get a better view behind our boat.Overall I think that when it comes to boating, safety is really important, and this is just going to be one more thing to make sure that you have a good, safe time on the water, so you can be looking forward and you don't have to be turning around and going back and forth the entire time while you're out. That's going to do it for our look at the CIPA Comp two boat mirror.

Jill and her dad (Don) installed our new mirror on the family built Phil Bolger design Gypsy row/sail boat, that the kids (and now grand kids) learned to sail and row in. Installation was a piece of cake, we used the small shims and simply slid the clamp on to the 1 inch wide bulkhead and tightened the Allen head screws. This convex mirror gives us a great view of what is ahead without twisting our bodies around to see where we are going when solo rowing. Thanks etrailer. The Bradley family.

The good: This extended mirror is pretty much what I was looking for to use on my bowrider boat. I don't have a tower so I needed a mirror that would clamp onto the window frame and have an extension that brings it a bit higher to see behind. The clamp is good but could be more secure with two bolts instead of one. Comes with an extra set of rubber molds for different shaped window frames. The mirror itself can tilt in all directions and the arm can be folded down when needed to throw the cover on. There are also no sharp edges to wear into the cover! Well done.

The bad: after installing the mirror, it couldn't help be noticed that there is quite a bit of play between the mirror and mount. Due to the cheap plastic extension arm, lightly tapping the mirror causes it to shake badly. Can't imagine it working very well on the water.

It's so close to being great but they really cheaped out on the plastic extension. It twists and looks weak at the knuckle where it meets the clamp.

This product has worked great for me. I have an outboard water, ski boat, and mounting this unit to the top of my windshield serves very well and being able to see the Skier in action. There is very little wobble when properly mounted. The view from the mirror is quite wide and generous.

by:

Great looking product. Fit perfectly with one of the two rubber pieces. Only draw back would have been if I didn't have a tool box with me. Requires two different Allen wrenches. Luckily I had what I needed at the lake. Seems to work great even at high speed. Just a little vibration.

by:

The original order for a mirror for our boat wasn't the correct size for our boat's windshield. No problem called and etrailer took care of it right away. Shipped a new one and a return label for the return. The product is well made and fits great! Seeing those who are skiing now is made simple and safe! They made it easy to order & return. Nice people too!

We like our mirror. We adjust it down to put the boat cover on every time we use our boat. It works great. It also has not cone loose or had to be retightened like other mirrors. We like it.

Still working great. We really like the mirror.

by:

Works well and adjust easily. I do wish it had a knob for installing it vs. needing to carry a hex key.

Good quality product used at Disney Animal Kingdom for safari trucks. Etrailer has

great service and communication to their customers, and I recommend them.

Also easy to use website and I use them often.

It is a great mirror, good view

by:

I bought this for my pontoon boat so I could check traffic coming up behind me. It has many mounting options so I chose to place it on the corner of the windshield so it would be in easy view. I’m very pleased with the size of the mirror as it offers a very wide view astern. It also folds down quickly enabling the existing covers to be used. Thanks for making such a great product!

by:

Works great!

by:

The mirror's easy application and versatility make it perfect for the boating activities we need it for. The convex design gives the driver more rear visibility, especially when the skiers, tubers, and wakeboarders are out of the wake. Very satisfied with the product.

by:

So excited to get my mirror today! It will take out all of those blind spots as I row my CLC Expedition Wherry. Thank you!!

by:

Well made, exceptionally clear full view mirror. Haven't had it long enough on my boat to evaluate, but it looks far superior to my old mirror.

by:

Like the quality of the mirror. Also the durable bracket that holds it to the windshield. Like the large View it gives you.

by:

Larger more substantial clamp to fit my windshield frame. Mirror does move around a bit while going fast, otherwise very good purchase.

by:

I only have one issue with the mirror and that it shakes while traveling. The fit was good and the installation was easy.

by:

I haven't used this yet, but it is just what I was looking for. Appears to be well-built. Only think that would have made it better, for me at least, would be a knob to tighten the windshield clamp rather than an allen set screw. I'll have to be removing this when I put the boat cover on.

by:

I have purchased from etrailer many times. They always go above and beyond with their
service and let you know the status of your order and when it ships.

we always hear complaints, but I always try to tell someone what a great job they do or how much I appreciate something they did. Most if not all the things I purchase from you are for Disney. I have had them as a good customer for over 30 years. Thank you for your online catalog and website that are easy to use.

by:

Worked well and has held up. I have had it for over a year. I like that you can fold the mirror when not using it for towing.

by:

Haven’t installed it yet but looks very nice!!!

by:

Really good product

Love my mirror, can see bank to bank on river, makes things a lot safer

  • Can Rearview Mirror CM11080 be Mounted so Mirror is Above Windshield on a Glastron GX 205 Boat
To be honest I had to look up the Glastron GX 205 because I didn't know what it was. Now I do and I want one! So now to explain that to the wife . . . . For the rearview mirror # CM11080 you can clamp it to the top of the windshield and it will stick up above the glass. Assuming you have it clamped securely and the positional arm knob is tight the wind will not blow it off. I have included a link to a video review of this mirror for you.

  • Recommended Windshield Mount Rearview Mirror for 17 Foot Boston Whaler Montauk
The Cipa # CM11050 Rearview Boat mirror uses a glass lens. The suction cup mount would work on the windshield of your boat, but I'd recommend something that uses a more secure mount like the CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11080 because I'm not convinced that a suction cup mount would be the best long-term solution for you. The mounting clamp is compatible with windshield frames from 3/8 - 1-1/4 inches thick, so it'll work with most windshields. This mirror also utilizes shatter...

  • Rearview Boat Mirror for 201 Four Winds Horizon 230
For your 2001 Four Winns Horizon 230 boat with the Taylor Made windshield with the rounded frame, I actually recommend the CIPA Comp II Rearview Boat Mirror # CM11080. This mirror fits windshield frames that are between 3/8" - 1-1/4" wide, which tends to accommodate the rounded frames a bit better than the # CM11070 which fits narrower 1/2" - 7/8" frames. The mirror face is slightly longer on # CM11080, measuring 11" long x 4" wide. I've attached a link to our Returns Policy in case...

  • Recommended Boat Rearview Mirror for Frameless Windshield
The clamp-on boat rearview mirrors we offer like the # CM11080 you'd looked at will all need a minimum windshield thickness of at least 3/8 of an inch in order to attach securely. If your boat windshield is thinner than that, a suction cup mirror like # CM11050 would be a better option, so that's what I'd recommend going with.

This convex mirror's face measures 4-inches high x 11-inches long for a wide-angle view to reduce blind spots.
