Hi there 5th Wheel owners. Today we're gonna be taking a look at Curt's replacement, 5th Wheel head for the Q20 model. You can get just the head for a, Q20 hitch, If you have something happen where maybe you had an accident or something on Curt we're damaged, your old 5th Wheel head, you don't need to get a whole entire system with your rails. And if you had a slide or your legs and all that are still fine, just damaged the head, maybe just the jaws or your mechanisms become damaged from some kind of incident, you can just replace this section here. You'll get this, it'll come with everything you need for the center section here comes for the most part, pretty much fully assembled, you just have to mount to your legs, and then drop it into your rails, after that, you can even have your rails already in, I mean, you already have your legs in your rails when you install it, that's how I did it with this one, just 'cause it was a little bit easier. This is an extremely heavy unit, so, it's not a bad idea to maybe have an extra set of hands when replacing this, getting the bolts in can be kind of a trick, depending on the legs that you're using.
The head does have the same adjustments and features as your previous Q20. You're gonna have three different height settings on each side, you'll have your locking mechanism here with the indicators for red and green, for whether you're in your tow position or not. The indicator here on the back it's all exactly the same as your factory, Q20. This is just a factory replacement of that middle section here. So that way you can get back up and running again if you ever have an issue.
You can see, we can pull the lever, it locks it out. You've got your red, your green, so you can see it's all exactly like the previous Q20 head that you've had before, our jaws spread apart. So if you're just in the need of getting this replaced after an issue, this is a available here at etrailer, and we do have other models from Curt, for the replacement head as well. If you had a different model and you need to get just this center section replaced. So here, we've got a replacement Q20, 5th Wheel head, we're gonna be setting it in between our rails here to get that mounted up shortly.
When attaching it to your rails, you are gonna have height adjustments here. You can choose between these, for like a low, medium or high setting to match up to your particular trailer. We're gonna be installing ours in the medium position today. There's four bolts that you'll use to secure your head to your leg assemblies. We've got a lot of different leg assemblies available here at etrailer.
You can get these as kits with the legs and the head if you need everything, or if you've already got existing legs and you just need the replacement head, you can get just this part here and just replace this piece out. So we're gonna be just doing this here and putting it in our slide rails there. So we can go ahead and set it into position on our slide rails here it attaches to the threaded holes here. There's two on each side, these bolts here come with the replacement heads, that way you'll get new bolts with that. You'll get a lock washer and a flat washer for each bolt. So we've gone ahead and prepared those 'cause this head's pretty heavy. So it's nice to have your bolts kind of set where you need them. So you can just easily reach those and grab them to thread them in. 'Cause this is a pretty darn heavy assembly. Take our assembly. We're gonna set it in place. We've already got our rails sitting inside of, our legs sitting inside the rails there. And so we just set this in between in here and now we'll just need you to lift it up, to get to the appropriate height adjustment that we're looking for and then slide our bolts through and get those attached. And it sometimes can be useful to have an extra set of hands for this step 'cause this thing is ridiculously heavy. You can do it by yourself, but you can definitely save some time with an extra set of hands. So if you're doing this by yourself, I'm gonna use a kind of a tilt method to do this. I've offset it a little bit towards the rear and then I can tilt it forward. And then that way, our hole here, for the position we're wanting, will line up with our attachment hole and then we can get our bolts started. This way you're not holding all the weight while trying to do this. There we go. So we got both our back ones started. Now we can just pivot it up to install the two front ones. You can see here how we're just rotating it on those back bolts. Get that bolt through there. And then just do the same thing over on the other side. And I'll take a 21 millimeter socket and tighten these down. It is important that you do have your feet been placed with your pins in when tightening this down, that's gonna ensure that you're gonna be able to lift your assembly in and out of here, so that way it's in the proper position. So you have the pins in, we didn't put the clips in all the way to hold it in, we just slid the pins through to make sure everything was lined up. So now we're gonna go back and torque our hardware to the specifications outlined in our instructions. This is a very difficult spot to get to. So you are likely gonna need a swivel to get in there to be able to do this. Typically you don't wanna use a swivel when torquing, but we don't really have another way to get in here to get to these bolts to do so. So we'll just need to do what we have to. Per Curt, you should go back and re-torque these bolts before every use. So we've got our head installed, at this point, you're ready to hook up and enjoy your new head. I would recommend lubricating the components here. You can get or grease lube plates here at etrailer to help minimize the mess. And that completes our look at Curt's replacement Q20. 5th Wheeler head..
